Chortle.. The response from the Ipswich fans in that article could have been written by Trousers or Rallyboy.. they know the history too!
-
Nah, it doesn't work like that. We've all known some brilliant professors/coders/subject expert in something random/etc. who have been absolutely awful at teaching and imparting knowledge. Remember it's show and not tell. In his case showing that you can make a decent living in football but if you want to get the best rewards you have to ally work to your talent. "This is a mistake I made earlier".. 😉

'Ow would you know, Ron? ;-)

The clubs don't know as the covid protocols for attendance still haven't been decided.

Your analysis on this matter is so far off the mark it's a bit worrying. Now if you said they were scaremongering about immigrants or 'benefit scroungers' you might be more accurate, and if you had pointed out how our PM was ignoring parliament I'd have agreed. But are you really saying that a government that has all along been blase', playing catch up, reluctant to act, with a PM who didn't go to the first 5 Cobra meetings, who went around shaking hands and making glib statements, has done many u-turns, has overseen a generally incompetent response, is trying to raise fear and hysteria?? The government who had to be dragged kicking and screaming into action by Sage? Let me give you a personal illustration.. Yesterday I took aged parent to an eye clinic. The records showed that the last check was back on March 17th last year which reminded me that we drove back past a local pub which was advertising a St. Patrick's night event. I play a bit of Irish music and normally I'd go but commented "I shan't be going to that!". I sometimes read the foreign press so had seen the progress of the virus elsewhere and the measures they had put in place. Similarly I did a bit of online language teaching for a student in the EU so had another source of information. I knew we'd have to lock down and that we'd left it late. The response in the UK was lackadaisical in comparison and playing the whole thing down. Plenty of PPE said Matt Hancock in recorded public statements, but then of course they saw the opportunities for their mates and took action, using the virus as an excuse to get around usual procurement procedures, and overpaying. So I really think you should look more widely before expressing your opinions and perhaps change your target. I've found the Private Eye medic give a very useful two page commentary in every issue, and he has been very open about where he has had to change his mind on aspects of the situation. In the meantime I hope to go to St. Mary's and my training for the new season starts tonight amongst an age group who are showing the highest rates at the moment. No hysteria from me, but maybe a bit of exercise would do you good too.

JRM sounds a bit like Sajid Javid - "mustn't cower in front of the virus..". I've bought my season ticket, and with due precaution will be back. Maybe I'll regret it, but at least I won't have these regrets: https://www.theguardian.com/world/2021/jul/26/covid-patients-tell-of-regrets-over-refusing-jab-vaccine-intensive-care

Hmmm, this has all gone a bit quiet. Time to ignore forum speculation and wait for the OS - and that's a general observation!

I abominate the PM who is a narcissistic, lazy, unempathetic liar, and a populist who wants to be liked so he's far more likely to shrug his shoulders and say 'whatevs" and "so what". It's the "and co" behind him that are even more dangerous. That said I'm not sure what the answer is to mass events. We already have a high resurgence of cases and mutterings from the medics, and the rest of the world thinks our "Freedom Day" opening up is a recipe for disaster. What we don't need now are more people who are against vaccinations. The anti-vaxer (MMR) loons have already led to a resurgence in measles cases, and the last thing we need is a cohort of people saying "I'm not going to have one because you told me to".. .. Ah yes, the Yellow Fever vaccination, it's a doozy. Had it in my buttock when I was 4. Couldn't move for days..

Interesting and relevant article just published this afternoon..: https://www.theguardian.com/world/2021/jul/25/seriously-ill-young-people-in-current-covid-admissions-expert-warns

It was a pre-season friendly, the first of them. The aim wasn't to give B team players a chance (apart from Olufunwa?) but to give everybody in the first team squad 45 minutes. The presence of Djenepo at the back doesn't mean he's going to play there, but given that all the forwards have to come back to defend at some stage or another during games it was a useful exercise and learning experience.

Christ! I agree with something that CB Fry posted. I must go and have a lie down. Can I suggest that all those who don't want to be told to get a vaccine try and get themselves infected and then isolate themselves for a bit, thus gaining a degree of immunity and less likely to pass the virus on. No cheating by going into hospital if it gets worse..

