  1. Hmm, so we balance that against 2 relegations in 4 years. Hmm yeah... Nope, can't see you point yet. Charlton will do what they will do. It has little to do with Saints.
  2. Ideally, I'd like WGS to return [mind you, ideally, I'd like Sir Alex Ferguson ]. There was always a spring in the step of Gordon Strachan, and he's learned from his experience since his first excellent stint. I'd have absolutely no problem with Nigel Pearson either, as his attitude at Saints was absolutely superb, and now he's proven himself at Leicester City. But surely they are not going to let him go, despite any supposed problems he has with Milan. Like or loathe him, Mandaric is no idiot, and he knows by now how far he can push people and get the best out of them. Beyond Gordon and Nigel, we're into the alsorans, upcoming unproven newbies [shearer types], and forgotten heroes. Roy Keane anyone..?
  3. Dear oh dear peeps, these 4-wheeled metal thingies are only a means of getting from A to B, after all. Is it possible we might keep the bric-bats down please. Some of us are busy enough moderating the main forum. We usually come here for some light relief. PM each other if you want to tear chunks out.
  4. I don't usually as there is plenty enough news online. I don't want newspaper opinion or speculation, just the facts [ma'am], as I am quite able to make up my own mind without being led. Besides, relying on newspaper opinion to guide an opinion ends in lazy thinking. If I do want to read a newspaper especially, it is more likely to be The Guardian and/or The Observer. Perhaps once or twice a year only though, maybe less. My 94 year old Mum occasionally gets The Daily Express or even The Daily Mail bought for her by other relatives, as she isn't a silver surfer. If I've ever peeped between their pages for the odd comment, I've found the ultra right-wing bias quite disturbing.
  5. This thread isn't going anywhere. Nobody is particularly interested in the subject matter. Time to wrap it up.
  6. I don't hate anybody. As usual, on a forum, the extreme words are used far too easily. Yes, I know this is TMS, but ffs people, when are some of you going to get sense of proportion..? Hate, for example, is the opposite extreme to love. And love is when you get up in the morning and the first thing you think about is the person/thing you love. And every time you stop thinking about other things, you go back to thinking about that person or thing. Hate is exactly that too, but in the bad feeling way. So there's nobody I hate, but I dislike Robert Mugabe a lot, for what he is doing to Zimbabwe. He has terrorised his people; killed political opponents; made so-called political allies have accidents, or their relatives; and he has crippled his country, economically. A bad man, imo.
  7. Been going through my mini light reggae collection over the last few days, and my 3 or so UB40 albums have amazingly stood the test of time, IMO. Was remembering a couple of lovely holidays in Cornwall during my 20s* [early 1980's], and tracks like Food For Thought, King, Many Rivers To Cross and Cherry Oh Baby actually had me almost feeling those times like they were a touchable thing. I welled up a few times, it was that tangible. I think if I could have smelled an old canvas tent at the same time the whole scene would have been complete. *It should be remembered that, like loads of people, I spent many holidays in Cornwall, right from my youth. The two or three that I had during my early 20s were extra special. It's a special county, as the Cornish know very well.
  8. I'm very happy. However, I'm hoping to be even happier in a few seasons time.
  9. Tbf, it was done tongue-in-cheek, hence the winking smilie. I thought it was an effective, if entirely obvious joke to post. If the feckers are a little inclined to bite, do remember we've had a tough time of it for the last few seasons. Although we haven't had 40 odd years of it, give or take a season or two. Oops, there we go again.
  10. I honestly don't think Wotte was the right man from the job. But neither did I think Poortvliet was either. As a Saints fan I supported them, even though I believed we needed someone the order of Nigel Pearson or much better. MW was the last member of the old Lowe appointment era, and for that reason alone he was probably on borrowed time. Out with the old and in with the new, as the saying goes. And although he could possibly have stayed on in some capacity, it has been done - he's gone. There's no good way to being sacked, but a new owner has absolutely no responsibility to keep on people when he thinks Saints can do a lot better. Wotte has shown loyalty and for that he must be thanked. But Saints must move on, and upward.
  11. Yes indeed, well said. Good man. We need more players with that sense of responsibility.
  12. If true, then there is a similarity. Matty had a contract signed with his boyhood favourite club Spurs, which he pleaded to be released from because, when push came to shove, he found he could not leave Saints. Kelvin Davis may be doing it for other reasons, but fair play to him. Plenty of ex-players have said what a gorgeous area it is to live in. The New Forest and the southern region, that is, not necessarily Southampton itself. Quite a turnaround for a goalkeeper once so vilified by Saints fans.
  13. Tomorrow [now technically today] may be almost as good..!
  14. http://news.bbc.co.uk/sport1/hi/motorsport/formula_one/8141428.stm This is just so much ******. Honestly, I feel quite sorry for you Ponty, and for the teams who are making a success of this season. This ongoing row looks as if it is going to overshadow every good thing that has happened this season on the track, i.e. that it has been a refreshing change from the usual dreary suspects.
