Don't disagree with anything Matt says there. It's good to have someone so high profile saying it from a Southampton fan's point of view.

The players will probably think it's nice that we are showing our support to Nige. I think he was popular with them. -
Would be a great move for him, better than some tin pot outfit like Blackpool.
-
There is a possibility that this guy turns out to be a real deal, it does appear he was up against it somewhat at Espanyol so he could have been a good manager in a bad situation. But he could also be an Argentinian Ian Dowie.

I'm not sure but I think we signed Boruc after the deadline. -

Agree with all that except that saying it's supremely unlikely that anything will change with the big 4 is complete nonsense. Rewind 10 years or so and people would be saying you are nuts to include Man City or Chelsea in any sort of big 4. In fact I would say it is a near certainty that one or both of these clubs will end up in financial trouble once their owners have got bored. Football always changes, wether it's us getting stupidly big funding, Chelsea going bankrupt or new rules changing the finances of football or qualification for the CL you can be sure things will change. Thats why it is dumb to say that it's impossible for us to ever get European football.

The club has had many different owners before, it's never been owned and run by the people of Southampton. Lowe was answerable to the plc shareholders, not the fans. If it was up to the fans he would never have got through the door.
-
Disagree, the football club will always be part of, and belong to the city. The people in charge of the company currently running it will soon be gone once they've made their money. If people want to protest they should IMO.

That is meaningless, only one manager from that list took Saints up two leagues and had to stabilise a newly promoted side in the Premier League. The rest inherited a top flight side.

would you rather have had redknapp than Pinocchio?
aintforever replied to Mr X's topic in The Saints
Yes. Redknapp would definitely be less of a gamble. -

That video is the sort of thing that puts me off ever visiting the OS. -
I think 'highly regarded' is football speak for 'achieved f*ck all but has lots of friends'.

If I had to bet my house on it I would say we will go down. This new guy has to hit the ground running or we are relegated. He doesn't know the players, the league or even the language. Teams only usually change managers at this stage of the season if they are desperate. He may be an inspired choice but my gut feeling says spectacular failure.
-
in 2012 his Espanyol side won just seven games out of a possible 35, drawing 11 and losing 17. But he's highly regarded, or something.

Cortese can take his rich backers and f*ck off for all I care.

According to the BBC it was reporters who told him.

According to the BBC Adkins found out he was sacked from reporters. F*cking disgraceful if true.

Get ready for Bulgarians and Romanians coming
aintforever replied to Thedelldays's topic in The Lounge
It's because they work for f*ck all. It's like a race to the bottom. -
Exactly. When we hired Wotte and Poortvleit we had Dutch geezers saying how great they are. Fact is, since he was sacked from Espanyol their results have improved.
-
I'm sorry but what the **** does that mean? His record is average at best and even foreign coaches with exceptional records have failed in the Prem.
-
Or they may think it would show more respect to their father by putting someone in charge who's not coming across like a complete c*nt.
-
To be fair that was Marcus speaking. The rest of the family might think he's a poisonous Italian dwarf who likes sucking up to billionaires.
-
So you made it up then. Cortese might have moved heaven and earth to get Leibherr to buy the club but it's still their money and their investment. They have no obligation to keep Cortese in a job, loyalty is not important remember?
