Using the name the "English Defence League" was a bit of an own goal for a self proclaiming "peaceful" organisation. Bit of a Ratner moment there for the organisers i feel. Irrespective of their stated MO, one cannot help but sense the real agenda is more sinister and the comparisons with more extreme groups will be unavoidable. Having said that, all Muslim extremists (and for clarification for the overly sensitive lefties on here - this does not apply to the vast majority of Muslims) can fack right off elsewhere. And yes they do exist (refer recent court cases).

Yet another Nu Labour balls up.

So the internal market structure to the NHS, introduced by the Tories of course in the early 90's, finds an ally, nay supporter, in BTF! You suprise me, you lefty radical, you.

Sad to hear he's passed away, but what a life and what a lot he packed into it. I got tanked up a few times in the Maltsters Arms in Devon when he owned it in the early 90's and vaguely remember the group i was with trading some gags with him and some of his mates, most enjoyable. Good old Floyd. RIP.

I wonder if the Pikeys will price for tarmacing this additional parking area? There might be some plastic fascia and soffit work to do at the hospital as well.

Yet you're more than happy to "show compassion to" and argue for the release of a convicted terrorist responsible for the death of over 270 people? What kind of crazy, ****ed up world do you live in? -
He will not sacrifice his life, he's just got some bad luck. When he dies he will be, to some people, a martyr. Presumably you saw the reception he got when he landed back in Libya? And of course Martyrs believe their innocence, it's part of their system of justification.
-
Ok, the martyrdom will come after he karks it.
-
No. And to those who said yes, how does the vicarious compassion you feel weigh up against the vile martyrdom he will now be bestowed with and all that's negative with it, the influence he will have to younger wanabee terrorists by being paraded on TV as having "got away" with it and the rift in international relations that have been caused by this weak, insipid decision, dressed up as a triumphant example of human rights?

His country gave him up for trial, so he probably felt it was a non starter. There are lots of questions surrounding the conviction and it's worth having a trawl on teh innernet for some Paul Foot archives on it. Some of his views are a bit out there, but his investigation is thorough and he's proabably done more than most to delve into this case. But there are a lot of outstanding issues that can lead you to think the conviction is not safe.

Good english manager, knows the lower leagues, knows the english game, knows what he's doing, etc, etc, etc.........

Not particularly well travelled, but the most "different" place i've been to is Sarajevo, last year. Not because it looks different to any european city, it doesn't, or that the people are different, they aren't. Except for obvious contrast between that part of the city that survived the siege and those buildings which remain peppered with gunfire and mortar shells. Brand new Mercedes showrooms sit next to derelict accommodation blocks, full of bullet holes. The people showed great resilience during the siege and they are some of the friendliest, likeable people i've met, with a seemingly great attitude to life, considering that there are mass graveyards with bright white headstones in the middle of residential areas to remind them of their recent history. In fact the bits of Bosnia i saw (Mostar, Blagaj, Jablanica) appeared mostly unaffected (Mostar is now virtually rebuilt) but what spectacular scenery.

Good old Limpit, he's probably hung like a mule with a foot long tongue and can breathe through his ears. Jammy bastard. For a geezer with a lop sided face, a queer smile and wishy washy politics, he doesn't half rope in quality clacker.

Tyson Gay must be gutted. He runs quicker than any American ever has and is still way behind Bolt. What a race!
-
Americans do get federal funded health care through medicare and medicaid, but it doesn't cover (by any means) all. So some on low incomes will qualify and all child health is covered by the state; they are not wholly left without treatment as you suggest.

110bn this year or 23.3% of central govnt spending goes on healthcare.

"anti gay abuse"? I'm not sure i've ever heard any at teh game. I've heard some funny banter though, so maybe that's the same thing. Is a chant to Brighton fans of "Does your boyfriend know you're here?" qualify as "anti-gay abuse?" And why is calling Beckham a poof any different to calling him a ****? Perhaps we should get Graham Norton and Alan Carr to be guest pundits on MOTD to highlight the issue.

Errrrrr, the Judge didn't "rule" on anything. She was convicted, by a Jury, of perverting the course of justice by knowingly lying to police. End of. And there was no suggestion of her being on par with a murderer in my post :-? don't know where that came from.
-
So you know this for sure do you? Have you questioned her yourself? At the trial the Judge said she showed no remorse for the murdered kids, only for herself, by continually lying to the police for weeks. She was manipulative and treated the whole investigation glibly, with no appreciation of the severity of it all. Once she was questioned the first time, she should have confessed she was lying in her statement. To not do so is not "stupid and naive" but knowingly perverting the course of justice. She deserved her sentence and more, but not to be let out early. Unfortunately, there are too many people in this country willing to look for excuses for people like these. The tabloid press may be sweeping in their stories, but people like you, peddling equally unjustified or unsubstantiated theories are just as bad, if not worse.

Something That is Gone - The Waterboys. Usual thing, a bird. Gymnopedies no 1 - Satie - reminds me of someone who suffered too much when they shouldn't have. Strangely enough; I Found Lovin' - The Fatback Band - I was listening to this when i got a text message from a mate telling me his nipper had died. Can't listen to that song again without thinking about it.

Stephen Fry's speech at Strauss' dinner at Lord's last week Part 2
Special K replied to John B's topic in General Sports
If you haven't already, try his podcasts. There is a terrific one where he presents a speech in defence of the licence fee. He is one of the most enjoyable people to listen to these days, without a doubt. -
Seems ok for a plastic window with 2 openers.

So sad that Football has lost one of it's statesmen. Someone who, amongst all the avarice and superficiality of modern football, was still so much in touch with the average fan and loved the game. RIP
