I was just skimming the posts and for a very brief moment I went 'sh*t' in the thoughts that that was a list of our injuries...

I haven't seen enough of Jankewitz to comment too much, although the signs were positive, but in the case of Slattery he never quite seemed up to it when he's been given the chance. Certainly Smallbone looked a lot better, particularly with regard to pace and effort, on his last outing. Perhaps there'll be more opportunities when games are won or are less critical. I take what you are saying egg, but we've seen so many players not make it due to poor attitude, or thinking that they'd already made it that some caution on the club's part is understandable.

I don't blame the guy's desire, and perhaps this will get him some game time so that his state of readiness can be truly judged. The issue for the club is one of succession planning and dealing with injuries, as we have seen recently. Perhaps they expect one of the other midfielders to leave in the next year and are biding their time? Who knows? Maybe a start against Wolves in the FA cup and some fresher, more experienced legs to come on later unless he has a blinder? There needs to be good communication between club and player and perhaps this action will show the degree of his discontent.

Ho hum, we're through. Although the kids may not be ready at least they got some much needed experience and in the case of 17 year old Finnigan an unexpected appearance bonus! Thought Watts looked the brightest, but they've all got good technique even if they're not yet up to speed. Valery has gone backwards and seems to have lost all confidence and the conviction to go on the outside. Long, bless, I don't know, hurry up and get his coaching badges? They all need shooting practice on their weaker foot..

This is how I feel. Some defeats leave me really grumpy but not this one for reasons other people have already outlined. Some of the over the top criticism of Stephens makes me think some of you must be getting bad cases of PMT! I also thought the disparaging remarks about Smallbone before the game were unfair too, and I think many of us were pleased at how effective he was and the increased bite he has brought to his game. So on to tomorrow's banana skin and let's hope we have enough fit players and likewise Shrews! We should win, but I'm a long standing Saints fan...

Hmm, once again a very young and inexperienced bench but I think I said that before the Liverpool game as well. Apart from Smallbone the starting line-up is fine and the main reservation I have about him is his physicality. At least Long isn't a starter, so let's hope all our worst fears are not realised!
