  1. I think your political petticoats are showing..!
  2. Please, don't apologise. We've been at this subject before. Err... [see above in bold] that's why there's such a hoo-ha about the whole thing. Actually, Steorn are not a marketing company. They are a technology development company, and have a history of making improvements in efficiency of technologies, motors etc... So when it all came out a couple of years ago, you forgot to read a few important points. In a nutshell, Steorn say they have a technology that bucks the laws of thermodynamics. Science says they don't. My bet is that if there is anything, it is that the technology is making use of properties that, so far, have been unadequately understood and developed. But are perfectly in keeping with the thermodynamic laws. As one eminent British scientist said to an American inventor when he tried to demonstrate a wireless connectivity [actually crude wireless waves] to the scientist... There is nothing new here. It is merely induction, Sir. Induction. Well he'd only missed spotting radio and all that is associated with it, by a mile. Several years later, Marconi did us all a favour. What I'm saying is, things are yet to be discovered. In fact, many, many things are yet to be discovered. BTW, any sensible person knows when to put their head above the fence and when not to.
  3. I liked it too. And perhaps those who think this [GB] is the only country where the economy is in trouble, should take a peek too. The U.S. congressman says quite clearly... our ecomony is in crisis... So guess what..? It's a global economy downturn..! Bit pointless blaming only UK Labour politicans then, as on the other political thread.
  4. I tought it quite funny.
  5. What make is your TV..? I recently fixed a TV which had a faulty on-off switch. The chassis had been an earlier design and the exterior had been a face-lift. This meant that the on-off button was now placed slightly off the old spot. So the manufacturer had devised a kinked switch, which failed. I Araldite'd the switch back together, and beefed it up in the process. It now works again, and the TV is fine. Don't overlook the simple things.
  6. Norwich Charlton Saints In that order. I'm pretty convinced SFC will finish bottom too. The others might dig themselves out of the crap - anything's possible..! Except the inevitable probability of a second relegation, for this club, in 5 seasons under the same chairman and hangers on. Useless..! Hang your heads in shame..! EDIT: If it wasn't so bloody appalling for us, I might have some sympathy spare for Norwich and Charlton. They're practically in the same boat. But as I say, they might save themselves. On form, we're as good as gone.
  7. Always thought he was a prat back in the eighties, but I was wrong. He's a bit of a legend. But not in the sense that he's a mythical tale and doesn't really exist.
  8. Very busy this weekend, so I'm going to leave this poll open for the duration. Please continue to vote.
  9. Hadn't actually twigged the day was friday the 13th until now.
  10. As I was reporting from testing within the last MotoGP season, it looks like the motorbike airbag is with us. They cost double the amount as for a set of standard leathers. IMO, that's not bad at all, and the price will almost certainly come down, making motorcycling safer for all Now if we can just get those idiot car drivers off the road, and leave us some room to motor, then it'll be 100% better. http://news.bbc.co.uk/newsbeat/hi/technology/newsid_7886000/7886974.stm
  11. The kids have absolutely no idea what they have got themselves into. Unlike a playstation game, they will find that the baby is still there when they flick the switch to off. I thought one of the comments below questioning whether the lad had even reached puberty yet, rather humourous. Err... I would think so..! The poster seems to be confusing puberty with adolescence.
  12. Must get to bed. Jeez, I'm up sooooo late. Work tomorrow too. Went back to the guitar. Trying to play the bloody F chord and gave up. Can't get my index finger to hold down two strings and play the rest of the chord. Went to the E-shaped Barre chord [F again] and it sounded out straight away. If you want to get on with some guitar exercises go here. Try the beginners course and see how you go: www.justinguitar.com This is the third time I've mentioned this guy, and it's beginning to seem like I'm getting a kickback for referrals, but I assure you I'm not. I just think it's brilliant that anyone can get free lessons over the net, and with bags of info thrown in too. When I get a bit further I'll make a donation. P.S. Envious about the Glenmorangie. Had a nice little brandy myself, which is rather new to me, as I've always disliked brandy. Palette's obviously changing.
  13. I've been practicing on my guitar before I came on here, and as such my fingers are moving over these keys like little whippersnappers. If you get my meaning.
  14. It's still a very long way off, and it's a big deal for scientists to accept. 99% of them will say, that's impossible and close their minds to it. Engineers will say, bugger that, there's something happening here; let me at it to improve it. But it's always scientists who hold sway. Nevertheless, I'm sure engineers like IKB broke the rules of his time, and proved that things beyond the then current comprehension were possible. But the laws of thermodynamics are about as fundamental as it gets, and breaking them is complete heresy. But it could be that scientists are missing vital clues and that the magnetic motor is working completely within the thermodynamic laws. As yet, nobody knows. It's could be the same kind of mistake that scientists were making when they thought the Sun orbited the Earth. The thing is, if the Sun had been orbiting the Earth, it would have looked pretty much the same as it does to us.
  15. Any particular sauce..? Or are you just all fingers and thumbs tonight, I mean, this morning.
  16. What, the Daily Politics during midday..? Your typing - I wasn't going to mention anything.
  17. Must admit, I thought it was a faux pas. The strength of freedom of speech is that occasionally you're going to offend people. But that's the power of real democracy.
  18. I thought mine was bad enough.
  19. Bollix..! Missed it. Really like Andrew Neil's humourous way of getting over the serious political news of the time, with Itchy & Scratchy at his right hand.
  20. Was that intended..?
  21. My guitar playing. I'm actually starting to make some strides with my chord changes. I'm doing the how many chord changes can I do in a minute exercise, for example, between C and G and back [counts as 1], and I'm up to nearly 30. Trouble is, I lose concentration if I attempt another go and I get ragged. But considering I only picked up the guitar again in the New Year [and this time I'm bloody well going to learn how to play], I think I'm doing OK. Tbh, discovering ol'Justin on the web has been the difference. www.justinguitar.com For those like me and maybe Saint Stevo [iIRC], this bloke's a bleeding godsend.
  22. I think AWT has suffered from a little drop in reputation since Gordon Ramsey turned his critical attention upon him; and his restaurants have, in turn, dropped away in popularity. He's just not flavour-of-the-month [sorry, couldn't resist] anymore. He either needs to reinvent himself as a chef, or do something different. I suspect he's no pauper.
  23. These are the important little gems you'll never hear from Top Gear. All they're interested in is, amongst other incredibly serious points... Does my bum look big in this..? Can I get the inside rear wheel to lift in this tight bend..? and lastly... Surely it's worth spending the extra £3,500 to get the sport pack which increases the acceleration to 60 by half a second [but reduces the overall fuel consumption by 5mpg, which they aren't interested in], and you get a chrome plated gear-knob too. Or perhaps that's just knob..? Oops sorry, went off topic. But I enjoyed it, and I like Top Gear anyway.
  24. Ah, of course... Mr Lovelock. Been wondering where the old chap has been. His GAIA - Earth in balance style theories were quite an eye opener many years ago. It certainly helped me see the processes involved. Now, I for one, would not ask anyone to take a simple newspaper article as gospel, even if it concentrates on a fairly respected individual. But it certainly saves me the bother of typing out something quite similar. And it's old ground as far as I'm concerned. The Earth will survive; we won't. Just depends on how soon we make the place uninhabitable for ourselves.
