I think what Armstrong, BBD and Archer provide is a lot of fluidity and movement so hard for oppo to pick up and defend against. Combine that with our new Japanese fullback who can cross and pass at pace, plus hopefully wee man and things could be interesting.

Beyond the obvious names, Dave Watson as a kid, then Koeman when he was coming in as manager - I was a centre back as a youngster, my old man had played at a high standard and those two were the two he told me to watch, heroes both. Remarkable that the best we have looked as a defensive unit under Martin was when he was forced to dispense with his 'technical transformation' in the play off games. In this sense a 'conventional' goalkeeper certainly helped to get us promoted, quite a few fans are currently of the view that we now need a better conventional goalkeeper to stay up. If Martin tries to overthink survival in this league we are toast.
