The US will save nearly 400 billion on oil imports this year;
St Landrew replied to Window Cleaner's topic in The Lounge
If you look closely, the message you're referring your comments about was posted several weeks ago. So there's nothing to be learned there. As it happens, the Shell garage in Winchester Road is selling Premium Unleaded at 84.9p a litre earlier today. EDIT: Btw, do remember that the USA extract their own oil, so what is good for them also hurts them. -
Saints Greatest XI - Best Centre Midfielders Poll

Can't argue too much with your first paragraph. However, I think I can take issue with your second. MLT was never a full blown forward in his Saints days. Whether he played in that position for Vale Recreation [his club in Guernsey] is another matter. Matty is officially recognised as the first, and I think still, only midfielder to have scored 100 goals in the Premiership, although players like Frank Lampard and Steven Gerrard are on the brink of joining him. However, the important fact is that MLT was a midfielder, whether he scored a lot of goals or not. Kevin Keegan was indeed a forward, although in many games for Saints, especially during away matches, he played very deep; practically an attacking midfielder, and fed Steve Moran. They made an extremely effective partnership, as a certain Alan Hanson will tell you from personal experience. In recent years, Marian Pahars has sometimes played as similar role for Saints. -

Oh, I see. So you can't make a judgement on anyone you haven't had any personal experience of..? So the jury's out on Adolf Hitler..! And I'm supposed to be the one taking this seriously..? Look, all joking aside, if you have no personal experience, why not look at the careers of the players concerned as a guide, and how successful Saints were during their involvement..? There are only 5 others, so it won't take long. I'm sure you'll come to a reasoned result in the end. If anything, you'll know a lot more about the other 5 players than you did before you started. And if anyone else has voted for only one player because of that same reason; try the same tactic I've outlined above. -
Saints Greatest XI - Best Centre Midfielders Poll
St Landrew replied to St Landrew's topic in Golden Posts
It's Wednesday, and there's voting up to very early Saturday morning, 2.33am to be exact. As of this moment, of the 106 people who have voted, 22 of them have cast single votes. That's a fifth of all voters..! This means there are 22 votes as yet undecided. If the vote is within 22 of any of the candidates making a team or failing, I will ask these 22 if they care to cast their remaining vote. I know who they are - it's dead easy to find out. But it's a damn sight easier to READ THE INSTRUCTIONS FIRST. I mean, how blind do you have to be not to realise that we want you to choose 2 players on this vote..? -
Agreed also. Where that leaves the club, is with a handful of core fans who can tolerate the actions of Lowe, Wilde, and other Board members who just stand by. I can honestly say that I wouldn't be amongst them. Empty promises, assets stripped and limping along from season to season just looking back at better days, is not the club I grew up supporting.

I think you've been paying too much attention to, what is half as much a media led downturn, as a real one. They speak doom, gloom and disaster, and all it does is erode confidence in the global economy. It's a self fulfilling prophecy. If they weren't so vehement in telling us we're all doomed to a recession, we actually might not be. But ask them not to keep on overstating the case, and that is definitely NOT news.

I understand that Richard Chorley was removed from the AGM, after running to the top table and throwing coins at the representatives there. I may not always, or even often, agree with RC, but I can't doubt the bloke's passion is for his football club. He's certainly a fan who puts his money where his mouth is, whether it may be misguided or not.

Never mind. So were Carlton Palmer and Terry Hurlock [iMO]. But I have noticed some clever tactical voting.... .... you lot are saving David Armstrong for LM, aren't ya..? I've under-estimated you. Him and John Sydenham, Tom Jenkins, .... blah, blah... BTW, if you think you're saving KK for one of the two strikers, you'll be meeting with a fair bit of opposition. -

Just in case nobody has noticed, but tomorrow is officially [in my online almanac] 1 minute longer than today. Here comes the Sun, did um doo doo..! http://uk.youtube.com/watch?v=sUS49XSN6Zs -
Why not just assume that it's a shirt and tie affair, then you can't really go wrong.

Well that's true, at least.

Hey... don't get too smug. Your longest day has just come and gone..! -
Well I'm very sorry to hear of your cat's death Jillyanne. Come on Peeps, there's no need to take the mickey out of people's genuine unhappiness. Throw the cynicism out for just a few days, eh..?

