My mistake. The rise of the proletariat, trade union representation and working class stimulus must have been secondary to them.

My history of the Labour Party is a little sketchy, but i think Attlee was the first labour leader from outside the working class. Up til then, all the leaders were good, honest working class fellas from tough backgrounds, who, instead of studying it, empathising with it and vicariously adopting it - they actually lived it. OK, i'll confess, i'm being churlish just to provoke the obvious and expected reaction. Good to see you're still biting Verbal, despite your NY resolution not to.

There may be right wing nutjobs and left wing loonies, but as Saints fans they are our right wing nutjobs and left wing loonies, so by virtue of that we should cherish them.

Absolutely, since the party was taken from the working class, intellectual powerhouses (Kinnock aside) have been at the helm. So far be it from me to suggest the intellectual left (or those that show intellect and are left leaning) do not have the capacity to rationally embrace the needs and beliefs of those who belong to a different class. I'm glad they have felt our pain.

Which makes him the ideal man to lead a party that, apparenty, represents the ordinary/working class person.

I think Dune's place as "Poster most likely to wind up Lefties" is under some serious competition.

Miliband may well turn out to be a decent politician, but he's too young to be a party leader. None of the young'uns have the respect and gravitas of someone like Paddy Ashdown for instance, who atm (and imho), would be a very good party leader. Also when image and projection are as integral a part of modern politics as belief, he's hardly used his first few months to great effect. For the sake of the Labour Party, it's a shame Alan Johnson didn't want to be leader.

I've found that booking travel and hotels direct is the best way as you get to select what you want. Eurostar is generally the best way to go as it takes you to a more central place than the airports. Book early and get a good deal (plus the new-ish St Pancras station refurb is excellent). As for Hotels. there are some real gems to be found. It's worth spending a bit of time on tripadvisor.co.uk to get some reviews. I've always found it better to book direct - most hotels have an english page on their website if you are unfamiliar with the lingo. If you are going in July, make a note that Bastille Day on the 14th gets very busy. They do some cracking little jazz festivals in the summertime (if that's your thing), but if it's your first time there, just get a decent guidebook before you go and earmark a few things to do. It's not a place to do in a weekend! One little tip - you can buy your metro tickets before you go and this saves a bit of flustering around if you are new to the place - http://www.helloparis.co.uk/Getting-around-paris/3-paris-metro-tickets.html?gclid=COiBh4vFtKYCFQGDDgodSmFNFw may help.

Same here. He's proved the doubters (including me) wrong and i'm glad to be proved wrong. Well done Nigel, long may it continue.

Good to see Labour are as good at this sleaze malarkey as the Tories
Special K replied to trousers's topic in The Lounge
Most of whom made hay during the New Labour era of old school favours and supressed competition. Crapita are a prime example, of course there are others, but it seems that irrespective of the colours up their political mast, most politicians are unable to supervise departments capable of administering efficiency in procurement and delivery and are more than open to lining themselves up for a non-exec payday, post-election loss/stand down (e.g. Patsy Hewitt). -
My ABH on the rise. Sweet. As are TIR. Lavvvverly.

Fair play to him if he's earned a few bob. Doesn't matter what his political views are and in any case, these shouldn't stop him operating in a capitalist system, he's just enjoying the fruits of his labours. What i fail to understand is that he's managed to earn a few quid when he's ****ing crap, but hey ho.

Monday newspaper reports hardly focus on reporting the events of a saturday game; they are more likely to focus in on one aspect surrounding the game with a small reference to the events on the pitch. But it's the same for most clubs, except the big name Prem clubs.

FFS the bloke has a bit of banter back and suddenly he's a bitter, twisted neurotic with a vendetta against SFC. **** me, some of you lot take the biscuit.

http://www.bbc.co.uk/news/uk-england-12135980 RIP - tragic way to go.

Considering he's had **** all chart success (and he sounds like a chorus of farts in a truckers diner at breakfast), he's earned himself a few bob judging by the gaff he lives in. Must charge a fortune for appearances at Socialist Worker rallies i s'pose. Either that or he's following Dune's share advice tips.

I always found the best use of the W word on TV was this classic form Saturday Superstore in 1984. http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=NEkB25V_ow8

For HMV it's the Vinyl Countdown.

Agree with this. Hodgson has jumped into a right old bag of shyte and i hope the boys upstairs give him some backing to get the Club out of it. Slightly off topic, but after the semi final in '84 i love it everytime Everton lose, ha ha, makes me smile.

I guess you'd design the reinforced bra that has to hold them up?

He needs to buy his kids the GI Joe with the kung fu grip.
