  1. Seems Moody has fallen for the Portsmyths as well.
  2. Probably thinking about how Leicester could react if we take it to them. Good teams will adapt if they are under pressure and cannot get the ball forward. let’s see if they do, how good they are and how Saints can still get at them.
  3. Thanks, saw a post when Still said Charles contract negotiations was happening, it was due to end this season- should always check saints web posts! Didn't know about the option for another year for Romeu. Good news.
  4. Charles and Romeu out of contract end of the season.
  5. At least there is enough about Oriol that the captain label doesn’t matter. Can’t say that about others in the squad.
  6. Because there are gaps in his coaching skills. As other interim/inexperienced coaches have proven, it doesn’t always make sense to continue because it’s not best to address some of these gaps and inadequacies while being first team coach. Besides, it’s not just getting the results but a clear indication he can get his message across to the players and the impact he is having is a positive one.
  7. Same as most, I have the VHS somewhere in the house. May have a compact disc version as well! recently saw the highlights of the 3-1 win over the grey shirts and how precise MLTs finish was for his goal. How we missed that over the years.
  8. Swansea were interested in him before, but appointed Sheehan as he did a ‘good job’ as interim manager. That didn’t end well.
  9. It is unclear when Leicester will discover the outcome of this hearing, but many sources claim a final verdict is not expected until the end of this year at the earliest. Appeals could risk the row dragging on into the second half of the season. After rules were amended earlier this year, any sanction – including a points deduction – could be imposed this season with Leicester in the Championship. That uncertainty is threatening to cause great disruption in the chase for promotion. Leicester and the Premier League declined to comment.
  10. It will be interesting to compare Sport Republic against Blue Crow. I don’t know how data driven SR but BC certainly have gone all in: Article here on blue crow how are led by Jeff Ludnow (baseball moneyball).
  11. Yes, been going on for years. There is a whole section on the website, including meeting minutes.
  12. May the odds be ever in your favour.
  13. Well, teams are in the retro phase what with most going with a big centre forward these days. 4-4-2 will be back at some point.
  14. Charlton have the same number of days to prepare, have a Manager in place that has got his team beating other teams with better players than themselves so don’t get your point. Also Jones has a personal motivation to beat us. Odds are with them for a win considering the current state of the two teams. If Saints can win, showing some intent, then fair play on the coach and players. It’ll be something different to what has happened so far in the season.
  15. May as well let the players decide what they have to do for each match if the coach has no or little influence. it would save the effort and money of hiring and firing a manager/first team coach! Cannot see Saints winning at Charlton based on the last two games and the way Charlton have been playing. Charlton are ninth and Saints haven’t beaten anyone in the top half of the table.
  16. Confirmed as Wolves manager. Three and a half year contract
  17. Most managers will have an expiry date for a club, hopefully this appointment will be longer than we recently have, however, I can’t see Eckert bucking the trend. We’re the new Watford! Only down side to Rogers is the team’s defence tend to be weak at set pieces and crosses. Generally good going forward though and I can see him getting this squad to perform better.
  18. The highest placed team saints have beaten is in thirteenth.
  19. This is the issue, it’s not just changing the manager, but one that can change the culture and get a team out of the squad of players to get the points needed for the playoffs. If Romeu is coming in as the enforcer/respect the badge or fúck off type player, the manager needs to be able to make changes for the benefit of the team, not sure if SR will go that far, partly protecting their ‘assets’ and changing the management dynamic. Not that there are many Clough/Strachan types who are around at this level.
  20. From another thread… He was brought in to get better results than Rose, which he didn’t. In his first season he got 2 points more than rose, despite the fact that he had the most influence on our squad from any our previous coaches since he was a squad planner before and then became coach. Let’s look at the results. 3 out of 4 halves of the two seasons were far below average in our terms, only the second half of the first season in the Bundesliga was good. Champions league run was highly lucky, as to the xGa we should have lost PSG and Atlético. So 3/4 of the halves were terrible, why should he get more chances? On top of that, we would have missed the CL for the first time in a long long time due to only placing 5th. Any coach would have been fired for that, rose and Favre got fired for less. Terzic is the neighbor of Watzke and he pretty much didn’t want to kick out his friend. If he was held to the same standards as any other coach, he would have been gone after 6 months. Transfers were horrific. For over 15 years we have had strikers with depth that could threaten the opponent with deep runs and without any necessity, he changed what made us strong the years before. We got Haller, Modeste and Füllkrug, who were lost up front and didn’t have enough speed to pose a threat, hence we had quite a few problems creating chances. The transfers he was involved in mostly flopped. He was unable to integrate any of our big talents. Moukoko, Reyna, Gittens, Adeyemi and all the others did not make a step forward. This creates an issue when we rely on sales to keep our high wages going. So we signed old players and developed no talents anymore, which will hurt us tremendously in 2-3 years. His playing approach is passive. He wants to overplay the midfield area instead of doing what every top club does: make the opponent tired, control the center. Whoever controls midfield, controls the game. He saw it differently. We were number 1 in long passes (>30m) last season. Ahead of Heidenheim, Köln, Darmstadt. More than double the passes than Bayern and Leverkusen in that department. That’s a big issue because you’ll run into counter attacks because our strikers aren’t good enough technically to keep the ball. So instead of controlling the game, we got pure chaos. Uncountable games where we were up 2:0 and lost 2:3. no big club plays like this, yet he didn’t see anything wrong with it. Lastly, he lost the team with his decisions. Our players wanted to play good football and some spilled the beans in interviews. Füllkrug, Brandt, Kobel, Hummels and others. There were issues with terzic when he started giving excuses and blaming losses on the team not following his plan. This is the short version, I could go on longer. It was the most unattractive football I’ve seen from a coach that was there longer than a few months.
  21. Time for a bus driver and coach combo to save a bit of money with Manolo González.
  22. And this is probably the reason why fans are willing Will to come good given his limitations. I would love to know the dynamics of the coaching staff with a couple of experienced coaches and a novice. Also, how much Still is being led by the data rather than illuminated by it.
  23. Fix requires a replacement and for SR, nothing is easy.
  24. Different set of circumstances. The owner has turned them around since coming in a few years ago. There seems to be more to Saints than the manager position as an issue. Still certainly shown to be a limited manager but would have thought many others would also struggle here. SR record has been awful with most personnel appointments.
  25. If it’s that bad, why don’t I see the new lads plus some u21 players bar the essentials (goalie). This is certainly on the management team. Will Still is a decent manager but this situation is beyond him to fix especially if it’s attitude and player/club issue. Would be interesting to know which players are having problems, Downes and THB most likely? What about Edozie and Aribo? Too big a squad to deal with as well.
