Chris Marsden had a big impact on Bridgey. He allowed him to bomb on without having to worry too much about charging back. It was simple, Marsden tucked in a bit, got a ball from Bridgey and then fed it down the line to give him a one on one against their retreating full back. All the clubs he has been at since he has played behind orthodox wingers so he has been trying to push on into their target space. Good player but I think he should have moved up field like Gareth Bale as his defending was always a little suspect.

Exclusive! New signing from St. James Park to St Mary's....

A vacuum fetish? -
I think we will do bloody well this year. Instead of playing on cow fields we will be playing on nice footballing surfaces which is more accommodating to our passing game. I genuinely think that with a couple of top rate signings we can be pushing for automatic at best, with playoffs as fall back. We've got the momentum and with a good NA preseason we will be on fire.

I may be too optimistic but I think we can mount a decent challenge next season (with a couple of quality additions). The momentum from this season will hopefully be taken through preseason and we will start next season with the bus at full speed. I certainly can't see us finishing bottom half. Do some people find it hard to believe that good times are on the way to St Marys?

Glad to see Huddersfield are off to the final. Like to see them beat Posh in the final.

Patience is a virtue of yesteryear. Take cricket for example, the five day proper test cricket arena has been diluted down for people with poor concentration skills and patience to a 20 over slogfest. Like abandoning the football match and going straight to pens. Everybody wants everything instantly, but just like guiness, good things come to those who wait! Here comes Owen, Inzaghi, Van Nistelroy and Beckham! :-)

Certainly the best I have seen in the sticks for Saints and i started watching during the Shilton era. The amount of double saves and even triple saves he made was simply amazing. So quick back to his feet and such a good shot stopper.

Big Wes Morgan from Forest could do a job for Jaidi. Big, strong and quick. Perfect foil for Fonte.

It's a new contract for Adkins!!
Scoobysaint replied to Ivan Katalinic's 'tache's topic in The Saints
I think this is great news for the club and can't really understand why any fans would be so negative about it. As with any football club, if the manager doesn't get results then they run the risk of getting the boot. However, the longer contract shows a committment to the fans, and more importantly the players. The playing squad clearly appreciate the way NA and AC respect them, train them and win with them. We have been craving stability for the past ten or fifteen years and finally we appear to have achieved it. Yet there are still doom merchants out there who refuse to get on the bus claiming it is gonna break down in a few miles. Just enjoy an exciting summer and stop looking for non-existant negatives. -
He has just come on for Bart.

After watching Theo this afternoon I don't think AOC would have to worry about any competition as Theo was dreadful. It may just be my thinking but I find Theo quite a disappointment. He certainly hasn't progressed or improved to the same extent as Gareth Bale.

Curtis Nelson from plymouth. Cheap, in the England u18's, highly thought of, similar to Jack Stephens.

Think i would prefer Wolves to West Ham, purely because I don't think they'll go straight back up or certainly be as strong contenders. Agree with Blackpool and Wigan though.

I do agree that permanent signings are best but a couple of cheeky loans (similar to Antonio or Papa) can only strengthen the squad. Unfortunately I am not able to comment on the youth players we have at the moment as I have not been able to see any play recently. If we have quality, pacey players in the ranks then give them a chance (as I am sure Adkins will) but if not Wenger may have one or two quality young'uns we could borrow.
-
As Wenger knows we can develop a player maybe he would be willing to loan us a couple, especially if they take AOC! http://www.arsenal.com/reserves-youth/players

What's your very first memory of a Saints game?
Scoobysaint replied to sussexsaint's topic in The Saints
1/12/1984 (aged 7) away to Ipswich. My dad tried to get me the mascot job but it was not available so instead I got to meet the players before the match. Quite an unforgetable experience meeting Steve Moran, Mick Mills, Danny Wallace and a naked Peter Shilton (in the process of putting on his strides)! We won 1-0 with David Armstong scoring the winner. Been hooked ever since, despite it not always easy growing up a Saints fan in Cambridgeshire! -

I think that playoffs shouls be a reasonable target but it depends on who comes down from the Prem. Norwich have had it quite easy this year with Pompey, Burnley and Hull coming down (2 with massive financial issues). May be more difficult against West Ham, Birmingham, Blackburn or Wigan.
-
I think it all depends on AOC. If he goes then I expect a number of new signings as we will have significant funds to blow. I would like Mackail-Smith as an option up front and probably another cb to team up with Fonte. Genuinely don't think we need that much really to be up and around the playoffs. I don't recall Norwich revamping their whole squad after promotion last year. After the run of results we have had I think we need to be more focussed on keeping this team together.
