  1. One area of concern or me was the poor first touch shown by our front three. They were much more assured in previous games, but yesterday they seemed to be, as Andy Townsend says, a "little bit all over the place". Hope they sharpen up considerably for the next two games. We showed City a bit too much respect, i think and got beaten by a terrific side who will surely be the nearest challengers to Chelsea. No complaints there, but i hoped for a bit more of an aggresive approach from RK and his men. Still, no drama's, let's get to the Emirates and stick one on the Arse.
  2. Looks like he just got boshed on a big hooner before taking his seat. I bet he was first in the munchies queue afterwards.
  3. So you are comparing apples with oranges. Same sport, different type of game. Using your logic, I guess you'd complain about having Women's tennis at Wimbledon televised because the average Female probably wouldn't take a game off of the average Male tennis player. But again, just because you don't like it, doesn't make it any less valid to put on TV. I still don't agree with your perception of discrimination. Did the simple fact that it was the Women's national team escape you? Not any old Sunday league team, irrespective of the non argument of quality. If there is any discrimination, it's from posters like you who don't want to see the Women's game progress and would presumably, rather see it suffer. Pretty blatant sexism, if you ask me.
  4. I fail to see why you are comparing Women's football with the Men's game? Why draw a comparison at all? The last time I looked, they didn't play against men. Please feel free to correct me if I am wrong, though. Your point about "positive discrimination" is equally baffling. Can you please expand it? There is no discrimination as far as I can see as there was no Men's game usurped in favour of the England Women's game. Just because you don't consider it something to watch, doesn't mean that everybody does. Do you apply the same logic to everything you don't want to watch? And there is a simple solution to stop you frothing at the mouth - turn off the f**king TV, mush. Now there's a thought.
  5. I don't agree with your definition of equality. It's not about gender equality within a particular sport, but equality of opportunity. Opportunity to participate and enjoy a sport, irrespective of comparison and mealy-mouthed cynicism. So what if the quality of Women's football isn't the same as the male game? That makes it no less valid as a sport or as a spectacle and no less worthy of putting on TV.
  6. The Scouse had a good run last season, but they still shipped a load of goals. For me, they haven't replaced the two players that were so key from a few years ago - Alonso and Macherano. No amount of fancy, ball-poncing, lightweight midfielders are going to make up for a couple of decent, hard, defensive midfielders. Rodgers has bought badly and needs his fortune telling by the Board. Anyway, f**k 'em. I hope they go down. Fed up with the overly sycophantic media coverage of a very average team living off past glories.
  7. Beautiful. I reckon all the fella's here who don't like women's football should raise a team and play against the England Women's team in a one off match. That would be fun to watch. I'm not sure, but i think i know which team would have the bigger balls.
  8. Sound. Good luck with it pap.
  9. There are plenty of plans afoot for the regeneration of the waterfront area at the Royal Pier - http://www.royalpierwaterfront.com/ This should provide an impressive upgrade to what is there at the moment and capture a lot more cruise trade for the future.
  10. Some thoughts here, bearing in mind I'm an IT numpty. Strikes me that the type of articles people respond to most are those written by Opiners on subjects as opposed to articles that are simply reporting events. Is there any way of separating or grading these ones? I guess some rags will have more columnists than others. Also, can the type of article be assigned a category? Articles on Prince Harry visiting mosques is unlikely to raise any comments (i assume) but those on high profile paedo cover-ups are likely too raise plenty Again, don't know how complicated it would be to implement (i'm a simple builder, guv) and i guess that this sort of filtering may well be something that leads on from the basic model, but was just wondering, like.
  11. Seems to me that it's not using "The War", (whatever part of "the war" you lot are referring too is not clear) to sell it's brand name (note, no products appear in the advert), more like portraying the decency of humanity when they don't want to fight - almost an anti war message in itself - which then leads on to a rather clumsy tagline about sharing. It's made in association with the RBL, who presumably gave it their blessing, so can't see the problem with it myself.
  12. Shame to hear that the actor Warren Clarke has passed away after a short illness. I remember some of cracking roles he played, but particularly Vic Wilcox in the TV adaptation of David Lodge's Nice Work and Josiah Hardwood in Blackadder - "I love her more than any pig and that's sayin summat!" Anyway, RIP big man, you brought us plenty of laffs.
  13. Very nice film of the opening ceremony. Terrific stuff and I'll raise a glass to MK, KL and RK for all their hard work, faith and benevolence in pushing this Club onwards and upwards. Didnt have a cry though!
