I sincerely hope we make MoPo's interpreter the most expensive linguist transfer between two english clubs. £5M? Edit: or we threaten to keep him at Saints in case we get a Scottish manager...

This season just gets better and better. In front of 27.000+ fans - 12.000 from Aalborg - AaB won the cup with a resounding 4-2 victory over FCK in the national arena. AaB fell behind, but dug deep and dragged themselves ahead before the break. In the second half they kept their structure and scored two great goals before FCK pulled back a late consolation goal. What a party. The first double for AaB since the cup was introduced in 1955 and with a team of youngsters. [video=youtube_share;eigDyugDiKQ] Saints have three players at the WC so I will cheer for England. No matter how they fare, my season of football will be almost impossible to top. Wow...

Thanks for the comments. Tomorrow we have a chance to record our first ever double in Danish football when we take on FC Copenhagen in the cup final. AaB have lost the last 7 cup finals they have appeared in since winning the cup in '66 and '70, so expectations are low. But all in all it certainly has been a great season!

Just want to share a little football story. Since 1995, my local team, Aalborg BK, has been just about the only one to really challenge FC Copenhagen and Brøndby's dominance in the league with championships in '95, '99, and '08. The last few seasons have been an economical and sporting disaster with last day survival, administration scare, selling of profiles etc. This season, the star striker, Helenius, was sold to Aston Villa, and in January the star defender was sold to Nijmegen in Holland. Kids were brought in from the academy to plug the holes and try to stave off relegation. After 18 of 33 rounds (long winter break) the team was surprisingly 2nd in the league, 4 points after the leaders FCM. The kids were delivering entertaining football and scoring lots of goals! After the winter break, the team amazingly won against FCK, Brøndby and twice against FCM meaning that after 25 rounds they were suddenly 1st! After a wobbly finish from all the top teams, AaB went into the 32nd round 3 points ahead of FCM but with inferior goal difference. A drab 0-0 was played out against a newly promoted team with a tiny stadium, meaning that the focus was on FCM's match; would they gain 2 points on AaB before the last round? Home against FCK they went ahead 1-0 but then fell behind 2-1 (a goal from Cardiff FLOP Cornelius! ). AaB on course to take gold. Then FCM found an equaliser and after 75 minutes disaster struck: Margreitter (on loan from Wolves) gave away a penalty and was sent off. A chance for FCM to grab a vital win. However the penalty was missed and a draw seemed to be on the cards. This would leave FCM 3 points behind on the final day but with superior goal difference. While FCM were looking to snatch all three points in extra time, a disappointed AaB player was involved in a post-match interview that got... interesting: In spite of the Danish gibberish you probably guessed it: 10 man FCK scored deep into stoppage time sending the championship to Aalborg. The AaB players only learned about it when they heard it from the fans. Party time! Next Sunday I really look forward to the game against already relegated rivals Aarhus GF - should be one huge party at the stadium :D (combined with Saints' results and development it's been one heck of a footy season for me!)

Thank you. That's the nicest compliment I have ever had on this board I was watching the video as the Saints Media pushed it on FB on the 28th of April and I had time to watch it today. Everything is just right with that video - really put me in a good mood rewatching it for the umpteenth time... when I was watching the post-match celebration, her face suddenly caught my eye. Though I'd concede that it is difficult to confirm that it is indeed Katharina from that footage...
-
Ok, I just thought I spotted her at 23:10 in this video: Light brown coat on the right side behind the players? Probably not her, but I do like to play the detective...
-
Was Katharina at the Coventry game where we got promoted to the PL?

The Guardian predict 14th place finish for Saints
Lazlo78 replied to Toon Saint's topic in The Saints
And so it came to be ... I couldn't find the "where will we finish this season" poll (if there is one), so this thread will have to do until someone digs out the right one... -
"My tweet which first broke the news of the judge approving the resolution, received 547 retweets and was favourited 145 times. Meanwhile, the Sky reporter dashed out of the room – ‘Sky Sports sources understand’ crowed the yellow ticker moments later. The source was, of course, the judge." Neil, my man, I'd advice you to stay well clear of the exclusivity ****ing contest - you come out 2nd or worse most of the time. Why do you think we call you #Factless? Also, according to modern Danish slang the first paragraph could be categorised as "Pineapple in it's own juice". I'm sure that no further explanation is needed for that saying...

Pochettino berates "dumb refereeing" in post-match press conference
Lazlo78 replied to Saint-Armstrong's topic in The Saints
Ideally, I would prefer the manager to keep his cool and stay classy. But using some of the successful managers as examples (Fergie, Wenger, Mourinho etc.) you could argue that Pochettino is right to vent his anger in order to divert attention away from his team's 4-1 defeat and towards the ref's mistake. It can make him look like a whiner, but I'm quite sure it will help ease pressure off the players - and that's why I applaud his decision to divert attention away from the team. -
This is a great intro for any kind of posting - it really got my attention! (fwiw I agree with the content, just as I admire the style)...

Agree. Quite annoying that the Gazza discussion seems to have overshadowed that the team has battled quite valiantly and kept their heads cool in a difficult game. Result in no way reflects what went on in the game and it should be seen as an indication of our bright future. Loads of fringe players coming in and doing a job for the team, tactical concept works against City as we kept possession and were positive with the ball. With Niemuc in goal (a Boruc/Niemi cloning) and Ramirez to take over from JRod we could have caused them some trouble today...
-
I think he shouldn't have left his line when Wanyama and (City player?) were able to reach it. Image if the City player had headed it into an empty net? (actually, that wouldn't have changed a thing on here as his stock apparently can't fall any lower) For the record, I think the 3rd goal was more down to Kolarov's excellent delivery than Gazza's mistake - the ball was delivered with such pace that Gazza was forced into rushed action.. 4th goal looked a bit more suspect as there was more time to think and consider his options....
-
Very bad from Gazza from the corner where he punched the air. Excellent save from Toure's shot though - real quality!
-
Bic Vic coming on for Cork. Cork has been really good today IMHO under difficult circumstances...
-
Gallagher on. We've got more teenage boys in our team than a medium sized disco will have at a Miss Wet T-Shirt competition...
-
Ohhhhhh Lambert so close after excellent, patient build-up. They're still going for it - COYS!!!
-
Fonte baby. Makes up for that pen!

This Saints team is excellent to watch. 3-1 down away to a top side, a bit of luck against us, and a few important players missing, yet still they stick to the game plan and play some damn fine football. Cork, Davis, Ward-Prowse; excellent fringe players for us, really doing a good job today. Forwards still plugging away to get a second goal. COYS! Edit: I really mean it; COYS!!!

Not even a close call with the offside. Huge mistake from the assistant ref
