  1. I like the slight irony of atheists slavishly following other atheists in order to provide themselves with validation, or to prove to others, their "beliefs". Or more correctly, non belief, of course.
  2. Osvaldo wasn't trying to fight his teammate, he just appeared to have a verbal pop at him. The player deserved it too, as Osvaldo would have been in on goal with the obvious pass, as can be seen from that clip. He's still a liability for us though, but this incident is nowhere near as bad as it's made out.
  3. There have been some classic UK sitcoms over the years (Only Fools and Horses, Fawlty Towers, Red Dwarf, League of Gentlemen, etc), although i agree that recently, good ones are thin on the ground. I was interested to see your note on Shappi Khorsandi as she is at the Nuffield this spring and i was thinking about getting some tickets. Might not bother now! Other female comedians or comedy actors that deserve a shout are the brilliant Victoria Wood, Julia Davies (superb in whatever she does) and the wonderful Julia Louis-Dreyfus (Veep is very, very good stuff). As an aside, W1A starts tonight and is written by John Morton who was my old tutor at 6th form. He also wrote Twenty Twelve and People Like Us and I guess anyone who was at Peter Symonds around the 80's and 90's will probably remember him.
  4. IMHO Jack Dee is very good, especially as a host of TV and radio. And his live shows are excellent too. I went to see Billy Connolly live and thought he was very good. He knows how to work an audience. If someone was to script his stage show, then it would appear mostly like garbled rubbish, but he knows how to play the show, which made his shows very enjoyable, IMHO of course. One of the most unlikely, but nonetheless very funny comedians I have seen live is Mark Little (aka Joe Mangle!) who was really clever, funny and well thought out show, without any reliance on swearing and knob/t!ts/vag gags.
  5. I watched a couple of programmes over Christmas that I had missed when first on. One was a life story of the terrific Dave Allen and the other a look back at wonderful Rik Mayall and his work. The programmes reminded me just how excellent, clever and risque both were. Unfortunately, someone then showed me a recorded programme of 8 out of 10 cats and I was reminded of how shyte modern "comedy" programmes are.

    Mane

He wasn't terrible. He had a couple of off games like most players have, but he seemed to attract far more flak than was fair or warranted. He'd still be getting it too if he hadn't performed brilliantly over Christmas.

    Mane

Bloody hell, this thread has gone as quiet as Pompey job centre. Pleased for Mane proving the knee jerkers wrong. They'll be quiet for now but I am confident they will pipe up at the first opportunity to remind us that Mane is a complete bag of sh!t. Better sign another scapegoat RK.
  8. Did you have that in mind when you thought of your username and started posting horsesh!t of the forum?
  9. I did the London to Paris about 6 years ago for Action Medical Research. An excellent event, very well organised and a decent challenge too. We arrived in Paris on the Saturday before the Tour finished on the Sunday (so got to see that too) and the roundabout around the Arc de Triomphe and Champs Elysees were closed for us to cycle around and down. I almost went a gutser trying to take a selfie or two whilst riding! The route we went was via Dover, Abbeville, Beauvais and into Paris, which is a little different to your route, but I would have to agree with Tim's point (although I wouldn't make it in such a harsh way) that there is an element of payment for the "trip" which should be taken out of your own pocket before sponsorship can begin. We coughed up about 650 quid from our own pockets to start the sponsorship off. That paid for the accommodation, ferries, etc with the rest raised being "proper" sponsorship from others for the charity. Good luck though, you should enjoy it.
  10. Had a very good game today and i think he played midfield in the WC for Japan, so very handy to have in the squad. Never seems to moan about being left out and is reliable and has a good eye for the occasional pass down the channels.

    Mane

I agree with this to some extent, although Danny Fox was the recent example to break that mould. I think Mane has got decent potential, but is obviously trying to adapt to a different style of play that is somewhat at odds with his natural instincts. A bit of time and patience is required, all IMHO of course. The intelligencia booing him or getting on his back from the first 5 minutes isn't going to get any results with the lad. And you are right about Tadic, who for me is in real danger of turning into Skacel MkII. I hope Mane gets encouragement tomorrow, but i suspect he'll get a load of unwarranted grief from the first minute.

    Fitness

IMHO the last few games have seen teams press us much more than in the early part of the season. The DM's and the CB's have got a lot less time on the ball than in previous games - Citeh and Utd had 3 over us whenever we tried to build something, making it more difficult as there were less options in passing from the back. That way the full backs sat back more to offer an option, making it made it more difficult to get as many numbers on the attack as we did against teams earlier in the season. I don't think the fitness is a particular issue, but i would agree that we have a touch less stamina than last season.

