Mohammed Salisu - Official: Signs for Monaco
Fabrice Fernandes no.1 fan replied to Dusic's topic in The Saints
I'd replace him with a centre back who doesn't dive into challenges from behind in the box, he's given away multiple penalties with the exact same foul -
I'd thought this, maybe a team in Europe who need squad depth for league matches, because they'd be able to afford his wages, but aren't outlaying a substantial fee for someone who wouldn't have a re-sale value. Then if we aren't promoted, we look to move him on.
-
Hard to play for Liverpool and Blackburn at the same time though, that is like saying Tella isn't a good player because he hasn't been good enough to get into our attack this season...
-
Think we would want a sizeable sum too, but actually that wouldn't be the worst deal. If they signed Lavia that would block Morton's chances of playing for Liverpool, and he's just had a good season with Blackburn. He has a really good passing range and would do the job as a 6 in Martin's passing plans really well. On Lavia, I've seen fans of every big team wanting him, think we really can be getting a big chunk for him.

All you have to do is look at our strikers since promotion, at age 21 Lambert was playing in midfield for Stockport in League 1, Jay-Rod was on loan at Barnsley, Pelle was playing in the third tier in Italy, Austin was playing for Swindon in League 1, and Ings was playing his first full season in the Championship. None of those would have been players we'd want to sign, or thought they'd be good enough at that age. Sometimes players take a bit longer to mature and we need to be mindful of that too

Saints 4-4 Liverpool - Match Thread
Fabrice Fernandes no.1 fan replied to Yorkshire Saint's topic in The Saints
I reckon don't name a team, just JWP as a farewell, but do a lucky dip of seat numbers to pick the other 10. Anyone with a season ticket this year has suffered enough, let them have a run on the pitch instead to live out a childhood fantasy. It won't exactly make the loss any larger and it would be much for fun for the rest of us watching big Alan who plays for a pub side kick the shit out of Van Dijk for 90 minutes. -

Also helped by the lack of VAR next season, so some of these early runs where he scores offside might actually count -

Marian Pahars and Michael Svensson are unlikely to be fit for the start of our championship season -
Good assist too. Would be good to have him and a few others feature a bit more for the u23s next year, but most important for him is consistent football and finding his favoured position in the team. I've seen him play on the left, right, as a 10 and as part of a front two.

A beautiful sky blue backdrop to reflect the fact that all our players either have their heads in the clouds or have been on the beach the last six months
-
I'd expect him to get a loan move to a bottom-half prem team next season, slowly work his way up to United. Odd because he has played matches in Serie A at a much younger age
-
We've announced our retained player list; leaving are Georgie Freeland, Phoebe Williams, Ella Pusey, Beth Lumsden Some staple names from the first 11 and bench this season, hopefully they all find teams and carry on playing. Look forward to seeing our plans to replace them, particularly Pusey who still looked our best striker at points this season.
-
Which really is how we should be playing, Lavia seems to be that sort of player, but we haven't made the most of it. And it isn't like Brighton have particularly technical defenders either, they use Lewis Dunk as one of them after all! I do think we need a new style of football more akin to being on the front foot next season. Last time we were in the championship we had quite attacking line ups, with 4 attackers on the pitch at times, so hopefully we replicate that. I'm hoping for an appointment straight after the season ends, so we can have a joined up approach to pre-season, transfers and pushing on next season.

11 seasons in the Premier League - Best Moments
Fabrice Fernandes no.1 fan replied to melmacian_saint's topic in The Saints
Our first win back in the league against Villa was special, we'd had moments before that but for me that game showed me that the players we had could do some real damage that season, especially Lambert and Lallana 3:0 against Vitesse at home was another, a brilliant victory and we made it look easy. Was before the start of the season and it genuinely looked like a pre-season friendly but in reality it was actual proper European football at St Marys for the first time in years. In terms of players, we've seen some absolutely brilliant performances. Tadic absolutely pulling Sunderland apart in the 8:0, Mane dominating Klopp's liverpool at home, and JayRod's purple patch before his injury all stay with me. -
We could try our luck with Gunn round 2, we've already broken him why not a second time around

Forest 4-3 Saints - Match Thread
Fabrice Fernandes no.1 fan replied to Turkish's topic in The Saints
This game sums our season up again! We knew they'd counter attack, and we let them leave a big man up top un-bothered to bring the ball down and they had great runners off of him. If only we'd signed players in January capable of that and then actually played them together... ABK really hasn't had a good run recently, he made their number 9 look like Haaland 1/5th of our league goals this season came in two games (Spurs and Forest) and we got 1 point from them. -

