Andy Carroll pulls out of squad.. Lambert in?
Scoobysaint replied to bowers-sfc's topic in The Saints
Maybe he is not the most mobile but he is a proven goalscorer. As for the system..... I am not sure that there is one judging by the absolute ****e we are producing tonight. Utter dross! -
Andy Carroll pulls out of squad.. Lambert in?
Scoobysaint replied to bowers-sfc's topic in The Saints
He may not be good enough but I feel that being the top English scorer in the Premier League entitles him to a place in the squad at least. Many said RL wouldn't be good enough for the Prem but he is. Now many say he wont be good enough at international, I would love him to get the opportunity to prove doubters wrong. -
Andy Carroll pulls out of squad.. Lambert in?
Scoobysaint replied to bowers-sfc's topic in The Saints
I know he won't ever read it, let alone reply but had to send Woy a letter. . . . Dear Mr Hodgson May I be as bold as to start this letter with two direct quotes from you, “We would like a stronger pool of front players to choose from, so when one or two get injured we still have (some) left.” “If you look at the Premier League most of the strikers are foreigners.” What I find so remarkable about these statements is that one of the joint top English scorers in the Premier League last season was Rickie Lambert, a player in his debut season in the top flight with a team that was expected to bravely battle against relegation. Lambert managed to score an impressive fifteen goals in comparison to Danny Wellbeck (1 goal), Wayne Rooney (12), Jermaine Defoe (11), and Andy Carroll (7). Southampton do not have the players to create the chances that these “goalscorers” get from their teams and yet Rickie Lambert has significantly outscored them. I fail to understand how you can state that the striking pool is small and the options are limited. The only limiting factor is your lack of vision, belief and trust in players that don’t play for one of the “big” teams. I was desperately hoping that your reign as England manager would lead us away from the unsuccessful years of only picking players from the top six clubs. Unfortunately it appears that, as so many before, you lack the ability to look at player form and ability without looking at the club badge first. I hope that you reconsider your selection policy in future squads but more so than that, I hope you start to think a little more about the sweeping statements that you make so offhandedly. Stating that the Premier League lacks quality strikers is a massive disservice to players such as Rickie Lambert, players who you are willing to belittle but not willing to give them the opportunity they richly deserve by calling them up to a squad . What was fan violence like in the 80s at the dell?
Scoobysaint replied to kwsaint's topic in The Saints
I think its generally accepted that football hooliganism IS bad. Thankfully the days of the 80's are a distant memory unless you are unlucky enough to be a fan of Millwall or a few others. -
Accrington Stanley...... Who are they?
-
I would bloody annoyed if I was an ASFC fan if not true. Billy Sharp would be a massive signing for them. Imagine if MP had rocked up posing for loan signings done with his pals. If not true i think it shows Beatts isn't ready for management.

I think we are a much improved side side MP took over. While I am extremely grateful to NA for all he did for the club over the past few seasons, I did feel that he was a little out of his depth but more importanty I think he knew he was on borrowed time The interview after our promotion where he was talking about a parting of the ways, etc. Anyhow, I feel that the pressing game MP has brought in works well ad has worked well in the majority ofthe games since his arrival. There have been some games that have been very disappointing but every team has bad weeks. We have been creating more chances or opportunities to shoot even if they are not being taken, and all this with a team that he inherited. I am hopeful that with a full preseason, some astute signings (probably from La Liga) we have the potential to finish in the top eight. For the record I have about twenty £10 bets with mates at the start of the season that Saints would finish 12th or above so I did have faith in Akins too or the players at least!

