From news reports: Rangers’ American owners met the squad yesterday and made plain they had complete faith in Russell Martin, who will not be going anywhere. By mid afternoon, how clever will that look? Part of the intrigue here is that people based in the US do not have to encounter the direct noise of Scotland. It feels easier for them to stick with a beleaguered manager.

Combination so it keeps defenders guessing and different ways to play. Fraser has been a bright spark so far in a testing start to the season. It would be odd to see him go unless it’s a wage saving situation.

What with big clubs hoarding U21s, tempting players to join even at that stage, it’s extremely difficult to try a build a squad to challenge for promotion and then provide a platform to stay up.

This is the pool we’re having to fish in due to relegation and limited funds. I just hope the scouting department is geared up to better find the gems more often than not. Unfortunately the step up to premier league is getting bigger so any promotion would mean a huge outlay to try and stay up.

You have the numbers the wrong way round for Downs. Initial fee is £6.8m. Yes, it still doesn’t make him a first team player yet.

I think the other piece to add is the fantastic youth system Saints had in place at that time. maybe too many players to bin off what with PSR regulations to worry about. No idea, but it would certainly help for a faster reset to move on a number of players that at best would be loaned out.

Can plan all they like but when the squad is too big in the first place, it’s difficult to adjust in the right direction especially when the decent players are leaving as well.