  14. I'm sure there will be a few from here seagulling the van. Anyone know where the van is going to be parked?
  15. Couldn't give a monkeys about them or the players that left to go there, but I do have a beef with the amount of sycophantic media coverage they get, for a pretty average team. I assume this is based on past glory, plastic scousers in decision making positions within the media who grew up in the 70's and 80's and the supposition that Liverpool are everybody's second team. Glad they gave us a load of cash in the summer though!
  16. On the wider point of acceptance of what is "fed" there is a million miles between the superb investigative work of, say, the likes of Pilger and Foot to the BS paraded around by internet based crackpots and fools, paraded as "evidence". Trouble is, the latter tries to jump on the shirttails of the former without ever becoming even remotely close to exercising the same level of prowess, respect, dignity and sheer brilliance. As for your points about the McCanns, you say you have an "open mind" and then say they shouldn't be "let off the hook" in the very next sentence! Crikey! If that isn't charged, tried and convicted in one go, i don't know what it. And don't you think this exercise in pre-judgement is far more damaging than referring to another poster on a football forum as delusional? If not, then I would suggest you have a serious word with yourself in the corner of the room.
  17. I don't think I have seen any "hate" towards Pap. Far too strong a word, bandied about without any real justification, in my view. Exasperation, maybe . Hang on, though, I may have called him a f..kwit or similar in the past, but that doesn't mean I "hate" him. However, i have seen what could be considered hate on this forum, directed mainly at Glasgow Saint, Hypo, Delldays, Fry, Turkish and a few others. You might want to start with them in the first instance if you want an example.
  18. Yeah, but that doesn't stop Pap and his ilk having an opinion on something they know nothing about and then using that as apparent justification for their theories usually based on nothing more than it is the alternative to the generally accepted. It's already been proved on other threads he has no knowledge of Police procedure, criminal investigative procedures, the laws of physics, construction of buildings, etc, but that doesn't stop him "questioning" these things, from the comfort of his own home and with that cozy arm of internet based research from the blogs of internet crackpots and no-marks. I'd like to know how many FoI requests he's made? How many times he's got off his arse and tried to understand Police procedures and how he's done it? How often he's experienced any investigative journalism? What previous breakthroughs he’s made in any form of investigation? I cannot say for certain, but i'd be surprised if it exceeded f..k all. It's far easier to sit at home, adopting the hurt posture of a suppressed internet warrior, trying to bring light to the masses (another self-delusionary by-product of the Conspiracy Theorist) with nothing more than a laptop and a list of websites, than it is to get up and get out there seeking the truth with something tangible and real. Of course the argument here is that proper "work" curtails this, but quite honestly if the number and frequency of posts in this forum take up a not inconsiderable amount of Pap's time which may be better spent trying to prove his assertions.
  19. I'm intrigued now. What was the content of the original post?
  20. When I was a student I used to save water by ****ing in the sink. I was a better class of student though as I took the dishes out first.
  21. I particularly remember songs from the Soft Cell album Non-Stop Erotic Cabaret. I lost my cherry to "Bedsitter" to a lovely bird, a bit older than me, which helped as I was as green as grass. Unfortunately I didn't last to the end of the song, but was up for seconds by the time "Say Hello, Wave Goodbye" came on. Couldn't recover that quickly now though.
  22. Admirals Quay? Programmed to open December this year, i believe. But it's the same company that built the Gateway building. Don't know about the Wool House. FWIW I don't think the Gateway building is too bad, nestled as it is between the flowers estate, McDonalds and Thomas Lewis Way. But I agree with the poster who said the biggest problem was giving it the rather grandiose title of the Gateway to Southampton, especially as it consists of student accommodation and a couple of shops. Very strange.
  23. If "Team Rooney" doesn't include a couple of accountants and tax avoidance specialists to make damn sure he doesn't pay his 40%, i'll eat my hat. And that applies to anyone who can afford to engage such specialists too.
  24. He did in their last Europa game and they still ****ed up at home to the Baggies a few days later. Confident we can get something here. Certainly a point, but hopefully all three. To win here and go into the international break with 8 points on the NLY's would be cracking stuff. They feel the pressure at home and will expect to win against us, which, hopefully, will be in our favour.
  25. Remember it well. Took me back to the Milton reading that, cheers!! And the simple, but effective "Give me an S", etc with the elongated P and T.
