If this is what he said then he is caught up in the hype. This time last year he was still fairly unknown to the majority of saints fans and he had not even properly broken into our first team. He has played one season in an excellent league one side. He has a lot more developing to do before he is 'ready' to play in the premier league. What he has to realise is if he signs for a premier league club this summer, he will be a reserve and will probably only feature in cups games. Surely playing in front of 20k plus fans in the championship is better than Arsenal, Liverpool, Man United reserves.

When I was 5 or 6 and first knew about football it was because Man Utd were always on TV (probably why we have so many gloryhunters these days) so supported them. I was soon told at school about my local team Southampton, who some of the lads supported. I told my dad I wanted to support Southampton as they were my local team and duly took me to my first game a few weeks later against Aston Villa in 1998. A certain Mr Matthew Le Tissier scored the first goal and the addiction has stuck ever since.

You cant really say that during the renewal period as obviously we cant go past last years figure. We will know if we have more due to going up when they go on general sale.

Leeds preferred to use the players they owned, Sheffield United couldnt afford his wages and Wolves have only used him as a back up striker, therefore he has not had a long run of games in a side. This makes it unfair to call him crap. Its not that Wolves dont want him either, he is young and has potential, he is hardly going to displace Kevin Doyle at the age of 21 is he.

Goals scored do not determine how good a player is. At wolves he was used as a back up striker and only ever came on as a substitute. At Leeds he was again used as a back up striker, as they prefered to use their permanant players to loan ones. At Bristol City he got injured within 13 mins of his debut. At Sheffield United he played well (as I watched him play for them on several occasions) but again was used as 'an extra option' and didnt get much game time. Due to their financial difficulties, once some of their injured players got fitter they sent Vokes back to Wolves to save money. At Norwich he played 4 games and scored one goal but was recalled by Wolves due to an injury to Kevin Doyle. He has not been able to settle at a club due to a variety of reasons I have outlined above, therefore it is unfair to say he is crap! Having seen him play on a number of occasion I think he would be good competition/back up to Lambert as he is a big targetmen. If Lambert got injured, we currently would not have anyone to fill his shoes so Vokes would fit the mold. The bonus is the fact he is still only 21 and therefore has potential. The extra added bonus is he supports saints but that is not the reason I think we should sign him. God knows why people like you slate players when you clearly know nothing about them.

I really hope we dont sign him. Fat useless waste of space. Played average for Sheffield Wednesday last year and we can do better/aim higher.

Kevin Miller... When he signed I'm sure he had retired and was about to become an accountant or something. He only played about 7 games but I remember he did pretty well.

Not true at all. Bridge signed for Chelsea in 2003, Cole signed for Chelsea in 2006. He signed for Chelsea when Abramovich first took over at Chelsea and Ranieri was manager. I think considering bridge was about 23 at the time and one of the best left backs in the country, signing for Chelsea + the rise in his wages was the right decision. He then got injured towards the end of the 2004/05 season which meant he lost his place in the team to Del Horno. It was then in 2006 that Cole signed and was preferred by Mouriniho. He then played a bit part for Chelsea but did captain the side in 2008/09 for a game when Lampard and Terry were injured. He maybe should have left Chelsea sooner but was anyone willing to pay the money Chelsea wanted for him? probably not.

Personally, considering how long it has been since they said they were offering him a contract. My bet is he isnt getting paid as much as he would like at Saints and therefore his agent has come up with this to turn around to Saints and say 'Come on then, how much do you really want him now Palace want him too, higher wages?'. In which case he can go to Palace, because I think he is dogs dinner anyway.