    Didn't i tell ya? The phone in the limo is busted and i can't get in contact with ma b i t c h e s!
  14. I'll second that, Verbal. In depth knowledge on situations like this is hard to come by. Thanks for sharing.
  15. What a load of old gash. Worryingly inept up front and what is it with this gentlemans excuse me, you first, no please after you, poncing around the box bollix? Trying to pass it in the net is crap and needs to be mixed up with something far more direct. Suspensions will not help for Saturday either. Unfortunately I can see us getting turned over big style against Everton.
  16. Maybe not the best, but I love this from the late, great Johnny Winter with his version of the Freddie King song See See Baby. Freddie King was a legend too, of course and if anyone has yet to dive into his work, it won't be time wasted. Also, if you have time, check out this version of Freddie's Going Down from the 2010 Crossroads festival with Joe Bonamassa and Robert Randolph. Superb stuff. https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=ggNY41Vc5yE

    Festive films

One of the finest films ever made (not really) and set over the Christmas period is Trading Places, with Dan Ackroyd and Eddie Murphy. Not only is it very funny and a hugely entertaining twist on the Prince and the Pauper, you also get a decent view of Jamie Lee Curtis showing her magnificent (at the time) Bristols, which always gets me into the Christmas spirit.
  18. He'd be the first player i can think of who has got better at football by not playing football. I agree with Smirking Saint. He really is quite green and has a great deal to learn and IMHO, isn't ready to act as the lone striker in RK's preferred formation.
  19. Teams have learned how to play us after our early season luck. Big test for Big Ron over the Christmas period and it will be interesting to see if he has some tactical answers and how the Club reinforce in January. Still, it has been a superb first half of the season with the squad we have, albeit disappointing today. The biggest frustration for me is the lack of decent first touch for our front 3/4, surely they can work on this in training?
  20. Anyone going to try and get tickets? I heard today that they are playing one night in Glasgow and one night at the O2. Shame it's not more.
  21. Spend the next few days cruising lingerie pictures online, with the excuse that you are working on a new line of Doris clobber, when really you are stocking up pics for the old w@nkbbank. I'm sure there used to be a naughty undies thread on here at some point which could start you off.
  22. That's sounds like proper f**king lols. I will try that on someone tomorrow.
  23. Spend time assembling a realistic business plan with short term and long term objectives, and stick to it as far as you can. There will always be circumstances out of your control that will alter things, but always have in mind what your objectives are and how to get there. Most start ups lack credibility, so be prepared to do a few freebies and put the hours in to get some work. Self motivation can be incredibly difficult. A lot of people say they are self motivated, but it's generally ********, as when push comes to shove, they'd rather toss it off on Facebook for an hour instead of chasing that job lead or converting that sale. Don't be afraid of knock backs. I read somewhere that the most successful Entrepreneurs have had at least one business fail. If you are a sole trader, try and get someone to bounce ideas off. I know a few guys who work for themselves and find it difficult at times. Set aside time for the admin side and don't let it ride. Enjoy it! Working for yourself is better than for someone else! What sort of work do you do?
  24. I did a stint of commuting from Southampton to Waterloo about 13 years ago, for 18 months. The trains were quite poor then and don't seem to have got any better since. Out of the 10 journeys in a week, I'd be lucky to arrive at Waterloo on time more than 4 times. I know little of that particular line, but it seems to me that there are so many lines making their way into Waterloo, that if there is a problem on one, it has a knock on to numerous other lines. A mate of mine did the same commute for over 10 years, but as he worked 5 mins walk from Waterloo, he had a bit of flexibility on time. I had to be at Canary Wharf for 8.00am and it was always difficult to get there on time, especially when they close off access the Jubilee line 'cos it's too busy! Still, at least back then there were 2 "buffet" carriages on the journey home where you could smoke and drink the large amount of booze you bought at the (now extinct) Victoria Wine outside platform 9. Some good times there, especially on a Friday. Wouldn't fancy it now, so you have my sympathy UJ.
  25. I hope we don't fanny about with it too long at the back like we did against City. Their second goal was so obviously going to happen the way it did, it was almost embarrassing. Bit more steel and determination to move the ball quickly through the midfield and I think we will be OK.
