I went to the India to watch on Sky when we got tonked 4-1 at Notarf Krap - bad move. I agree with you about the pubs, although i haven't been out in Winch for ages. Anyway, it's a young mans game now, so i've given it all up.

That was The India Arms! I used to get my porn from Dirty Norms up on the Stockbridge Road. For a small newsagent he had an unsurpassed collection of mid to low quality grot to suit the less discerning punter.
-
Ours was mid to late 80's and generally followed - Green Man, The Exchange, The Vine, Royal Oak, Jesters and back to The Vine (occasional diversions to either Bakers or Market, depending on whether you heard there was decent clacker there or not).

...oh, and there were lots more house parties around back then.

The emergence of the internet has coincidied with me having kids so my social life went right downhill then anyway and was replaced with parental duties. But before the internet, computers and mobile phones, going out to the pub was far more frequent. Growing up in Winch, you got know quite a few people around as it is a small-ish place. Pretty much everyone I knew would be in the same places at the same times, so you were able to pitch up somewhere and know someone. Friday and Saturday nights were a guaranteed night out with the same faces.

No, as i said, people should be more tolerant of others who have a faith. A great deal of good has been done and continues to be done by ordinary people who have a faith (as well as those who don't) and wish to live their life in accordance with their beliefs. I know some who have a strong faith but cannot reconcile Creationism against scientific knowledge and who struggle to adopt this into their belief's. It makes for an interesting discussion!
-
TBH i'd be happy with baps like hers. Something to play with at the least.
-
No, the fact that you appear to be so intolerant of anyone who has anything resembling a faith or belief outside of strict scientific explanation is dispiriting.

Of course not, but the demonisation of an organisation (for want of a better phrase) that counts over 1.1 billion people amongst it's ranks for the acts of relatively few individuals is, not IMHO, a sensible thing to do. I don't think the decisions of the papacy to keep schtum was right at all (in fact completely abhorrant), but there were comments on this thread that just disregarded Catholicism completely. I just think sweeping disregard for peoples faith is a petty and small minded thing to do. After all, look at your Sarah Palin thread and you'll see that Christine O Donnell (who you appear to be putting forward as a solution to the worlds economic ills) is a staunch Catholic and defender of the Papacy. oh well, nothing is ever simple is it!
-
There are very sweeping statements on this thread that do nothing for the posters, other than show them to be as bigoted as those they accuse. I'm all for a bit of enlightened atheism, but this cheap sniping, based upon nothing more than tabloid-intelligent, preformed misjudgement, is all rather depressing.
-
I agree with your comments. I'm not Catholic myself (and will have a cheap gag or two at any religion, admitedly), but the "aggressive atheism" that was mentioned on the news yesterday, is pretty evident in some of the posts on this thread. It's all rather dispiriting really.

They all have a good reputation for playing behind the front man, generally in the hole and always with the youth team.

I've never met Manji, but i have this immovable image of Comic Book Guy from The Simpsons whenever i read any of his posts.

Cortese is watching!! I, for one, will only buy officially sanctioned and approved snaps of Club weirdos and nutters, thanks.

Put your handbag away Flanji, you don't know the bloke.

But you'd be more likely to eat it in the first place.

There are a few barrack room lawyers on the main forum. Although i'm not a lawyer, i have a fair bit of contractual dispute resoluton experience (related to the construction industry) if that is of any use?

Do any of you good folk have any recommendations for decent kitchen fitters in Southampton? I could organise the trades myself, but it's a pain and quite honestly i'd rather give it to a local company anyway. I'd be much obliged if you have any suggestions. Cheers,

Sure the circumstances are different, but does it tie in with the ambition that has been expressed by the Club? I'm not sure and that's my question. If we were flailing about, no money, split board, etc, etc then yeah, i can see it, but the man with the plan says he wants us playing at OT, etc in 4 years. Maybe he's the one who needs the reality check! I really hope NA proves to be an inspired appointment, but i have my doubts.
-
Who do you know "in football"? Oh, sorry, you did a google search on him, my mistake! Paul Sturrock was also given glowing references, but it didn't mean he was right for this Club.
-
Why does it all have to decend into petty *****ing and insults? There are some here who have expressed disappointment with the appointment but i hardly think that reason for them to be called moronic, deluded or arrogant; terms which the accusers would doubtless protest about being called themselves. I wait to be convinced of the new man and his ability, but will remain open minded. However given that NC said at the start of last season he wanted PL football in 5 years, i cannot see bringing NA in as a statement of that sort of intent.
