You have ignored the fact that I have called what you did childish, and ignored me trying to reasonably explain why what you have done is something you should reconsider. Also, if your post is neutral, and you are not, then you're not even posting your own actual opinion, so how the fuck is anyone meant to understand you. Post your actual opinion, or simply just stop with this ridiculousness altogether. Glad to see diatribe is your word of the day, but I don't think my post to you was particularly attacking? Time to step down from that high horse
  2. I'll happily be a new sample then. I've definitely disagreed and agreed with @Turkish on various subjects, and with you also, so can be quite certain I don't have an agenda. The thread Turkish started is one of respect and one where many members of this forum have shared personal experiences. To then decide to come onto a seperate thread and unpick his wording is childish, overly critical and unneccesary. You may think what you are doing is clever because you've somehow caught him out, but to the rest of us it comes across as being anal. You may not have mentioned the thread by name, or remarked on Ronaldo's circumstances, but that doesn't mean what you have done can be considered in a completely seperate sphere. You have also said yourself to be neutral on the matter, which is frankly bizarre given the individual lost a very young child. Any decent human would show some empathy or sympathy. What you have done on this thread comes across as being childish and cold, and if I were you I would reconsider carrying on this.

  4. Good player but not sure where he fits for us, can't see him with Romeu or JWP as part of that 2, and not sure he does the job ahead of that. Good option to have though if we can afford him on the bench. Was only saying recently, he reminds me of David Prutton and Richard Chaplow (not in play style), not sure if he is a centre mid or a right mid!
  5. This is painful to read, you're arguing different things here to be honest. XG is a good useful metric. It allows an individual chance to be given a value, by which you can measure if a team has created what should be considered good chances of scoring a goal. Under this measure Chelsea created chances worth 4.4 goals. There might be occasions where we have let teams create more chances expected to lead to a goal. What XG doesn't tell you is whether a specific striker in a specific instance should have finished their chance. This is because there obviously isn't enough of a dataset to work with. Even someone who has taken as many shots as say Cristiano Ronaldo hasn't shot enough to even have a useful dataset. If you try and use stats and metrics to explain things they aren't designed to cover the result will always be flawed. What the above doesn't include is how easily Chelsea were able to make the chances, and have players in space high up the pitch. The chances they had were good, and so 6 goals is quite a reasonable return for them. We were shit.
  6. It depends on what statistical model you use. If you're looking at an xG site where each shot is taken into isolation then it doesn't factor in those. But you can look at the passage of play as a whole, and aggregate the xG of the previous shots with the final shot. I've heard it discussed on a tactics podcast/seen it on the athletic (can't remember exactly where). Essentially you aggregate the shots, so in that instance the likelihood of Chelsea scoring one of the 3 shots is very high. Also, xG is exactly for what you say above, if someone gets in the way of a shot, or a keep makes a worldy save, that doesn't effect the xG. It just shows how good the save was, or how important the block was. If we have a chance that is 0.7xG because it is essentially a tap in, but the keeper makes an exceptional save, then the stat shows how important that save was.

This week they talk about free kicks and include lots of interesting statistics on the number of free kicks taken, percentage scored, and percentage on target. They do sadly then talk about whether JWP would be suited for a top 6 team.

  10. I have seen something but can't think where, about the amount Ronaldo has taken and missed. JWP does have great consistency, and the number of games shouldn't matter too much when you think for the first half of his Saints career other players were taking them (Lambert, Tadic etc)

  13. Seen this doing the rounds and it is a bit frustrating. Trophies aren't a good way of judging individual talent, both players were part of successful teams and won trophies, Bale's team just won more. By that same metric David Peach and Bobby Stokes were better players than MLT... Beckham had 51 assists in 159 games for RM, an assist every 3.1 games. Bale has 67 in 256, so an assist every 3.8 games. Ronaldo had 103 goals in 177 games for RM, a goal every 1.7 games. Bale has 106 in 256, so a goal every 2.4 games. Bale has been great at times, don't get me wrong, but this is the wrong way to make this point.
  14. This feels like a bit of an unnecessary thread. The chance being discussed is a low XG, because of the direction AA approaches the ball from (not angled towards goal) and the wide angle he is at the goal from (https://fbref.com/en/expected-goals-model-explained/) Of course, as a premier league striker he will be disappointed to have not scored, as we all were that he didn't. That doesn't mean though, that he didn't play well (pressed very effectively) or that any other strikers we have would have scored it. Broja hits a lot of shots from similar positions into the side netting. As for the more recent contents of this thread, surprised it has lasted this long before a moderator realises it is essentially bullying an individual.
  15. There were massive contrasts in crown noise yesterday. We were very loud going into half time, and still at 2:1 down, while they were still pretty quiet there. Both sets of fans were so quiet at one point at 3:1 that I could hear Ralph, not a good sign.

  17. In light of the recent resurrection of a thread claiming Ralph should F Off, I was considering my own history of bad opinions relating to Saints. I think it would give us all a sense of clarity to get these off our chests and move past them. My personal regret is my unmoving opinion in the late 2000's that Simon Gillett was the perfect partner for Schneiderlin and would help us roar through the leagues. Didn't quite pan out like that...

For Fantasy Premier League players it is gameweek 25, which includes the match between Man United and Brighton, despite the games being in a separate calendar week to the first they played, and in the same week as another games they both respectively play that is in a separate gameweek. It all just makes too much sense, the table is so easy to read and everyone knows exactly where we are in the season
  20. In an attempt to get this back on track... I would stick with the same team as started on Saturday but swap in Stephens for Bednarek. Stuart Armstrong has to start for me, he and Moi really look like the best fit for the roles they're being asked to play at the moment, tucking in more and playing as 10's rather than wide midfielders, allowing the full backs to overlap.

  23. Also seems like the ref ignored the prospect of it being a head injury, he follows play and looks back over his shoulder to see Broja still on the ground holding his head. Thought the rules, because of player safety, are to stop the game and allow treatment in that situation?

  25. Every game seems to be either Portsmouth or Ipswich this season! Looks like we do have some real quality in the squad, and wouldn't be out of our depth up a division
