I agree with you in that IF he were to stay he could do really well with the right service in League 1. If it was my choice I would keep him with us but if he wants gone then I dont see what good it does anyone to big him up. Im sure McGoldrick, BWP, Mule, Patterson and the other nipper who got injured last season when looking promising will do well in league 1 too so its not as if we are desperate for Saga to stay. His wages alone probably set us up better if he does go. Rasiak has been far more prolific for us in his time with us but it seems its Saga that gets the attention???
-
And for the recored when was Saga our best striker? Many including myself wanted him to be number 1 but he only really showed he could be when he was on Loan to us. What has he shown here or anywhere else that puts him so high in your rankings?

LOL I comment on the OS publishing stories about a player that doesnt want to be here and probably wont be here while you "Claim" Lowe wrote the stories on the OS and I have a petty Crusade? Give it up Alps Rupes has gone. Its old news. History. There is no need for this thread to go into that debate so why bother?

Where did the flares come from? Was it our lot or was it out of the away end? Were the reports about Poopy fans being in the away end showing there shirts off true? If some of the above is right then that Burnly guys account of events will probably end up getting retracted. Anyone lobbing coins into a group of people need to be delt with for sure but the police/stewards should have been aware and delt with anyone in the away end giving it the biggun. If Poopy nobs were in the away end stiring things up the police should have just thrown them out and allot of the saints fans would have just had a standard pitch invasion with no trouble. Dont see why we would have any normal rivalry with the burnley lot so there must have been more to it IMO

Did I miss an announcement? the owners present or future might want him to stay but he has said he doesnt want to play league 1 football so he is looking for another club. Kelvin has said he wants to stay so IMO he deserves the support that the OS are giving Saga more. I also doubt that the possible new owners will have been in to see the OS team and let them know to big up saga to try and convince him to stay either. I suppose it kinda shows how little the OS has to do these days. They have to be seen to be doing something but they are probably restricted in the news that they can publish so are stuck with talking about the players that dont want to be here any more.

Hopefull 5 year plan must be Year 1 = Promoted via playoffs Year 2 = Build a promotion team safe mid table CCC Year 3 = Automatic Promotion to Prem Year 4 = Aim for mid table safty Year 5 = Aim for top half table with a push for Europe places Realistic 5 year plan Year 1 = Dont get relegated Year 2 = Playoff places at least and hope for promotion Year 3 = If still in league 1 aim for Automatic Promotion and if in CCC aim for survival Year 4 = Either aim for survival in CCC or aim for playoffs Year 5 = Cant see us in the Prem yet so Aim for automatics or to win playoffs Would be great if the 1st 5 year plan was achievable but there will be many other team that want the same as we do and we have loads of re-building to do to be realistic challengers IMO
-
I thought he wanted off? I dont get why the OS is still putting stories up about him if he wants to be playing somewhere else next season. For many reasons he hasnt done much for us since we signed him up. Now he wants to be gone the OS are seemingly praising him up. Its not like we will get any money for him is it? I thought he was told he can go on a free if he finds a new club.

Those buggers have stollen our OS FFS!

