Plenty of water in Southampton.

That's not James Taylor, it's just some soundalike.

Ooh dear. He got terribly professional, didn't he..? Someone needs to remind him that what he does is entertainment. It's not life or death.

This is a very good Three Roses cover. This bloke has got the America feel almost spot on. What is there not to like..? http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=EfI0ubZC3nI

I agree TG. Gordon Brown is a safer pair of hands in Downing St than anything on the Conservative benches. Whether he is electable is another matter.

Highland Scots don't give a monkey's. Last time I spent a New Year holiday in Scotland, when the snow was as high as anything I'd seen in years, in the UK, I drove back from a restaurant in Inverness to Cannich and spent the whole 37 odd miles with little or no steering. That's rather buttock clenching, with a car load of friends, on twisty roads and steep gradients. The Scots, I saw, took it all in their stride. Snow chains seemed essential, but neither they, nor I, had them.

Blair was the great communicator. He was the consumate politician. I you didn't like his policies, you had to admire his skill. Although he didn't like Parliament, he was brilliant during Prime Minister's Questions, where his communiction skills flourished. Rarely did the Opposition leader get one over on him. Look how many they went through before they came up with someone approaching anything like a candidate. And he was always ready with a self deprecating joke. It all worked, and only rarely was he out of his depth. Which is why they were such big moments, when he was. I always thought he went into Iraq in order to keep Bush in check. His was the only voice Bush would listen outside of his own country, and IMO, he paid the political price for supporting the U.S. to keep Presdient Idiot under control. I think that people in the Labour Party will come to rue the day they ushered in Blair's retirement.

LOL Watford have always been a bit of a bogey team for Saints, down through the years. Time for that to change.
-
Appreciate the effort people are making. It is hard to pick 5 outstanding players for each team. But one or two posters are selecting players who are already in the A and B team line-ups, and therefore can't be on the bench. Please check before you post. Cheers.

See what I mean..? Wait a while and he'll turn up with the answer. It's perfect Al De Man territory.

Time for me to bring this reminder, I suspect: www.giveittoron.co.uk

I also feel sorry for the younger ones. There's got to be some advantage in being older. Since 1966-67, I've been accused being a fair weather supporter, a glory hunter; latterly, a plastic fan, you name it. But for me, only one football club exists -SFC. So you can add blinkered to the accusations.

Been looking for this sort of thing, on and off, for ages. Usually I give up with it, and eventually, months later, Al De Man will come up with the answer. But this is great, Seatbelt.

I'm listening to myself playing the chords to Horse With No Name. It's so appallingly bad I should send an e-mail of apology to Dewey Bunnell. But I'm just getting enough into it to give me encouragement. Think I may have turned a mini-corner. Maybe Mr Sandercoe would be proud.

No flaming from me mate. Perhaps, like a lot of oher EC work, when it comes to the crunch, I'm not as keen as I might be. For example, the album Slowhand, which I had for a couple of years, before giving it away. I never thought it much cop, but other people love it. I was always left with the feeling that EC could have done better. Just as another example, on the album, his cover of recently departed John Martyn's excellent May You Never is appallingly poor. Don't get me wrong, EC's good. Just not that good,IMO. Cue my flaming.

TT, there is the interview Ron made with Jimmy Hill the day after that match, for The Big Match programme. It's almost as lengthy as the highlights you describe, and used to be available on Spanish Saints and Youtube. But it seems to have gone missing. I was wondering if anyone knows where that particular footbage is. If found, it's a significant contribution. BTW, both bits of archive footage were originally supplied by John Sydenham.

Send your £5 to me and I'll see it gets into the right hands, so that you become a member. Then we'll draw our own conclusions.

Have to say I've always thought Eric Clapton a bit overrated. Not for his technique, just his style and the use he made of his undoubted skill. His music never blew me away as Hendrix did. But he had his high years with Cream. Jack Bruce, I did rate highly and still do. Ginger Baker, I thought was good, mad drummer that The Muppets copied for their show. Anyway, Disraeli Gears is my favourite. I do love Dance The Night Away and Tales Of Brave Ulysses http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=lteb--nvuyo http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=WAViUGVYTVk

If you're referring to my mentioning an occasional highest spot of 7th at the end of a season, just look out how many times Saints reached 7th place from 1966-67 onwards in the top division. It was quite a few seasons, with different squads, at different times.

I was going to suggest something about going out sailing and doing some sort of end of [sailing] season celebration, probably at the Folly Inn or Osbourne View, come October-November next. But I see that I've been, in way or another, trumped..!

Tweak it yourself..! Perhaps posters will bump it every time they download to keep it afloat. Ta.

Oh well, here it is: http://uploading.com/files/NW3HG60M/Mary Corbett on Radio Hampshire.mp3.html Underneath all the Pay This, Pay That garbage, is a free download. You'll need patience for about 90 seconds, before you can download 3.52mb. Should only take a few seconds. Dial-up people [i thought of you few] shouldn't take the whole night/day either.

Bloody cheek. You should be thankful I had the foresight to record it. As it happens, I've been away having a life.

Now that's something I wasn't aware of. I have to say that Saints have not done themselves any favours as a club in being everybody's second club, like Newcastle Utd managed to do for a time. We were relatively popular during Lawrie McMenemy's, and perhaps Gordon Strachan's time, as their styles were great for promoting the club. Once again, it was the board who made the wrong decisions, and Lawrie left [please let's not trawl that old ground], and WGS did also, for different reasons. Errors do happen to clubs like Liverpool and ManU, but they recover quickly from them, and move on. Clubs like Saints stumble, and don't look forward sufficiently. Sometimes they make mistake upon mistake. It's no surprise that money makes the options much easier and more varied.

Actually Ponty, you're miles off, but not a million miles. I did listen to Phil Collins' original solo album, and thought it very disappointing. Though it didn't send me into a coma, or anything like it. I just took the record off, never to place that particular piece of vinyl back on the turntable. I'm a Peter Gabriel devotee, from the Genesis crowd, me. And now I'm off to watch QI for half an hour.
