Exactly..! But it's democracy mate...

More VHS rummaging has found Auf Weidersehen Pet. Not the original series being repeated at the moment, but that was the spark to have a look through the tapes. This is the one from 2002. [crikey, that long ago..?] I used to get into setting the video a fair bit when I went sailing some years back. Don't bother now as the TV is generally so crap. Anyway, it's where the lads dismantled the Transporter Bridge in Middlesbrough, and caused a load of far-from-home Teesiders to phone back to check on the Bridge, because the CGI was pretty good; certainly for the time. Just watched the first and second episodes, and it's better than the original series IMO, and tonnes better drama than anything on at the moment.

That current advert featuring The Wicked Witch Of the West is reasonably good. Thankfully, the character is so good, I can't remember what the advert is for. I hate it when an advertisment manages to get its message across.

FWIW, I entirely agree with you. But it's too much to ask for complete accord amongst a diverse age range of fans. On the main website we'll be having some player profiles and memories of those picked, and the near misses too. So hopefully, by the end of Saints Greatest XI, players like Phil Boyer, David Peach, Martin Chivers, etc... maybe even completely overlooked stars like Charlie George and Ted MacDougall, won't be just a myth to the younger supporters, as they wonder what the hell the older ones amongst us are going on about. :smt115

Not sure I could do a top 50 either. 5 minutes after I'd settled on a top 50, another band would pop into my head and I'd be sent into a quandary again. It's all mood dependent anyway.

You're right. It was a total faux pas on my part to forget to ask for the posters choice of Captains fro teams A and B. So, I thought the thread could do a useful role, and so asked for the parameters to be changed [further up the thread]. By and large, people have chosen as if their choices were from the 2 teams anyway.
-
And hopefully the 2 captains chosen might be from the 2 teams we've just voted for. I thought it might be too obvious to bother mentioning.

Saints fans are in a horrible losing situation. To have a 1st team coach turn on the fans, and suggest those who don't get behind the club 100% are not true fans or believers, is incredible. There are only a few relative constants in football, and clubs and fans are 2 of them, and even they change over time. Staff, players, directors come and go frequently, and only demonstrate loyalty when it is beneficial to them. Only fans will go on supporting when it would be better for them to go and do something more interesting instead. Wotte doesn't get it. Under no circumstances do the majority of Saints fans want his Chairman and Directors in place. They don't want this experiment to continue. I believe many of them would even take relegation and adminstration, if it guaranteed an end to the present Board having any ties with Southampton FC. That's how fanatical they are.
-
It may be special circumstances, but I think we can overlook this. I'd also like to think that people who are not celebrities, or not in the public gaze, would be treated similarly, but of course we'd be unlikely to hear of such special treatment, if it occurred. Being able to make special allowances under tragic circumstances is what makes the difference between decent people and stiff unfeeling jobworths. NB: Just been reading an article about Jade Goody, and it reminded me that CH4 notified her of her grave illness over broadcast TV. There was no real huge fuss made over this [ok, they were haulled over the coals a wee bit], and to me they've somehow managed to slip out of any moral responsibility there.
-
I find that article quite staggering. Wotte has been here 5 minutes, and he has absolutely no idea of the culture of Saints fans, or the recent history that has made us so disenchanted with the club. He doesn't realise that season after season we have to put up with mediocrity, and don't even make a decent fist of performing in any league we're currently in. I suppose he would also suggest that people who stand up in AGM's and call on members of the Board to resign because they are killing the club, are not fans and believers. We are all fans and believers in Southampton Football Club. We just don't believe in this particular shower. Or isn't that allowed..? If he wants to turn away the remainder of the fans then he's just done the very best thing.

In C], if you mean once the execs had gone and Leon made all the decisions, then a most deifinite YES. But if you include him as Chairman while the execs were at SFC, pushing him out, then it's more like NO/YES.

Oops missed that.

Made the mistake of flicking through some channels before going to bed. Red Dwarf on DAVE. Haven't seen this particular episode [Polymorph] in donkey's years. Picking my sides off the floor as I type. Brilliant..!

