Southampton 1 - 1 Leyton Orient - Post match reaction

It is clear Pardew has no plan B, but you can bet that Cortese has!... -
It should be well above 25K and the highest attendance in the division on Saturday. Spare a thought for the blue few down the M27, league above us, first home game of the season v Reading (so bit of a 'derby' with a lot of travelling away fans), show of unity and all that, and they get around 16K! They truly are the greatest...

Considering the above, I tend to agree with Alpine on this matter. The Leibherrs are old school, and there may in fact be another family member who moves to become the family's Saints figurehead after the dust has settled. It would not make any financial sense to sell whilst we are in Division 3, a proposition far to risky for many 'potential' investors...

I think that it is obvious from AP's comments (including those in the Echo today) that Saints have been priced out of a deal for Antonio. The problem Saints are going to have is finding players that can make the transition from Div 3 to Div 2 and still be useful additions, players like Lambert and Fonte, and this can't be done on the cheap...

Amazing deal for Bellamy, is he a Cardiff fan? Some good points above about the trickle down effect, particularly with us in Div 3. Our first 11 when all fit, is very good indeed, the fear is that having let so many players go if injuries kick in we are in big trouble. Looks like Vassell is off to Leeds...

I don't think ML's untimely death will have an immediate impact on the financial policy within the club (budgets will have been set and funds allocated), it's the long term effect that is of possible concern, but who knows. In recent weeks discussions on here were focussing on the relationship between AP and NC, so you have to ask whether this is a 'reason' for a lack of transfer activity or whether Pardew, good to his word, is waiting for the end of the window to come into view to pressurise (better) players and moreover agents. I think that in the situation you have to take the manager at his word and expects a bit of a flurry as the window draws to a close - for my money a target man, midfield general on permanents and a couple of impact player style loans...

Just look at Jelle Van Damme...

I'd like to see us batter them. A clear message of (delayed) intent is needed...

Who should we get in as Lambert's back up?
Miltonaggro replied to modern matron's topic in The Saints
Think Howard would be a good shout, 6'3 so a big target man who can be a right handful on his day (as we found out to our cost under Burley). Also good at holding the line and holding up play so Connolly and Barnard would be good foils. Must be getting on now, so could be up for a final hurrah and a decent short term deal. Failing that Dowie doesn't seem to be doing much these days... -
Markus Liebherr RIP. All tributes here please.

Speechless really, what can one say; one of the very last gentleman philanthropists, a good man who enjoyed saving a great club. I hope that his far too brief tenure at SFC gave him some genuine pleasure and that he felt the very real gratitude and affection of his fellow Saints fans. Sincere condolences to his family. This season, our 125th anniversary season, has to be for Marcus Leibherr... -
Lol! Vectis, if you know someone with tits like that!...

Don't think anyone would ever miss Lowe FF (perhaps his mater), it seems to me that the problem is having been given a genuine gilt edged golden opportunity to unite and rebuild the club as a beacon of all that is good in football, NC is managing to disenfranchise football fans inside and outside of the club. Thank goodness for ML our saviour, but I hope that what we are seeing from NC is a learning curve. English football differs from Swiss merchant banking both culturally and in terms of media scrutiny. An apt analogy is bobby v speed camera, in that some decisions are best dealt with via consideration of discretionary human factors that cannot be addressed robotically regardless of 'the law'...

That was worthy of Oscar Wilde! That's what i was referring to earlier!...

Gordon Brown isn't doing much at the moment...

bit populist, and always wondered why he stayed at Cranfield (odd choice for an academic historian), but that said he can ride a horse...

I signed up to the Cortese diet last month (£19.99 including free action sash headband) and I haven't lost any weight, despite sticking to the regime to the letter. I intend to write a stiff letter to the Echo, on cardboard. Just a never ending diatribe of error...

I reckon NC might...

Dear Alpine, your 'last recourse of a scoundrel' line has just renewed my faith in this site - we need a more Victorian structure to debate on this board, less 'stupid ****' and more 'slippery mountebank'! Good show...

Don't think Simon Sharma and David Starkey will be sh*tting themselves if they drop by...

The main feeling being expressed over this situation seems to be disappointment with a degree of sadness, and it's a great shame that one game into the 'promotion' season we have our backs to the wall in both the league and in the media. This policy seems utterly counter-productive and the product of looking for things to tinker with. If SFC were an unstoppable juggernaut in the Premier League knocking teams down 4-0 every week with NC and AP riding high there may be a justification in adopting a 'we don't care' ethos. Right now serious further investment in playing staff is needed, not a furore over a few hundred quid on photographs when most national papers don't print photographs of division three sides anyway! Perhaps we should all turn up tonight with our pocket cameras?...

JDLN got it right, after so many years of being run down by no-mark 'businessmen' (starting with Askham and ending with Lowelife) the expectation of Saints fans is that a fall is just around the corner. If the team that turns up today is the team that finished last season there is not an awful lot to worry about. It's obvious that we badly need cover, particularly in midfield, which needs to be addressed within the next couple of weeks - or sooner depending on what happens this afternoon. If NC is true to his word of aiming for the Premiership pronto there has to be continual investment, but the last thing we need is a load of decent but limited third division players on long contracts in the Championship. It's hard being Mini Real Madrid...