Callum Slattery - Official: Signs for Motherwell
suewhistle replied to SuperSAINT's topic in The Saints
Basically I think quertyell and LuckyNumber7 are both echoing what I said earlier. Maybe it's a physical issue, and we all know that there's not much you can do about that. I've no bad feeling towards him though. -
Callum Slattery - Official: Signs for Motherwell

When I saw him play for the first team, and I can't remember who against, I must say he looked a bit lackadaisical and not what I was expecting given his reputation. It might be that he was struggling with the pace but both Kegs Chauke and Caleb Watts seemed to want it more in their brief appearances. Anyway, he's still playing professional football, and I'm sure the nitty gritty of Scots football will benefit him in one way or another. -
I'd rather given up the idea of going to see Newcastle: had hoped to drive up for a few days with a friend in the Dales and a quick trip up on the train from Darlo. But the current confused situation and resurgence of cases has rather put me off the idea. I'm of the age where I've been double vaccinated but not sure about my heart for getting up to the away stand at St. James'!.
-
Yeah. It's " fewer" FFS. ;-)
-
If he does go to Newcastle he'll be their first signing this window, with Ashley agreeing only very reluctantly to the move as he is over 27 and hence no resale value. We know what's going on here but I suspect moans are widespread throughout the league from a good number of clubs. Let's hope that the ones doing more signings have Les Reed in charge..

No, I did understand your Antwerp point! I'd certainly like to visit again. 🙂
-
Now that's better.. He'll make a living in football which is probably a rare event for posters on this board (apart from Monk and MLG or course..)
-
He'd obviously get more playing time at Saints but I wonder how much we've guaranteed? Anyway, what's wrong with Antwerp, a wonderful place for both chocolate and beer?!
-
Yes, he doesn't look like somebody unwilling to receive and play the ball forward. He's a bit of a vessel restricted in his ability to manoeuvre but his long passing is good. Edit: reply to LoSS

But immuno-compromised people, and there's plenty of young ones, are going to be second class citizens anyway and will be relying on others to get the jab to reduce the chances of infection. In the same way I am wearing a mask still in crowded indoor places because it offers a reassurance to other people that I'm being responsible. With the extension of the vaccination programme to younger age groups I wouldn't be so concerned about the younger groups, unless they're stupid enough to think they won't be affected and become a risk to others.
-
Which one has had the lucky escape then?
-
I'd be inclined to keep him. Given the financial risk of relegation, plus the extra millions for a couple of places in the table set against ~20 million and a cut to Liverpool the risk of losing him for nothing doesn't seem so bad. Although the club's finances are bad at least we will be getting rid of the Forsters and Leminas of this world who we have been paying to play for other clubs. The club will be working on much better information than an internet forum and will no doubt be weighing all these aspects up. Money seems to be tight all round - no spending at Everton yet, for example, so this is a difficult transfer window to call. The club haven't got much money, but by the looks of it we're not the only ones drawing in our belt.

Bu**er, I saw a post by Turkish because I hadn't logged in. Yes Turkish, I lived in Italy for a while and sometimes make posts based on my knowledge. But not for a long time. You, on the other hand seem to make the point regularly, just so you can use it as a point to make against me. It might have been amusing once, but it long ago took on the form of bullying, just like your crass reference to me wearing dungarees. I appreciate you don't like anybody not like you, and you don't like the idea of equality or at least people getting uppity because they have expressed their feelings. You probably don't even like yourself, which is understandable.

I know a traditional jig tune called 'Cock up your beaver', which the historians amongst you will understand refers to the tipping of your hat, made from beaver skin. In other news I see that our dear PM and friends are still deludedly talking about a 2030 World Cup bid, Cressida Dick is happy with the Met's plan for last Sunday and the FA, who have responsibility for staging the event have said sod all.. In further not news to anybody on here it's good to see that Hypo, LD, Turkish and a few others are at least consistent in their views that equality and concern about it are a bad thing.