Just a thought but would it not be wise of Pinnacle to talk to more managers than just Wotte? They have heard what he has to say and now they may be sounding out other possabilitys. Doesnt mean they have made a decission. Unless there talk with Wotte was to tell him he is either back in the acadamy or on his bike of course.
-
Ah fair enough. I took it that they had someone set up and a bit further along the road than just an informal chat. But then if it was only a chat to see if there would be interest and if it would be possible then deciding what players should be brought in may also be a bit premature dont you think? To me it doesnt quite make sence, if I owned a football club and I wanted a manager then I would make sure I got him before identifying players he wanted. As going out and picking my own squad then gettting a manager to sort them out would be on a similar lines to the old Rupes picks the team line would it not? Suggesting they know what manager they want says they are planning things but suggesting they know what players they want too suggested they already have a manager set up. Kinda looking at it from both ends IMO. Either way, the sooner it all gets sorted the better
-
Who understands that? the Echo? If we have a new manager coming in I guess he must be out of work or not in the top position elsewhere as I doubt any other club will give a stuff about keeping things quite when they need to replace there top man. Say if we took Tisdale then Exeter no doubt would make a song and dance about it as they would need a replacement ASAP so in my book that rules him out. WGS is out of work but surely he is out of our league. Dowie is a strong possability I suppose as I dont think he was contracted to past the end of the season with the toon and if Shearer stays there not many will notice the ugly one leaving. If they have decided on a new guy I dont get how they can also have identified players to come in. The new guy wont even have assessed the squad to know what he needs and what he can keep so its a tall order to come in with a shopping list prepared already isnt it? As for the violence, didnt it all get escelated because of poopy fans in the away end showing there colours? I know it doesnt condone it but if our fans are going to get punished for violent behaviour then so should those that incited violence IMO. If they were there that is.
-
To be fair he has a few points. The new owners wont get as much room for mistakes if they have any of the previous failures on board giving there tuppance worth. Crouch oversaw the club while the overdraft got mullered (not putting the blame on him just saying) so as far as a new start goes the new owners would probably do better to go on without any of the previous board.
-
I think you have just summed up why I would be OK with Wotte getting a season. I think he would do well enough to keep us up and stabalise us for 1 season. Brining in someone like Tisdale then would give him and us a decent spring board to go off. Bring in Tisdale now and do bad and the new lot will just carry on the merry go round of managers that Lowe started,
-
Not disagreeing with you but IF Wilde or Lowe had stumped up some money to bank role the club the last few months (like they bloody well should have!) would they then get the same treatment? I know Lowe has made more mistakes than the others but since the merry go round started they have all had there fair share of mistakes and if they are going to be judged purly on the wedge they put in then is buying a place on the board the way forward? Crouch IMO has shown the other toss pots what they should have been doing as Shareholders of a club thats going down the toilet. That doesnt make Crouch the Uber Shareholder that some make out but it shows how the other 2 have skulked off washing there hands of the club. Well done Crouch for doing what I think all the shareholders should have done but I dont see how doing that will help us move forward if he is still on the board. Please go back to being a fan and remebered fondly for doing the right thing in the end.
-
Like what he done in the 11th hour for the club but think we would be better off without any of the last bunch being involved. It will only take 1 sniping comment from crouch about him still being there when the others are gone and it could keep the old battles going on and on. Its a shame really cause what he did for the club at the end is near enough worth getting his picture in the board room instead of the train

Wotte's job offer, Surman bid, Rasiak to go cheaply

This is getting into a dodgy argument really. I think you both agree Pearson should have been given the chance this season and he quite possibly would have done better than JP and Wotte. You obviously dissagree with why Pearson got the push and JP got the nod for last season but to be fair that has been done to death and is not really relative any more. This thread is supposed to be about the possible players going out and Wotte hanging about to find out if he has a future with us. Its got side tracked into last seasons debates and I am just as guilty of taking it that way as anyone else. Would we be happy if any of last seasons players that under performed were still with us next season and would we be prepared to give Wotte a chance next season should the new owners decided to give him 12 months? I cant say I would be thrilled if we start next season with the same squad but I dont know what position we would be in to build a new saints team either. Ive said before that I would understand a decission to give Wotte a further 12 months and would be interested to see what he could do with support from above and a free reign to pick a team of available players. Think I would be more excited however to see a load of new faces from top to bottom. -

All fair points IMO. I personally think we would have done better this season had we kept Pearson but I dont think he showed anything to suggest that with this seasons resources he would have done anything amazing. Keeping us up again would have been a massive achievment so hindsight shows the gaff that was made. Shiit happens though so we shall move on. -

tbf I think 19C was suggesting that had we gone into admin at around the same timescales last season as we did this season then Pearson would have probably not been able to see us safe. its quite likly the team's work and confidence would have been shot to shiit and we would have finished in the bottom 3. we only just scraped through without the threat of admin so if that had been a factor it would not be suprising if we went the same way. dont think i have seen anyone suggest we would have gone down this season had we kept pearson. Personally I think we would have also avoided admin as we would have possibly played better, won more and kept a better gate. -

thats what i was thinking. i doubt it will matter how rich the new owner is or isnt becuase this season will be run on a tight budget. the players that think they are CCC players have proved for the last 2 seasons that they are far from it so it would be nice to think we can choose who we keep and who we ship out. add to that a few choice buys and we should be ok even if fan the flames were to be our next manager. I will be amazed if we get any decent offers based on the potential our players once had though. -

