The push up wheel was introduced by our History teacher, quality bloke as it happens. Ran an antiques business on the side, ex army i think. Doing PE in your vest and pants was a very good way of ensuring you never forgot your kit in future. I can only recall one nipper doing it and of course he got mercilessly rinsed for the rest of the term. Personally i'd make them wear a Pompey kit. That would be punishment enough

I wonder how different it is now to when i was at secondary school. We had a teacher who would make you do 10 reps on the push up wheel if you didn't do your homework. Could teachers get away with that now? Also, if you forgot your PE kit, you were made to do the sport in your kacks and (if you were lucky) vest, which included playing rugby too. I bet that's not allowed now.

I don't think anyone should lose their life over this, be it the person who leaked the info or the person who published it!! It seems to me that the security systems currently in place to deal with secretive information are not tight enough, but that doesn't mean to say it shouldn't be published. If anything this whole episode will serve to make Governments and large corporates more secretive.
-
No, it's not Assange, it's the person who leaked the information he's referring to, if you read the link correctly. But then again you're no stranger to not reading things fully and subsequently misinterpreting them aren't you Verbal.
-
I'll make up my mind, thanks, if it's all the same to you. It seems you have after all.
-
I can't make up my mind whether he's a cyber hero for making all ths information available and causing governments/individuals to squirm or a dangerous, egocentric **** risking world stability and diplomacy?

Human behaviour explained by Evolution....

Depends if your intelligent enough to realise crap "science" when you see it. Or perhaps you just like to generalise and stereotype if it suits? The supposition is that self confessed liberals have higher IQ based on their ability to "care" about others - **** poor generalisation in itself. I was just giving it a post modern slant. -

Self confessed liberals have always had a superiority complex, so there is nothing new there. The trouble with the above is that a self proclamation that the individual cares about the an "infinite number of genetically unrelated strangers" does not necessarily mean they do. Actions speak louder than words and from what i have seen, heard and experienced, there are a lot who experience their compassion vicariously and couldn't actually give a **** about anyone else other than themselves. Giving £10 to Shelter and saying it's dreadful what effect the benefit cuts are having on the poor, whilst sat around the dinner table downing more red wine, with like minded liberals, does not qualify. -
Interesting. The bastards got 4 strikes in my road!

It is far from certain that a) the bid would be successful and b) Panorama will have any influence over the voting of the FIFA committee. Irrespective of this, the BBC has an obligation to inform and to use the timing of such information to it's best advantage, which it has done. IMHO i don't think it has crossed the line as i do not see a direct link between them and the 2018 bid. This should not be confused with what obligation they have to the "stakeholders" or licence fee payers. I don't particulary like 80% of the programmes they make, but that is personal choice and not because they owe me an obligation to put on programmes that appeal to just me. It is obviously unpalatable for some, but then again I didn't see many complaints (on here) when they WERE found to be negligent with their programme on Live Aid money being used to buy weapons by corrupt governments, which IMHO was a far more damaging allegation. Perhaps it's just because it's football as i remember Panorama showing a similar programme with allegations into IOC corruption before the vote on the 2012 Olympics was made. Lo and behold, we still won it.

Thanks for posting that up. It focuses me on what the City and its residents had to go through. It's something we could easily forget and can only imagine; the horror of the attack, the devastating loss of life, the grief of families and the physical changes to the historical profile of Southampton. But we should also remember the undoubted resilience of the people of Southampton and the determination to carry on as normal in the face of the sort of hardship that current generations (and i include myself in this before anyone gets arsey) can never imagine.

Spot on. I also think the sword of fear has been used to bully everyone into line. Armegeddon will surely follow immediatley if we don't turn off those lights are chop in those cars for a treader. ********. What the world needs is some sensible discussions and directions on what the future holds and not a load of fannying about with arm waving and knee jerk reactions.

I suppose if it stops Dirty Des from running with meaningless stories about Princess Di, house prices and the mythical dissolving of the middle classes, then it can't be all bad?
-
The timing of the programme was, from journalistic terms, spot on. The profile of the FIFA committee will not be greater than in the coming days and i think it was fair enough to do this now, providing that they are confident their sources and information are spot on. Panorama have not obligation to the 2018 bid team although, as usual, people are confusing some sort of "moral" obligation with it. Wide of the mark imho. I think it is fair enough as the bid may not be successful anyway. If the allegations are correct, then it's high time that FIFA cleaned its act up and if this, along with other media pressure from elsewhere forces it, then it can only be a good thing.

Students have been sponsored through higher education for years. The trouble is identifying a student who will be worthwhile investing in and not someone who will just take the money, toss it off for 3 years (assuming no flunking) and come out the other end a fatter, booze soaked, more jaded version of the nipper who went in. However, I do agree that there needs to be more cohesion between government and the private/public sector when it comes to sponsoring students and the availability of courses that will actually benefit the economy in the long term. I was fortunate to go through Uni in the early 90's and i thought i was hard done by when i came out with £400 overdraft and student loans totalling £1,100!! And i guess all students work just as hard as they have ever done, which i found to be quite sporadic where some weeks were full on and some were pretty easy, but you are right, it is all worth it in the end.

I wonder if the tubby, camp astrologer read that liaison in his stars? I assume you mean someone else. You should be a celebrity gossip monger in one of the red tops, it would be hilarious.

Unfortunately, it seems to be normal behaviour these days. My car has been dented twice this year whilst parked in car parks, with no details left by the perp.

Do you need a persecution complex to be a mod? -
There's nothing wrong with Gaby Roslin at all. Top crumpet IMHO. As is Claudia Winkleman, despite the obvious lolage at her surname.
-
No mate, he badly let himself down with that.
-
Quite. I particularly enjoyed the many replays of the featured 2 goals he scored during his notable time with Saints. Pity the useless **** couldn't bury the only one he had to, away to Derby in the play off 2nd leg, with about a minute to go.
-
My mate packed in his bird and 6 months later she won 1.5 million on the lottery. How we lol'd when his desperate attempt to get back with her was met with a swift, nasty rebuke.

I was also a Whizzer and Chips fan myself.

LOL at anyone who took it as a serious post?!?!?! Woooossshhh!

I thought it was "I'm not racialist, but....".
