The big problem is that despite the horrors of last season and the fact hes clearly lacking in confidence, Bazunu's position in the team is under very little threat. McCarthy is no good (and hopefully will be shipped out soon) and Jo Lumley is the definition of a squad filler. He's still very raw and will make mistakes like every keeper does, but we dont have the depth to take him out of the firing line if required.

We could be looking at a mass overhaul at CB, not that I'd be complaining given todays calamity. ABK close to joining Dortmund. I'd also be surprised if Lyanco is still here given the fact he was 99% out the door before and was among the crowd who certainly didnt endear themselves to RM with his performance during the week. Also recall there has been plenty of interest in Bednarek so no guarantee he stays. Stephens with his new contract and captaincy is the only guarantee to be here this season. Dont want to be relying on Charles to play there either. Could be needing 3 CBs before the window closes

Think the same was said the summer they bought Brooks, Ibe Solanke, Mepham etc. All good young players on paper but didnt do it at PL level and eventually resulted in relegation

I think 30m is a fair deal. We maybe could have held out for 35m on deadline day, but we were never getting 40m for a 29yo just relegated. I think there is a bit of leeway with JWP in terms of us wanting to max our return from sales, as opposed to say Lavia. JWP has given us great service and if a deal comes up that is just short of what we want, then I'm sure the powers that be were happy to accept. In needs reinvested now. I see that Swansea are about to sign Charlie Patino on loan from Arsenal so I'm wondering if that will prompt any sales from them. Bringing in Downes and Grimes (and Charles) would be a sufficient return in letting JWP and Lavia leave. Badly need a striker or two - I dont think Adams will be here come September and I'm definitely not convinced Mara has 20+goals in him this season
