  1. Quite a strong squad in the end, given what we could have been putting out, but we'll likely struggle still against the other franchise teams. Will be interesting to see Orr get some proper game time, Dawson is in there and Howell and Fuller so we do have experience. Sonny Baker is included too so an early chance to see what we've gained there. 2 overseas players tbc apparently.
  2. Think there is likely to be a major overhaul of the squads in the women's game, and I can see other players moving around just as much as those we are losing. There is also a bit of an oddity where some players were contracted last year to a county for the regional level but played for the franchise area team, but that county is now one of the 8 selected. The example I have is Rhianna Southby who was a Surrey player, but also Vipers, so will assumedly now return to Surrey again but at a level up.
  3. Interesting that Vince already had that locked in. Wonder who else might not be available, I know a few last year went to Australia for their summer and Dawson often gets a few franchise gigs too.
  4. I think he looked best last season when he played right wing, but realistically was an inside forward playing off someone else. That worked well last season with KWP playing so high on the right, especially when we did shift to a back 5. I think we could get the same out of him this season, with Sugawara playing high outside him, and Archer playing more through the middle.
  5. Chris Baird is one for me, should have been playing in place of Telfer/Nilsson in 04/05 and then seemed to be played out of place in the championship before becoming a bit of a rock for Fulham over a number of years. Not a flashy player but dependable and an asset we never made the most of, at a time when we couldn't ever defend. Kevin Danso is probably a similar one, where we played him out of position and didn't get the best of him. Nathan Dyer another who we didn't give as much time to as we could and went on to prove himself for Swansea Juanmi seems to have had a successful career either side of his time with us, but that seems to be down to him suiting the Spanish League better.
  6. A joint appointment with Danny Rohl, also doing well with limited resources (and a defence including Valery) at Sheff Weds. See if between them they can bring the positive tactics we saw under Ralph
  7. I wonder how much of a factor it is that he's already gone once and come back. If he's already seen the grass isn't greener, and Saints can already offer him life changing amounts, there might not be a rush from the player or inner circle to go elsewhere
  8. Tella on the bench for Leverkusen and Romeu played for Girona. The squad we had at the end of the 20/21 season is quite a mixed bag looking back
  9. Thought he did alright yesterday when he came on, and showed he should have taken the penalty on Saturday really. Still not quite his best though, he had one moment where he drove well off the left, worked himself some space on the edge of the box, and hit it straight into the keeper. Needs to be finding the form to bury that sort of chance, or at least work the keeper beyond a simple save.
  10. Agreed on point 1, all form a team has built up goes out the window and you have to start again. And somehow, it's also back to the county championship again today. Taking Warwickshire as an example, in the last calendar month they've had players play in England tests, will have players in the England T20 this week, county champ, one day cup, blast and hundred. It is crazy!!
  11. Sounds very pleasant! I assume Beefy's at the Hilton is the only acceptable location for such a meal. Will be interesting to see which Vipers players not contracted to Hampshire make the move over. A real hit for the other counties, essentially removing them from the picture.
  12. You are just living the dream aren't you, just a casual lunch with the Hampshire big dogs! It will be interesting to see how much movement there is between squads. Durham don't currently have a top team, so it will be interesting to see where they create a squad from
  13. Piece on the Athletic with each team's "strongest 11 for the season" Ours is McCarthy, Sugawara, TBH, Stephens, KWP, Downes, Smallbone, Alcaraz, Arma, BBD and Mara. Mara playing as a left winger seemingly. I would not be happy with that 11 starting the first game of the season.
  14. An odd one for me, but I was very excited when we signed Hojbjerg. At the time, I'd heard he was highly rated at Bayern and thought he would come in and be brilliant in our midfield
  15. My concern from Saturday was that we seemed to play with everyone very wide, and no direct threat from anywhere. At points, BBD and Arma were the widest players on the pitch, and nothing was being offered through the centre.
  16. Out of our hands now to make it past the group stage, have to rely on other results. Probably overall a season to forget, but hopefully one we can build from. Some promising youngsters and a bit of a re-stock of oversees players could lead to a better season next year
  17. Getting the JPT band back together with him and Lallana, anyone got contact details for a Mr Waigo? Is Paul Wotton the exact sort of cover we need for Downes (tough tackling combative midfielder with experience)
  18. An interesting step for English cricket, but I think others will follow suit in due course, particularly those with Hundred franchises attached. Will be interesting to see how much input they have, and what changes. I can't remember who owns the Hilton building, but it will be interesting to see if this leads to development of the open sides of the ground now. I don't think Hampshire Capitals works as a team name, or Southern Capitals...
  19. Surely worth the question to see whether they want to send us one of Sanchez, Lavia, Casadei, Chukweuemeka or Fofana on loan to us.
  20. I knew this would be on here, having seen the open letter on the Daily Echo, which is about as insightful as their regular journalism. What an odd thing to be wound up by
  21. Vasconcelos doing us a favour so far by letting the run rate rise back up, but they do have plenty of wickets in hand so I'd expect him to start playing some shots soon
  22. Don't know much about Robinson, what should we expect from him, anyone know?
  23. A very apt winning number of 76!
  24. We seem to be building the England u-23 squad, with Gregory, Bourne and Stenson all in the most recent squad (with our Rendell, Kendall and Pike). Odd that we now have two goalkeepers from the England setup, wonder if this is prepping for Rendell moving on
  25. Definitely something to improve on, Neser was a good player but nothing outstanding, McDermott adds value as a keeper but has been fairly awful with the bat. Seems as though we won't see Baartman at all, and Ul-Haq's "Personal Circumstances" are actually him going to earn some cash in America instead