  15. Not the same mate. An ordinary oven can't get up to 900 degrees, which is the region a tandoor regularly operates at. They cook extremely quickly and lock in the juices. God, I'm getting hungry. I've a shoulder of pork, roast parsnips, onion and roast potatoes, in the oven as I write - with about 20 minutes to go. Then the meat has to rest. Bugger it. I've got to eat something soon. A few peanuts maybe.
  16. I've thought about buying a large chimnea, and manufacturing a metal plate door to go on the side. Instant tandoori oven..! Then again, I could just buy a proper tandoori oven. Tad more expensive, I suspect though.
  17. Thankfully, people haven't linked my videos this time. I get all the pleasure. http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=0StQKf5NRp4 http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=wbUUlrNG3jo Must get around to doing the rest sometime.
  18. Well said, hamster.
  19. Pretty damn high, possibly 7th. How ironic, as that number seems to have haunted Saints over the top flight years. How much is spent to make the most of Saints potential is another matter. Who's to say that the new owners won't make a quick killing in a few years time..? But then the Leibherrs could take Saints all the way back to the top. One never knows.
  20. Meridian have never been Southampton biased in their coverage of practically anything. It must have been very early in their plans to move their Central South based studios halfway between the major Hampshire cities. South Today has never seen to have been Southampton biased in their reporting, owing to the BBC's remit to cover the news of the region evenly. If there is sports news from every football club, their order of reporting is strictly league order based too. Hence, at some point in 2005, Pompey started to reported on before Saints. I'm surprised only a few people noticed.
  21. ...and not Stockport County.
  22. Happy Birthday to your Granny, with very best wishes from all at The Saints Web. There..! That's better than a letter from the Queen any day. I bet she receives one where Lizzie is wearing a yellow dress. It's always the same one apparently.
  23. Not the most interesting race for people just dipping into MotoGP. First up, we had the unfamiliar experience of Dani Pedrosa actually going very fast. Well he always used to before becoming extremely injured over the course of the last 12 months. And Honda seem to have at last found out what made their bike rather slower than normal, perhaps by listening to all the racers who rode the 2009 model, suggesting that the new frame was pants..! Next up was Nicky Hayden finishing 5th. OK big deal, but this guy was World Champion less than 3 years ago, and since then has hardly sniffed a podium, by being sidelined by Honda in his last season with them [the year immediately after winning his World Championship, can you believe..?] and then signing on to ride the bucking bronco that is the Ducati. Well it looks like Ducati have finally found a way of making it fast for Nicky as well as for Casey Stoner. James Toseland was penalised for a jumpstart. I saw a replay, and it looked mightily harsh. I'm sure I saw other bikes pull away every bit as punctually as he did. JT didn't see his come-into-the-pits-board for a speed limited run through, and so was eventually black flagged, which was a bloody shame as so many riders fell off or retired with issues [about 5], that he could have coasted around and scored a point. Even commentator Charlie Cox was up for a scoot round to collect a point, it was that easy to achieve. All this is digressing. For purists and fans there were plenty of moments to this race, but the upshot is... is that Valentino has increased his lead in the Championship because Pedrosa was nowhere on the overall leader board. Rossi came second; a badly limping from TWO qualifying crashes, Lorenzo was third, and he nearly stole second; and a still rather unwell Stoner, who had his own flight through the air during qualifying, was fourth. I have the absolute respect for their bravery. I sometimes wonder where they put their brains though. United States MotoGP result: 1. Dani Pedrosa (Spain) Honda 44 minutes 01.580 seconds 2. 24. Meant to post this video this morning. See if you can watch it break free. All I get is stop-start, and as there's no caching on BBC's player, that's as good as it gets. http://news.bbc.co.uk/sport1/hi/motorsport/motorbikes/8134787.stm
  25. This was the qualifier where everyone seemed to be falling off their bikes. Notably, Lorenzo high sided and winded himself when landing in the gravel. This after changing his bike from a previous fall. Casey Stoner also high sided which catapulted him into the air, but he didn't get up and was stretchered away. He did limp into his garage though. They're tough little cookies, as you'll have seen from their qualifying times. Our James Toseland also crashed during qualifying, but showed he is only human [like us] and could only manage 15th. Valentino stayed on his bike; and my goodness but, do I see Nicky Hayden in the top 10..? United States MotoGP qualifying result: 1. Jorge Lorenzo (Spain) Yamaha 1 minute 21.678 seconds 2. Valentino Rossi (Italy) Yamaha 1:21.845 3. Casey Stoner (Australia) Ducati 1:21.910 4. Dani Pedrosa (Spain) Honda 1:22.113 5. Andrea Dovizioso (Italy) Honda 1:22.135 6. Loris Capirossi (Italy) Suzuki 1:22.662 Race starts LIVE 10.00 until 11.00pm, so there's no need to waste the sun. BTW, the 125 and 250cc don't appear at Laguna Seca, but will be back for Sachsenring and the German MotoGP in two weeks time - always a cracker.