Yeah, it shook me too..! -
Remember that it isn't that much of a windfall though. It's the equivalent of a 14,000-15,000 crowd, although everybody is paying anew for every seat, I suppose, so that's an extra to the bonus of a FA Cup capacity crowd. The rest of the income goes to Man U and the FA.

VOTE FOR TWO PLAYERS PLEASE** Thanks for the nominations. To avoid confusion over the choices I've posted all the players nominated. The Poll software allows an absolute maximum of 10 players. But, if the field of players exceeds that total, then I need some measurement to weed the numbers down. Here are the results of the nominations. Steve Williams [10] Matt Le Tissier [18] Alan Ball [16] David Armstrong [7] Kevin Keegan [2] Jimmy Case [7] Matt Oakley, Anders Svensson, Jim McCalliog, Barry Venison, Ronnie Ekelund, Chris Marsden, Glenn Co ckerill got 1 nomination each. Obviously, this takes us over the limit of 10 players, and there is no mechanism for weeding out the players with one nomination each. Someone who earlier accused me of taking all this too seriously, put in 2 joke nominations for Rory Delap and Jermaine Wright. If I was taking this really seriously, I'd infract the poster for making an obvious sarcastic comment and not acting in the spirit of the thread. As I'm not, I just ignored the nominations. OK, I'll say RD and JW got a nomination. It makes no difference, as we have a measurement to pare down the list. Those players that received more than one nomination have proceeded to the final vote. As before, you are voting on player quality in the CM position. No legend status thanks, despite the obvious legends in the final list. VOTE FOR TWO PLAYERS of your choice. Once again this will be a public vote. **Sorry, accidentally saw the result of the first voter. It was a single vote. I give up. PEOPLE JUST DON'T F**KING READ it seems.

Saints Greatest XI - Nominations For Best CMs.
St Landrew replied to St Landrew's topic in Golden Posts
And that's it posters. If you're still up at 2 am, just give me a few minutes to count up the nominations for the leading players to go into the final vote. Thanks for nominating, and get voting.. well, once I've started the new thread, that is. Cheers. -
I honestly think the institutions need a rethink on wastage. I also know first hand of the wastage levels they incur. As an example, I once lived in the same house as a Whitehall department secretary in charge of IT equipment spending within Whitehall. This was in the mid-1990's and she had a laptop with the highest specification I had ever seen, at the time. According to her, every year, whether it was required or not, the office IT hardware in Whitehall was changed completely, and Whitehall IT equipment was always the highest spec, and so was always highest priced. The changeover required immense expenditure for very little gain. Imagine all the data that had to be transferred. All of the existing, perfectly capable hi-spec old equipment was put into a skip, sent off to the yard and smashed in the crusher. This was said to be cheaper than removing the HDDs and sending them to the crusher. Now you can see the point, but it's still a massive unnecessary waste. Just changing the hardware every two years would have brought huge financial benefits, and very few problems. Unfortunately, that wastage mindset was complete through governmental and public institutions and authorities, at the time. There was simply no framework for making the most of what they had. If they tried to run a company like they were, they'd be out of business within a very short time.

Wonderful to see a packed St Mary's. 31697 in attendance. That's basically a full house, considering people who had [season] tickets and didn't/couldn't use them; plus the divide between the home/away supporters at the Northam end. Have a read: http://www.4thegame.com/matchcentre/premiership/reports/143642/sfcpfc.html

I'd appreciate it if Hughie... and 1976Child might keep their disagreements to the subject matter, and not bandy insults about. Please keep your comments to the subject of the thread. Thanks.

Did anyone understand what JP was saying after the match??
St Landrew replied to Tamesaint's topic in The Saints
I don't think there is a sense of apathy for any of them. I think there are three separate emotions regarding the three shareholders. There is definite loathing of Lowe. I've never known a board member to be so disliked. In Wilde there is betrayal, and even possibly complete bemusement. Why has a man who holds so much sway in SFC sat on his hands and done nothing..? It's as if his large shareholding has actually left him powerless. In Crouch there is a sense that he doesn't know what he is doing, despite his good intentions. -
SFC will never do a Leeds... Oh really..? Give it time..! If you spend more money than you can afford, you end up having the team being picked by the bank manager... Oh really..? Given enough time, it seems..! No, actually we haven't done a Leeds yet. We haven't had the fun they had.
