His pashun for Nate's aggressive style made all the difference in what many will soon call a coup for Saints, while Chelsea fans will wonder what might have been. π

In a window where rivals have nabbed all the players we've been linked to, it's satisfying that we nipped in ahead of Chelsea's bid for Bree, forcing them to their back up option. π

The United Kingdom and the Death of Boris Johnson as we know it.
Holmes_and_Watson replied to CB Fry's topic in The Lounge
Another widely known about scandal, with a political party once again dragged kicking and screaming every step of the way to make the decision anyone with a shred of decency would have made from the outset. Corrupt and self serving to the last. -
I got the feeling in pre season, that the club, supremely confident of getting a new striker in, were prepared to listen to offers for Che. I think he didn't play for the next game at the time, which I was taking as the club letting him know he might not get as many minutes, and maybe a rumour or two at the time. Here we are with the club confident in bringing in a new attacker, and Che linked again with a departure. I think he's still needed, and he'd be a good partner for a better finisher.

As someone who has picked the first two socks out the drawer in the dark, I was more worried about your last sentence than the stats. π

I thought it was a province in Afghanistan, one of the few places Nathan felt was aggressive enough for his playing style. π

I saw Jerome a fair bit for Norwich. From his lonely spot up front, he could just about see his midfield support in the distance. Playing for Luton and GΓΆztepe would have been the ideal NJ/SR combo. But he also played for Stoke, so NJ wouldn't have wanted a reminder. π

I thought JRM would start turning up in the period dramas that BBC Radio 4 is so fond of. Each appearance would be further back, as he searched for a time where his views wouldn't seem backward and out of touch. In the end we'd not be sure if he had ever really existed at all.

Well he wasn't a striker. Might have worked as a full back. π

I'd have thought they would be in there as standard. Southampton have finance arrangements with MSD because we are at too high a risk of the drop for others to accept. That should be replicated in the contracts of the playing staff. I can't think of any player we've signed that was so good, we'd risk not having that clause in during negotiations.
-
Hope he settles in quickly, and does well when called on. He's a known quantity to NJ, so not a risk across a lot of areas. If he steps up as well to this level (which we'll hopefully be at for a while), all the better. I'm not a fan of our CBs as full backs, so this helps balance the squad too.

Rasmus prefers people who have come back from a failure. So, with results not mattering so much, imagine how much they will learn when we drop.

I was wondering if NJ is looking for someone particularly loyal to him, in the dressing room. That can go both ways. On one hand, you've got someone you can count on. On the other, it could be decisive, seeing Bree crawl to the big cheese.

Didn't concede with him on the park! Instant impact!

Southampton 0-1 Newcastle League Cup Semi Final 1st Leg
Holmes_and_Watson replied to Saint_clark's topic in The Saints
Newcastle on top for a lot of the first half. Blazed over their efforts. We, and most do, struggle from teams passing through us. Second half, we came back into it in spells. As usual, we didn't take advantage of it, with a fair Che chance. Then, as usual, we concede from a fairly avoidable error. We did manage to get back into it, only for it to be ruled offside. We didn't offer much after that. Newcastle are a much stronger, balanced team than us. Our failure to bring in a striker and keep the midfield solid will cost us in every game. We will always be likely to lose by fine margins, even at our best. -
