Yesterday evening I was thumbing through my Facebook and Saints official FB page posted about a programme filmed at the Academy, starting last night. Having gotten bored of the Government circus report on the news I thought I would seek the programme out on iPlayer. If you can get your head past it being a programme aimed at a young audience and live with Alan Carrs narration, it is a very interesting watch. The most striking thing is the ridiculous ability some of the kids have and the level of commitment required to be at Saints Academy. Well worth looking out, especially if you have kids who fancy being a professional footballer. If you are happy watching sanitised football that’s spoilt by endless simulation of being poleaxed when breathed upon, then that’s a shame.If a Saints players physical presence makes an opposition player think twice about going anywhere near that player acting to achieve what’s become the primary objective to win a cheap snidey non free kick then I’m all for a bit of intimidation within the rules. Ultimately it was controlled aggression within the rules, because neither the Ref OR the VAR Ref felt the need to take a closer look at anything

I went to Loftus Road with my boss a few years back - Just nano seconds before Mane rifled in the injury time winner my Boss uttered "here we go" so I was nicely primed not to forget where I was. Last season in the Chapel I had to have word with the bloke behind who was giving supportive comment to the Liverpool players (it was like that bored kid kicking the back of your seat from about the 5th minute) - I just said to remember where you are and where you are sat as having made the effort to get a ticket it would be a shame not to see the whole game.

He even made Ralph laugh when Blackmore mentioned Lyanco post match, normally he supresses positive comments from Blackmore about players notable performances. Good to see the Reducer is not totally lost in todays sanitised game.

Blackmore uttered his name in the post match chit chat on Solent driving home.

That was very good to see - Arsenal players probably commented “jeez even their keeper is a nutter”.

Many Arsenal fans on various online posts bitching about that fact and his leniency towards us. DCC's tussle with Jesus viewed from behind the goal was a bit heart in mouth given how pernickety refs can be, but I think the fact that Jesus final act in the skirmish was to make out he had been thrown to the floor was bordering on the second card for simulation. Lyanco giving Martinelli then Xhaka food for thought when going anywhere near "His corner of Southampton" was quite amusing - he was a lucky boy following the nibble at Xhaka, but fair play Xhaka he stayed on his feet and the ref just gave him a warning. Having some monsters at the back with a bit of grit was good to see. Strange game having started off as Hmmmm we are going to get battered, then some point in the first half Arsenal suddenly seeming to be playing for time and not sure what to do. All in all the performance made the walk back to the car in the rain not too bad....................... once you got all the rain related post match tunes on the PA out of your head. Hey even the half time Crossbar challenge was entertaining, hit not once but twice from the same chap, then the lad who had already come close chipped in too - suddenly the prize budget was blown to smithereens - so that will be back to the relay for the rest of the season.

Probably the easiest vote of the season - Che worked his socks off. Working in Poland a couple of weeks ago flying home from Krakow, the place was overrun with the Tartan Army. Talking to a few of them, they love Che! With the overriding comment “he never stops working”..

Well that’s where consistency goes out the window - I’ve seen the ball hit the ref umpteen times and the team in possession retain the ball from the contact and the ref stop the game regardless.

We are too bloody nice for our own good, watching the West Ham goal, as I thought in the game the ball hits the ref - the game must stop but he plays on - then on MOTD there a bit of bitching about the ref being in the way for Perrauds goal.. Even if Banks wasn't going to over turn it we should have been right in his ear about not stopping the game for his contact.