FFS I didnt say I wanted this to happen. I was just trying to explain why I would understand if the new owners stuck with Wotte for a season. I think he can do better than he has shown with a different situation at the club. I would be more than happy if he gets replaced with just about anyone as long as they get the support from the top that has been lacking for years. The longer it takes to replace him though the harder the new man will find things and as we are so supportive of the club when things go bad the less time he will have before the fans turn on him. -

OK lets say in 3 weeks time Pinnacle get there mystery man in. within a week they have put a new manager in place. Take your pick at who cause it doesnt matter much at this stage. That manager then has to evaluate the squad (whats left of it) identify new players, get pre-season sorted and the team fit and then start a tough season on -10. get any of that wrong and his head will be called for half way through the season as we will be facing yet another relegation. So IMO I would rather that be Wotte as he is more expendable when looking at our long term future. He has a head start in knowing the team and what we are likly to be without and what we are likly to need. He has a better chance of seeing us safe when we can then get a manager of choice in while giving him enough time to prepare for the following season on equal points. If and yes its a big IF, he does exceptionally well then he may earn the right to continue but I would say he would have to get a playoff place at least from -10 to earn that. So if we have a clear out the sooner it happens the better the chances of the new person, but this take over is dragging out a little so I dont hold much hope for any new people coming in. With us lot baying for blood its going to be even harder. -

I was refering to when JP left and matt was nout to do with a take over and neither was the mystery man. We hardly had many options so can understand why Wotte took over. As for now, anyone Matt or anyone else brings in will have a short space of time to get things sorted and then try to make next season look like we achieved something. not an easy task for anyone which is why if Wotte gets the nod for a season it wont do anything to damage the next managers chances should things not get any better. -

But to be replaced with by who? We all know the state of the finances now so I dont see who we would of been able to afford that could have done better at that stage? In hindsight we would have kept Pearson and maybe he would have got us playing better and winning games which therefor kept the gates up and the bank happy. But thats allot of Ifs to go on. -

Does that include all the players too? Some of those kids were championed by Lowe and only got there chance because of his revolutionary set up so I guess we should just scrap the acadamy too? -

Im not niieve enough to think Wotte had nothing to do with the 1st half of the season but as I said previously I read the "management team" differently than some others. IMO the "team" consisted of all management in the club and they were all there to assist the 1st team manager however they could. That again IMO does not mean there ideas/decissions directly effected the 1st team. The changes were obvious when Wotte took charge so unless he was feeding naff ideas to JP its hard to see how JP was following anyone but his own ideas. I do admit though that they were brought in together so should have been singing from the same song sheet and as such they both share the blame for the outcome. The main reason behind my thinking of stability now is if the new owners take 3 weeks to get there feet in the door, then they dont have much time to get someone in before the season starts. and as such that person wont have much time to change things to his way of thinking ready for a half decent pre-season. we are up againsts it with -10 already and the only realistic talk about our team is who is on there way out. lets face it, for the last 2 seasons we have had a team that deserved to be league 1 at best and we are getting ready to start league 1 with an even weeker team than the past couple of years. So a new person coming in will have a mamouth task to achieve anything reasonable this coming season which is why the small head start Wotte has got might see us better off for this coming year. Its all well and good putting on the red and white glasses thinking we will aim for play offs but some major work needs to be done to the club and team for this to become realistic. If Wotte gets a year and does nothing more than see us safe then I doubt the new owners will keep him on. If he gets us to playoffs or within reach then he will have shown he is better than last seasons results and may deserve a further contract. Its not going to hurt the club to keep him for a season is it?
