To put it in a fair way if we came into the playoffs off the back of the unbeaten streak we would probably all be happy enough .. during that unbeaten run I think most of us thought russ has cracked it, that it took time to get the team playing his way and now it was paying dividends .. problem is that run of form seems a million miles away now ,, we would be lucky to go 2 matches unbeaten at the minute even against poor sides .. we have not been good in the big games at all either .. the whole thing looks completely inevitable now and for me I’d absolutely try to make the change now rather then wasting this play off opportunity
-
Why would it be silly ? if we keep him for the play offs we are writing off this season absolutely no chance we are winning the play offs with Him in charge .. surely it’s worth trying someone else with the reward of premiership football at stake .. We have a decent squad but russ is getting nothing out of them .. this isn’t bad luck now and isn’t going to change unless we do something about it
-
The strange thing is how did he manage to take us on a 25 match unbeaten run ? since the run ended we don’t even look average anymore, we are struggling against everybody at the moment. Momentum And form seems at the worst it’s been all season.... as it stands it seems a total waste to let him stay for the playoffs.. we haven’t got a cat in hells chance of winning the playoffs in our current form. make the change now and maybe we get a new manager bounce that can take us through the playoffs
-
The point your missing is that we got exactly what research would have told you we would have got when appointing Martin .. When we where looking at candidates for the job the only selling point Martin had was the possession stats and style of his football there was no success and nothing else so yes i absolutely think his appointment was based on that if we was instead looking for a manager with multiple promotions you could have gone for a Neil warnock type but that’s no where near hipster enough for us
-
But we chose a manager with average results , based on his style of play and possession stats .. pretty much EVERYTHING the Swansea fans said about him turned out true .. hindsight’s a wonderful thing .. but in this case he’s pretty much delivered exactly what anyone who researched him would expect really also we don’t have a city obsession ? we just keep hiring the likes of Wilcox and shields ., yeah coincidence 😆. our whole identity at the minute is style over substance .. I really can’t see why anyone would argue against that
-
It’s not just that it’s the obsession with city youth players etc too .. in choosing Martin we went for possession over results .. he’s done exactly what was on the tin when selecting him
-
Problem is for them he kinda did fit the bill ., let’s be honest since Cortese we have had mainly a bunch of new age hipster types in charge who are absolutely about bringing propaganda football and thinking they have some new age plans .. much prefer having a guy like cortese in charge who is cracking heads to get results
-
Can’t we just get Cortese back .. I would love this
-
We need to sack him now imo . i haven’t even been on his case in this thread .. but it’s becoming completely evident we are not gonna get promoted this season with him in charge so why not let someone else have a crack at the playoffs act fast get somebody in who is more focused on results over style and see where it takes us
-
Pains me to say it but I think we might as well pull the plug now and give someone else a crack at the playoffs .. Since the unbeaten run ended we are just looking soft and predictable . I wouldn’t even give us a 10-1 shot at getting through the play offs .. we struggle to be convincing against even weak opposition .. I don’t see any way russ can grind us through the tough matches of the playoffs .
-
I think russ just preferred stuey .. and it was at the time smallbone was getting in every week . Both are decent to be fair but alcaraz for sure looked a serious prospect after being one of our shining lights in the premiership
-
Alcaraz was certainly one of our best premier league players at the end of last season anyway .. gaston was actually a decent player .. he also tore up the championship when on loan at Boro .. he kinda fell down the pecking order for us as it was at the time we had Lallana J rod lambert etc ., he always looked quite creative and could pick a through ball
-
We could try Aribo there instead in a false 9 role he’s done it before and we tried it with Charly Aribo is perfectly capable of doing anything that che can , che can only score close range scuffs anyway . Arribo couldn’t ? all we keep hearing from russ is we created enough chances but we not clinical enough .. Well hello what the fuck do you expect with Che Adams up front ? its madness
-
Oh well no bazunu to moan about anymore so back to the Ronald McDonald with his boots on the wrong feet at the other end of the pitch . still bemuses me how this cart horse seems to continue to stay in the team and people forget about how absolutely shit he is . Just because he manages to scuff in a few close range chances .. he needs about 6 sitters to get a goal even if he does score he is still fucking woeful
-
Lol why are we making out like bazunu is the only goal keeper capable of passing to his defenders as well .. all this ball at feet stuff is the biggest load of bs I’ve heard since the stuff about elyounoussi being selected all the time for off the ball work (which he wasn’t even that great at anyway Might as well sign a striker who’s good with his chest 🤣
-
Iol I couldn’t care less if his distribution is as good as Glenn hoddle. What good does it do us ? What’s more important the fact that nearly any shot on our goal goes in past bazunu or his silly distribution ? hes been absolutely shocking for 2 years it’s like people try to find anything to argue his cause his job is to keep the bell out of the net and he totally sucks at it
-
It’s pretty funny how so many people get upset with those happy by this news it’s not like we are wishing pain on bazunu .: it’s just it means that he now can’t be selected and he was a regular liability.. im pretty damn confident our goals against are gonna be far better now .. feel free to requote this post if I’m wrong
-
Who could trust managers picking elyounoussi countless times last season even though every man and their dogs knew he was shit.. managers can get it wrong too majority on here have been moaning how piss poor bazunu is .. I don’t wish injury on him but him being out of the team will be good for our promotion hopes
-
It’s never nice to rejoice in a player getting injured .... But this might actually be just what we need .. we have been having to defend with any decent shot on tarrget resulting in a goal I can’t see how former player of the season McCarthy can be worse tbf . this injury could be the difference between going up or not so whilst I feel for bazunu it’s a change that needed to happen
-
Still baffles me that we don’t even try someone else ..it’s clear as day that he’s a liability .. McCarthy gets a lot of stick but one season he was nearly player of the year. Just wish we would actually try to change it now .. going into the playoffs with baz in goal is asking for disaster
-
In for me .. I think he’s the first manager in a while that actually recognises the best line ups, by that I mean his team sheets are probably most aligned with the fans.. we don’t end up with weird moi like picks from him.. even his arguably poorest favourites like manning and smallbone he has started to see what the fans see so respect there .. alsio think he’s a good man manager, keeps most of the squad involved and has brought players back from the dead like Arma and Aribo who a lot of fans had written off.. tactics wise he’s a bit too predictable and we could do with toughening up but there’s enough positives for me
-
Yeah it’s not really possible to compare jones vs Martin . Jones came into a awful side with not much creativity no decent strikers, a hologram gk and a team full of losing mentality in the premiership.. I don’t think it’s a coincidence all three managers where shit last season- it wAs a difficult job made even more difficult by the fact supporters and media being on his back almost streight away it is possible that if jones was brought in this season instead he could have done a decent job sometimes for a manager it’s about being in the right place at the right time. koeman for example came into a half decent foundation after poch and did superb, he did shit at Everton though hoddle same, great with us terrible at spurs
-
Hard to label him our worst manager in recent history.. we were shit under three differant managers last season .. it’s hard to pin it all on him. personally I’d have preferred keeping him then replacing him with selles..
-
I can’t blame him for this, che has been very wasteful and in general we have a load of exciting wide players but no clinical strikers Adams is super wasteful and we all know this so it’s a bit unfair to bash him for trying something else
-
Hehe well he would probably be equally useless at saving shots .. but would be an upgrade on the passing out from the back so why not 😆