Doesn't mean to say my eyes are not perfectly ok for driving though does it..? I mean, I need reading glasses, but I see perfectly well over 10ft away. Come on Jillyanne. Think before you leap to find fault.

Don't I know it. Some of the most clueless mongs I met were at University. Nobody seemed to have an all round grasp. However, what they were good at, they were pretty clued-up about. And as for my grasp of science, and the particular area of environmental systems and chemistry, I don't think I've mentioned anything like enough of the subject for you to make a judgement.

Where's that young fellow MB gone..? Did I ban him or something..?
-
How old is this VW Golf anyway..? What are we talking about here. Something from a couple of years ago, or something from the late 80's..? The other thing is Saints Stevo, would you consider you drive a car hard, or are you gentle..?

Just the sort of question that was raised in conversation the other day. If relegation is narrowly avoided, I can see bunting in the streets; a cause for City celebration. Yet realistically, whoever put Saints back another season should clean out his/her/their desk, never to set foot in the club again. They should never get the chance to put the club in so much danger again. Last season was a mistake, caused by initial over-confidence and then a poor/demotivated manager, continuning boardroom instability, ongoing financial screw-ups, etc.. The season kind of ground it's way to inevitable error, before someone took charge of it and appointed Nigel Pearson. He wasn't the biggest success, but he did the necessary. He kept Saints in the Championship when the form was going downhill like an Olympic Champion skier. But more importantly, 95% of Saints fans loved him, and had confidence in him for the next season. This season has been a precise decision to change the way the club operates. Someone had done the methodical research [that's a laugh] and decided that the reserves/academy, and a few select buy-ins and loans were good enough to progress through this league, with a new untried [in this league] playing system. Seemed very interesting, radical and worthy of support, but then you got the realism, and realised there was no fall back position. What is one supposed to say at this point - the rest was history..? Well it's been a shambles so far. The rest will be history - come mid-May.

One day we'll debate about the how good your eyes actually have to be to drive. This is an HDTV thread. But thanks for the dig anyway. Daisy, Daisy.

Ah, sorry about that..!

Oh well. I've never been here to change people's minds. I know what I know and that's fine by me. I didn't want to bring up the value of education in the first place, but descriptions such as layman, kind of force the issue. And I didn't expect that to be debated either. What's the point..? If you don't understand the rules, you have to accept someone's opinion in the end. My education gave me the ability to interpret the raw data, and to understand the implications. I'm no enthusiast about this, and I've forgotten most of what I learned. But like a driver forgets the process of driving, yet drives pretty well, I know what to look out for. Believe me, I'll be the very first to report if there's a change for the optimistic though. Bloody hell, I wish the doubters were/are 100% right. But at the very least - what if they're wrong..? Perhaps debate is all about polarisation of opinions, rather than opinions exchanged and thought upon. It often seems that way on this subject because it impinges so much on people's lives.
-
I've been doing a little research of late on a few Saints players. I just have to include this one. He may not have been a Saint when this was done, but we get the message loud and clear: If only we had a manager like Cloughie in his prime too.
-
Have to say that I was underimpressed by HDTV in a short demo. But this might be due to a few things. 1] My eyes are shot to f***, and I can't be bothered to wear glasses. 2] I'm actually quite satisfied by the present broadcast standard of TV. 3] I don't watch TV that often anyway, because if I do, I start to fidget, knowing full well I should be doing something constructive rather than slothing my life away on a sofa. Hey, why not wait for 3DTV anyway. It's only just around the corner. Then you can leapfrog spending average amounts on HDTV and spend huge amounts more on 3DTV.
-
See what I mean..? How can anyone have a reasoned debate with this kind of poster..? Which is why I don't bother on this subject. Once again, I wish I hadn't become bored enough to stop at this thread. I'll try to keep myself occupied elsewhere.

Hardly a layman, Stanley, I'm actually a B.Sc. in Environmental Science, though I don't work in the field anymore. Which kind of says.. this bloke might have a clue what he's on about. I don't normally care for titles, but as you brought it up...
