  1. Hmm yes, I'm not sure I see it the way Parky does. He talks of a barely educated woman, who grew up in an under privilaged background, and possibly would have stayed there had it not been for Channel 4 and their Big Brother series. He cites that she was all that was paltry and purile in GB. Yet I notice that he doesn't hit out at the broadcasting company. That would be biting the hand that has fed you for so many years. So Channel 4 gets away scot free in his assessment, and Jade Goody is an easy target. Frankly, his statement, perhaps heavily edited, is a result of lazy thinking, or lazy journalism. Yet what Jade Goody was doing was nothing more than taking advantage of an opportunity put in her path, that she was undoubtedly equipped for. Because Channel 4 wanted to put a show out that was paltry and purile. That is the very essence of the Big Brother show. If Jade Goody is to blame for anything, it is that she never looked beyond the bounds of her own programming or social conditioning. Being brought up as she was, her conditioning hemmed her in to be an under-achiever. But even so, she broke out of those bounds, just for a little while. Maybe CH4 are to be congratulated for helping her to do so. Somehow, I don't think so though.
  2. I apologise in advance of what I'm about to say but, what piffling twaddle. And I say that in full recogniition that you and I feel that Saints should play fair, and take their punishment, if justified. And that last bit is where we differ. Let's leave it to the Football League and stop arguing the toss.
  3. In the second photo down he looks like a young Kevin Bacon. Well done Saeijs. I understand Wotte was having kittens upto that point.
  4. I'll keep it to one word: Hijacked.
  5. Drove upto Oxford today, and all the time between chatting to my passenger, I was humming No Language In Our Lungs - XTC. It's possibly one of the few of their tracks I've never really liked that much, but as soon as I got home I put on Black Sea, and it's great. I'll never skip that track again. Amazing..! It's only taken me 25+ years to like it. Also gave me an opportunity to turn the wick up on Smokeless Zone. Brilliant boppy track.
  6. Terrible interview. And I'm a little surprised at Jeff Randall, as he used to be a hard hitter for the BBC, although it's clear he's known Rupert for donkey's years in his financial journalistic capacity, as Rupert was one of the 1980/90's darlings of the city. But he doesn't open the pandora's box of under-ambition, the woefully poor appointments, and the complete lack of an eye for fan approval. Sadly, in the entertainment world, you have to make the eye-catching decisions, and Rupert hardly ever did. And it doesn't explain where all the missing millions went.
  7. I don't what all the fuss about deducting points is about. IF Saints have breached the FL rules, then points should be deducted, and no doubt will. If Saints haven't breached the FL rules, then points will probably not be deducted. There has been a set precident, and it is Derby County, who weren't deducted points when their parent company went in administration. Anyone wringing their hands over the moral rights and wrongs will not change a thing. Just wait to see what happens.
  8. Absolutely.
  9. I think you're missing the point Deano6 in your effort to make yours. It's perfectly logical to point out the lack of zeal in eroding the debt, seeing as capacity crowds were at St Marys. It's also perfectly logical to cite the lack of ambition after the 2003 FA Cup Final/Season. You can push on, or erode debt, or do a little bit of both, or neither. The fact was that every direction in which the board went during that time was half-hearted. Or maybe, some of that money, made by SFC, went to prop up SLH. Whatever happened, the board took their eyes off the main priority; that being, success on the pitch. It's what the whole club exists for. Of course, certain people wanted to diversify.
  10. To be fair to Russell Crowe, he's not half as bad an actor as some people make out, but then he's not as good as some others make out, either. All in my opinion, of course..! However, in the odd film, for example, Master & Commander, he seems like he was born to portray his character, Captain Jack Aubrey. In A Beautiful Mind, I don't think he is at his best, being quite Stanislavski and full of technique. But even so, he manages to make one aware of the dust particle in the eye near the end. Or perhaps I'm just being sentimental. Most of his best scenes are with Paul Bettany, and in M & C, the actor chemistry between them is superb, and the mainstay of a thoroughly great film. But not this one, IMO.
  11. Haven't seen the race yet, but a few things are sticking in my mind as I've read the news and watched a few highlights. 1. Bernie Ecclestone is an idiot for getting the race started when it did, Malaysian time, despite all advice. 2. The arguement about best driver or best car is clearly being demonstrated; no disrespect to Jenson Button, who has spent years of his F1 career in a hopelessly uncompetitive car. I bet he's enjoying this..! It just shows he's a perfectly good driver, even though many people said he was rubbish. 3. Once again Lewis Hamilton shows that he can bring an uncompetitve car into the points, hopefully without incident this time. 4. Ferrari seem to have problems. It reminds me of when their cars used to be referred to as moving chicanes. It's about time they didn't have it all their own way. 5. I bet the FIA are a bit worried about no.4, and are desperately thinking of ways to restore the status quo.
  12. It's really too much to think that Gavin Davis and the likes of David Frost have waited for 12+ years to invest in Saints. It would be excellent, but Davies has been wooed by Arsenal for loads of years now. It would be great though. He's still very respected, and carries a real body of rich, sport loving friends around him. And I'd hope he'd leave a little niche for Leon Crouch to spend a few quid so that he could provide a positive link out of the despair. See what happens when you take RL out of the equation..? Sadly, for better or worse, Michael Wilde has been tainted with that same brush, and one which I don't think he'll ever remove himself from. Never mind. Positive thoughts. BTW, Well done Davis and Euell, if true. Drop in the ocean, but excellent gesture all the same.