Sunderland 1-1 SAINTS // Post-Match Reaction
Scoobysaint replied to Saint-Armstrong's topic in The Saints
There are admittedly one or two concerns about some aspects of the team but no need for this level of trolling! For weeks you have harped on about doom and gloom and even on the day we guarantee next season in the Prem you are still at it. We know Jos isn't up to it, nor Fox, nor several others but its time now for MP to do his stuff. Also, when NA was here you moaned about his inadequcies with regard to substitutions, yet offer no praise to the game changing subs made by MP. If it wasn't for the fact that you amuse me with your desperate attention seeking statements, I, as many others I presume, would have you on the ignore list. Its almost like..... it could be worse, I could live the fun and wholesome existance of Alpine. Keep it up! -
Karma - embarrassing Pompey song (VIDEO)
Scoobysaint replied to Saint-Armstrong's topic in The Saints
Pure comedy. -
Totally agree with the OP. Jos is a very one dimensional cb who is merely ok in the air. He lacks pace but also seems to lack the ability to read a game and a situation, always having to react and frequently lunging and fouling. He is as much of a liability going forward as his distrubution is simply dreadful. Enough has already been said of Fox and his inadequacies so no need to harp on, he simply isnt up to it.
-
How? Are you suggesting our form is clearly that of a team destined for relegation! One bad day at the office doesn't mean that the whole season collapses. No need to be so dramatic!
-
Guessing Europe through fair play is a gonna!
-
As usual on this forum, a combination of total bedwetters and happy clappers. We won't win every game and hae no right to win every game. Will we make Europe next season . . . No. Will we go down.... No. I don't agree with all this get rid of Gaston either. Many people wrote off Morgan at the beginning of his career in England and now look at him.
-
What is becoming even more blatently clear is that Jos and Fox are liabilities. Think we will need to score four to win this!
-
Happy days. Got a sneaky feeling we are really going places next year with some impressive signings, thorough pre season and a stripey adidas kit!

Ramiez, time to settle or not good enough?
Scoobysaint replied to southamptonfclegend's topic in The Saints
I think he will prove to be a fantastic player for us, with a decent preseason behind him. At present I think he is almost too sharp for other team mates and is seeing things that others aren't. Can't remember which present Saints player tweeted that Ramirez was world class but do recall Phil "Fizzer" Neville stating he was the toughest opponet he'd faced this year. Admittedly his set pieces were simply dreadful but next season i think he will be a star for us. -
The only loser this afternoon was the "game" of football. So glad I am not a Hammers fan. We are getting spoilt each week with players that actually pass to one another. West Ham and Big Sam are simply dreadful to watch, fouls and set plays and nothing else.
-
Fantastic news for SFC. It shows the intent of the club as I am not sure all these players would be signing new contracts if they weren't convinced by the ambition of the club and NC. We are certainly going places.
-
Really can't see any result other than a Saints win, possibly by a number of goals. This is not arrogance, merely a statement based on how well we have been playing. The only issue will be cutting out Fat Sams set play system. Don't give them any free kicks then they won't create too many chances. So long as somebody tracks Nolans run when looking for mistakes we'll be fine. Far too much quality, style and panache all over the pitch for the hoofball Hammers. Saints 4 - 1 West Ham Lambert 2 Jrod 1 Ramirez 1
-
Really can't understand the ambition of getting in Phil Neville. An old overpaid player who would add nothing to the squad.
-
Judging by the recent signings of Ramirez and Forren I think we will spend a few quid on foreign talent and not on players from relegated teams. If we are striving for a higher league position we need to get better players in and there are not many in the teams below that I would rather have in Saints. Also we've got some youth players that may make the step up as Shaw and JWP have this season. I think Hooiveld is gonna struggle next season once Foreen is up to speed as he lacks the distribution necessary, merely a long diagonal hoof. The CM pairing of Cork and Spiderman would be hard to improve on. I am hopeful that NC and MP and the transfer crew have set their sights a little higher than many on this forum.
-
A number of the Reading fans don't feel that Nigel will be there for too long as they don't feel its the job he wants, merely the one he has. They think he would have preferred Leeds and is still totally gutted about what happened at Saints. Also doesn't help having an ethos of pass, pass, pass with a squad that can't.

A few liverpool reactions... Reply #370 on: Today at 05:22:50 PM »Best team won. Southampton haven't put a performance like that in for more than 10-15 years. Seriously where the **** did a performance like that come from? OK we were pathetic and there are questions to be asked about many of our players but if I was a Saints fan today I'd be delighted to have witnessed that. Today at 05:24:05 PM »southampton were excellent going forward. put our supposedly more talented and certainly more expensive players to shame with their fluency and desire. in the first half there were three in the box for every attack. neat, tight passing, but mixing it up with the short game and the direct game. a joy to watch, really, were it not for the opposition...
