Plenty of managers could do a good job here at championship level so wouldn’t it make more sense to get one that might actually grow with us and not just use as a stepping stone ? I don’t see that happening at all with rohl

Not saying we should, but the thing I like about rusk is he’s giving the impression of awareness of the situation. After suffering Martin and juric who just kept plugging away with their flawed philosophies sticking their heads in the sand and not even changing if their jobs depended on it, it’s refreshing to have rusk just focussing on defence first and keeping us in games. it shows an ability to address and adapt even in hard times: also just because this is his idea in our current predicament doesn’t mean he would play ultra defensively if he was managing us next season theoretically speaking it’s just a tactic used in a dire situation

Lol have a day off guys . Rusk has walked into a absolute shit show of a club leaking 3-4 goals a games he’s made an assessment that the best way for us is to try and stay in games and for the most part he’s done that even when not getting results like villa and Fulham. he’s stopped us getting smashed every week and today got us past derbys embarrassing record and against city of all teams .. it’s a good day not sure why people are trying to discredit him

Told yall rusk at least organises a defense . It’s a refreshing change this season that someone actually manages to identify that problem . Always best to make sure your house is safe before you go out trying to party

He’s been my number one choice since the thread started .. 17-to 5th now since taking over Coventry .. isn’t a one hit wonder as also did it at derby .he’s a huge name the players will have the utmost respect for yet his premiership stints at Chelsea and Everton will also stop the vultures circling if he had success with us,which I think is important. We don’t wanna start to turn things around only to get more upheaval ..

What I meant was a decent manager like rohl in this case getting a tune out a lower table championship team.ijust don’t think it’s such a huge feat.. a poor squad in the championship isn’t as much of a gulf as say us in the premiership .. We have just seen Luton and Ipswich get promoted neither with super squads.. even Pompey are only 4 points behind sheff Wednesday

Also feel like our fans are trying to really polish up rohls achievements as something outstanding but keeping up Wednesday and having a decent first half followed by a dogshit second half of the season doesn’t look that impressive . Look at the jobs when Luton went up or McKenna at Ipswich ..a well managed club doing well in the championship isn’t some freak occurrence and plenty have punched above their weight more

This season is a write off and has been for long time .it’s not even worth getting angry about anymore .. imo at least rusk gets it that setting up defensive stops us getting battered every week and keeps us in games more . .. earlier on in the season I Blamed bad management too but it’s becoming clear that no one coukd get a tune out of them this season

This should be sorted before we even started throwing him premier league game time.. .you wanna pay premier league football ? Sign the contract!.. Robinson signed, maybe it would be better to reward the youngsters who actually commit

In context of what we have been served up under the other managers a draw is impressive we looked like losing every game ., so far under rusk we have had two draws out of three and the other game we didn’t concede for 70 odd minutes .: this is a huge improvement and whilst it’s a tiny sample size he looks the first in a long time that can organise a defence .if rusk brought that kinda ratio over a season we would have been in with a chance of actually staying up in the premiership with (the worst side in the history of the league ).. there’s zero guarantee rohl could step up to the prem any more then there was with russ. With rusk we get a chance to see what he can do at the highest level with a bad team . If he keeps it up it’s a impressive feat

Get your point but we made enough chances to win that game yesterday .so playing for 0-0 a bit harsh ..he puts defense first which is a good thing I’d rather have a pragmatic sensible coach then go back to the stupid philosophy managers and shipping goals cos they are too stubborn

Gotta say if rusk keeps up his close to point a game ratio he deserves the job imo.. why risk anyone else if he’s getting that ratio out apparently worst premier league side ever ..it’s a small sample size but he’s putting the likes of Martin who got promoted and juric to shame

At championship level the gulf between the teams are a lot less then the premiership so getting a relegation threatened team to mid table isn’t such a miracle . I mean look at at the jobs Jones/edwards done at Luton or McKenna taking Ipswich up two leagues it’s not that uncommon for a lower tier championship club to compete so rohl feels kinda meh to me to add to that sheffields Wednesdays form since the start of the year has fell of a cliff so what looked more impressive earlier in the season isn’t really working any more

He seems to be the tactically prudent manager we needed when we hired juric .. what we needed all season was a manager that adopts a defense first outlook and we wouldn’t be in this mess .people can think he doesn’t have the credentials but he’s already showing he’s a lot more capable then experienced managers like juric and Martin and this is a higher level then rohl has managed

It’s not just Media training you can clearly see he’s not just talking waffle like russ did .. he’s the first manager we have for a long time that seems to be able to improve us defensively .. gone is the naive stupidity of russ and juric and im not surprised at all we get a result today

Yeah it’s to early to even contemplate atm .. if he suddenly started pulling results out though it would be quite impressive he seems way more in reality and smart then russ who managed promotion

Totally agree with you on this. Just because this squad was crap in the premier league doesn’t mean it’s gonna be in the championship .. most of them are proven .. add to that it’s gonna be more difficult to upgrade the team whilst we are in the championship ..

Think he probably needs to play in a 2 to be max effective . We haven’t really played to his strengths at all .he’s got pace and is a decent finisher but needs the ball played in behind ..

Yeah I agree on formation Id also prefer a back four with two holding dms but downes was out also so maybe that played a part .. I do think rusk is talking a lot of common sense though after having martins playing suicide shit passing out from back and juric leaving the midfield wide open it makes a lot of sense to try and keep games tight and defend first .. think our best approach would be try to limit the space for the opposition as much as possible and then try to counter so there’s much more space on the break when we counter. pretty much opposite of what Martin was doing . at least rusk is recognising our limitations .. defense first is a good approach when you have a limited squad

I think it’s exactly the right approach .. our team are shit so you play to keep it tight and hope to nick a goal.. Greece won a euros like it with a crap Squad so it evens the playing field .. unfortunately we can’t even defend so it might not work either but at least he managed to not concede for a decent portion of the game

For what it’s worth I think rusks approach is the closest to right approach we have had this season .. he’s basically saying we have to defend first and try and make games tight .. when you are at a obvious disadvantage quality wise this seems to make a lot of sense .. result didn’t go to plan today but at least he gets it
