Except he was playing a Premier League team and has played other such games and hasn't looked out of place. Some of us older fans ( I can't remember if you qualify!) will remember players who patently weren't. Mention (as an example) Lee Todd to such a fan and they will wince.. So I thought he played well, considering also his lack of recent opportunities, and he's a good enough player that you don't groan when you see his name on the team sheet. I've known plenty of those!

Yep, I'd agree with that summary. I didn't think Smallbone would take quite such a bad penalty but I called the Walcott one. Good to see Smallbone back on the pitch though. But as for the game we did well and I can't be bothered to go back in the thread to see the usual moaners, I can see enough on this last page. I thought Lyanco was a revelation, and the best bit was that he seemed to be enjoying himself and making the effort. Just before the game I was watching an analysis of Manchester United and their lack of pressing: we may not have the ultimate skilled players but ours do put in the effort and they're well drilled too. I was muttering about how Chelsea could bring on Mount and we bring on Long, but I thought he had a decent game. Walcott I'm afraid no longer has it and was less effective. I'm not too upset about that loss. We made more changes than they did and reckon they'll be mightily relieved. I may be grumpier after the Watford game..

Rope, carabiners, abseiling? Have you tried Twitter? I'm not on it but does have its uses in these situations.
-
Ooh, you cynical Saints fan you! 🙂 Wouldn't it be nice to get a thumping win and all the kids get the bug. Don't worry, they'll soon learn like we have..
-
Who remembers Bodo from their O level Geography? Bodo/Glimt are 6-1 up against Roma in the Europa Conference. 😃 Mourinho is working on his excuses and who to blame as I write..
-
Never prepare your tweet in advance! 😆

I'd say he developed Lambert tremendously. He'd never played at the top before (ISTR) and I suspect never took things as seriously as he should, but once he did with us was when he progressed and never looked out of place in the top division (or the national side!).

I don't think any of you are alone in these thoughts. It occurred to me that perhaps KWP is a victim of his own versatility in that he's a great sub to bring on for either full back, whether for energy or injury reasons. I've been mildly surprised it hasn't happened on one or two occasions.

Yes, but I didn't know anything about him and the link I got was exactly the information I was looking for...
-
Cheers, sorry for my laziness but I knew someone would know.
-
Yep, who is the triallist? Presumably the one who played for the seconds against Wolves?
-
If it's Pompey it won't be the Display team.. Anyway, bring back the Romsey Old Boys Band... 🙂 Thanks MLG, I was there but good to see again from a different perspective.

Typo?

It's amazing what a win will do to our morale! I had concerns in the last 10/15 minutes that they'd equalize but that's just my training - if I were being rational and based on the game I was watching I'd have been more relaxed.. A number of minor points. Broja getting cramp hints at why both Albania and Saints' management have been managing his appearances. Elyounoussi seems fitter and more um.. robust which enables him to use his skill more effectively. Diallo also getting stronger and you feel there is more to come. Djenepo and Redmond both frustrate occasionally because you know what they can do, and then they combined wonderfully for the goal to prove the point. Other players all improving too to the extent you wonder how long we'll keep them. Armstrong still not fully fit or sharp but it's great to have him on the way back. Burnley can be right party poopers but I'm now allowing my optimism a freer rein.

Second hand innit.. Caveat emptor..
-
I know, I know, seems odd saying that.. Chuckle.. When does Bruce leave? Who takes over the poisoned chalice?
-
Why? Have you seen him in training?
-
I just love Tella's smile, it makes you want to smile too.

I posted this link elsewhere on Saintsweb but I think it's probably more appropriate to cross-post it here: https://www.theguardian.com/football/2021/oct/14/mike-dean-quiz-premier-league-referee 😀

cUnacceptable inconsistency and appalling standard of referees

Since Mike Dean gets quite a number of mentions here, let's see how you all get on with this quiz :-) : https://www.theguardian.com/football/2021/oct/14/mike-dean-quiz-premier-league-referee -
I don't dispute some of the facts of what you're saying, but I think Victor Orban and the like have more influence on the situation than England fans "stirring up hostility". My comments were more on the one-sidedness of your post in ignoring the Hungarian fans' behaviour, and ignoring _their_ real hatred and violent behaviour. None of it is acceptable.
-
Well, there's a certain degree of accuracy in his statement, don't you think, whatever you may think of the England fan? As opposed to the Hungarian ultras who have total and active contempt for anybody non-white. I've been at England matches both here and abroad and have been embarrassed by our fans behaviour, but in this instance perhaps you could reconsider the only target of your attack?

Wince.. Mind you, Dowie scored a few goals ISTR. Paul Moody from Waterlooville, bless, couldn't fault him for effort though. Lee Powell.. ooof.
-
Blimey! Not sure that's anything about supply though, he made it all himself.

This made me chuckle, the Leicester City fan's comment on the season so far in The Guardian: "What I wouldn’t give to have prime Wes Morgan in that defence. But to be frank, any former centre-back would do."