  13. Surveillance ..? I'm starting to feel a little bit stalked.
  14. Found my solution Pancake. As some nerd members might know, I'm in favour of 2 HDDs per PC, so I have a system disk and data disk. Hence, I just saved my e-mail pst's and favourites, and reinstalled WindowsXP SP2. Halfway through the install I remembered that I'm a signed on Windows 7 tester, which I haven't bothered with since about 24 hours after I first installed it, some months ago, and then ditched it. Looks like it is the perfect time for it again. Free modern OS, which I can truly bugger about with and my data is relatively safe. Win/win solution. Oh bugger, there's a pun lurking there, sorry. Should take me through to August, where I shall not take up Microsoft's option to buy, and fresh install WinXP SP2, and thence SP3 and beyond. That reads a tad Toy Storyish. The End. EDIT: Oh BTW, Mewsta... I did as you bid with high hopes, and it didn't make any difference, hence the reinstall/install. But cheers for the input.
  15. Really haven't read anything of note or length for ages. I still have The Ragged Trousered Philanthropists as an e-book on my PC, and I still haven't read it [sorry BTF]. The other day, I popped into the Romsey Rd OXFAM, a few doors away from where I was sorting out some surveillance cameras, and in the sporting region they had the book of an old BBC series called Island Race, which involved the exploits of John McCarthy [remember him..? He who was kidnapped in Beirut] and Sandi Toksvig [remember her], on board an old 1911 wooden Bristol Pilot Cutter. It cost me £1.99. I note that it will cost someone something like £50 to buy it new from Amazon, although about 50p used + postage. Mine is in cracking condition, being amazingly unthumbed. I'm beginning to get an idea why though, as 5 pages in, as part of my toilet/bathroom library [read while you s[h]it], it's not as diverting as one might imagine. Mind you, they haven't started going around dear ol' GB [it's a 3 month journey around Great Britain in 3 months on a slow sailer, hence Island Race, geddit..?] just yet, and I saw the series back in the early 1990's, so I'm expecting better things. Anyway... the jacket is really great, and it looks great beside the other books and periodicals in the library. Which is part of what a toilet library is all about.
  16. There's no bad feeling against Barclays a far as I'm concerned and know. In the article, the most important to stand out for me was that the Bank wanted the club to find a new owner. In that, both the bank and the fans are in complete agreement.
  17. That was exactly as I saw it. So the obvious thing to do was give Trulli's 3rd place back to him. But that would be seen as an error by the stewards, so McLaren had to be punished again. You couldn't make it up, and be believed.
  18. I've got my own problem now, and it's starting to p!ss me off a bit. The other day I was doing some surfing, and I found that on restart of IE7 [now IE8], it was no longer remembering my passwords anywhere. My webmail account has to be signed in every time, which means my iGoogle page is not there. I even have to sign into this website every time, and every where I go where previously there has been a password. The thing is, it doesn't matter if I ask Windows to remember every password and login, or tick a button which asks the website to remember me; every thing is forgotten once I restart the computer, or sometimes restart IE, or even if I've been away from a particular website for more than 20 minutes or so. Its peculiar to this PC as my other computers don't have any problems at all. I know theres an answer [just like The Beach Boys said], but I'm buggered if I can remember it. Anybody got any suggestions..?
  19. Yes, but that was completely out of date an hour later. As someone mentioned earlier, it was announced at 7pm that 24,000 had been sold, and I heard that too from the same source. At that rate, a full house should be fairly easily guaranteed. The fans are returning. They just needed the nudge in the right direction. Hopefully, as I have always said, the stadium will be too small.
  20. And he's honest enough to admit his mistakes too: More respect to the bloke: http://news.bbc.co.uk/sport1/hi/football/teams/s/southampton/7979976.stm
  21. Excellently explained. I've sent and received e-mails from several posters, and we all feel our club has returned to us, literally by having the poison removed. I'm feeling quite positive, and it's not the man that I despise, it's what he, and his cohorts did to the club that I hate [although Guy Askham could be a special case ]. And frankly, I couldn't continue supporting a club I hated seeing poisoned in that way. Almost anything else was preferable, including the club's death. But I do say, that was a personal feeling. I couldn't and wouldn't criticise anyone for thinking differently, as I know how important Saints are to people. You must let me be a follower in my own way, as I allow you yours. And BTW, just like benjii, I'm not too worried either.
  22. I'm only jesting Ponty, but after all the appeals for this team and that, I just find it quite amusing. Perhaps we'll finally see Schumacher stripped of his title when he took out Hill in Australia all those years ago. But perhaps we won't.
  23. I would debate the well publicised view. Well rumoured more like. This is a club where every single publicised word has been open to question because people simply haven't believed it. I heard a caller to Radio Hampshire tonight, and he said that the cancer has been removed, and we have our club back. And he's right. Weak and desperate it may be, but it's back, and there's still time to be positive.
  24. Don't worry. By the time of the cancelled race, no doubt Button and Barricello will have been disqualified from the last one.
  25. No. You need to think about it a bit more. Speaking personally, I don't want to have the club I have followed since 1966 touched by that bloke again. And if it means that when it dies, it stays dead because I have had some influence in stopping him from getting his hands on it, then so be it. Skate - that's be the f**king day. EDIT: I've half a mind to infract you for the insult.