Jose Fonte to return next season (Twitter Rumour)
Fabrice Fernandes no.1 fan replied to Esher Saint's topic in The Saints
Very much anecdotal, but I remember a league cup game, the season before he left when he was on the bench. We were 2-1 up but slightly hanging on towards the end, so he was "warming up" all the way through to 90 minutes. In reality, he was stood shouting, waving and generally coaching the team alongside the coaches. I don't know why it stuck with me, but it just gave me the impression he really wanted to lead our squad that season and we did very well. Then he went to the Euros, and everything seemed to go downhill from there. -
End of season awards night and lap of appreciation
Fabrice Fernandes no.1 fan replied to Paul Chuckle's topic in The Saints
I think it might just be a sign that this season has really got to me, but his use of "Prowsey" twice in one tweet makes me feel nauseous. He's not your mate. The club will find a way to angle a photo of Selles in front of the stairs when it is queueing to leave so it looks like a full block is applauding him. -
I don't really get the hate for him, he seems to absolutely love playing football, has time for all the fans, even though it was clear he would leave Villa he put his all into them and left with respect. He's clearly not a very bright individual but he seems to overall not be a bad guy.

Saints 0-1 Cherries - Match Thread
Fabrice Fernandes no.1 fan replied to SotonianWill's topic in The Saints
One of the poorest displays I've seen from us for most of the match. Bournemouth are a distinctly average team but they know their roles, they seemed to all be a yard quicker than us and seemed to be winning every aerial challenge. Didn't think McCarthy did anything to show he shouldn't be playing each week, he was a bit slow for their goal to get down but he has our whole defence between him and their attacker so you'd hope someone would block it or put a challenge in before then. He wasn't the best on the ball but he never has been. The defence were shit, I cannot believe the defender I trust most and who seems to care the most is Bednarek, that really sums up what a horror show this season has been. Swapping to 5 at the back at half time killed us, it meant we relied too much on Lyanco and DCC to bring the ball out from the back and neither of them looked like they wanted to at any point, and they can't pass. So frustrating to see us have the ball at the back, Bednarek play it wide to DCC only for him to plod a few paces forward, be closed down and then turn it back. We need to learn to pass quicker. KWP, Perraud and AMN all had games to forget really. Lavia looked his usual good self. I cannot fathom how we start with the forward players we do. Elyounoussi and Alcaraz did the exact same thing, received the ball, turned, and either passed it to a Bournemouth defender or turned back. Walcott looks like he's done, he made a good few runs, but he's too slow now to do that, so either he goes early and is offside or he doesn't have the pace to then beat his man. Armstrong pressed well, but he can't dribble or finish, so basically he's as effective as the fake rabbit greyhounds chase when they race. Bringing Lyanco on was dumb. We invited more pressure by dropping deeper, and gave them the midfield. The change should have been Stu, or Adams, with a re-shuffle of a system that wasn't necessarily working, but was at least not reliant on DCC to progress the ball. So frustrating to see us finish the game with a front three who could have made a difference early in the game. Sulemana is our only attacker who has pace to beat people, Adams can actually hold the ball up and score (albeit brutally close offside) and Stu knows how to take a player on, or at least give the ball and run into space! Instead we play Armstrong who can't beat a man, Alcaraz who doesn't hold the ball up and Walcott who just turns play back to his full back. Selles might be a good bloke who helped Ralph and the players liked him, but they're so clearly not playing for him anymore. We need a fresh start with someone who can use the pre-season to reset and allow us to play attacking football. We haven't looked like scoring a goal from open play or a counter attack for about 2 years now, aside from Broja. I thought the sorry state of yesterday evening was encapsulated by the full time whistle. Most of the players were head down straight off the pitch, and only Adams, Stu, Lavia and AMN even acknowledged the fans. There are no leaders in this squad, no-one to take a game to an opposition, and no-one I'd trust to win any more games this season. I'm glad we're not going into the last few games with any hope. In 2005 I genuinely thought we could beat Man U on the last day and stay up, this year's squad probably couldn't even beat the 2005 Man U squad now, even in their 40s. -
Romeo Lavia - Official: Signs for Not Liverpool
Fabrice Fernandes no.1 fan replied to Saint Garrett's topic in The Saints
He really is absolutely different class. The amount of times our centre backs blasted balls into him and he turned his way out of trouble and up the pitch was very impressive. Really frustrating to see him fouled so cynically so many times, Bournemouth seemed to know if they brought him down early they wouldn't get a yellow and it wouldn't help us, and boy did it work for them. -
And in 2005 we had players who looked capable of getting that 1 goal and we still didn't get there. This season I can't see the players who will step up and save us. We don't have a Pahars hitting a purple batch, or Beattie scrapping goals. We don't even have a grumpy Tadic deciding to turn up for the last few games to get his move to Ajax.

He's played nearly every game for a top-half team, he's too good for our sinking ship if we go down!
