Would love to see Gaston have a blinder tonight just to show the whinging few that he is a player.

The OP is quite a dull sort. If he was a Spurs fan no doubt he would have been writing Bale off after a short while seeing as they never won when he played. Ronaldo took a few seasons to be the real deal at United. Drogba took a season at Chelsea. But oh no, as we are Southampton our signings don't have to adjust or adapt. I'm just glad we can attract Italy's number 9 and Uruguays playmaker to St Marys. Stop yer whining!

A good victory despite being under the cosh for a fair bit of the game. I was hugely impressed by Boruc and the confidence he inspires in the defence, finally found a new Niemi. Overall I thought we were pegged back and spent a long time defending against a decent Swansea side. The way they exploted Fox at left back was fairly predictable and a problem that will keep occurring every time he has to cover for Shaw. Quite simply he isn't good enough for this team anymore and has been proven that he is not even good enough to be a back up. His positional sense is appalling and he never seems to tackle, merely accompany (not jockey) the opposition winger to their crossing position. Was very impressed with Morgan today and thought he worked well together with Big Vic, who's passing still beggars belief at times. The front players were fantastic for the first twenty five or so minutes, plenty of interlinking and movement, creating a number of opportunities. Lallana put is a performance worthy of the captains armband today and seemed back to his best. I I do think that a couple of injuries to the spine of the team would hit us hard but while everybody is fit and healthy the future is bright. Personally, as a lifelong Saints fan I am not getting too carried away with talk of 4th or Europe. Lets just get to 42 points as quickly as possible and then enjoy whatever happens.

Willian has just scored a blinder for Chelsea.
-
Nice to get the 2nd. Now lets get to the final whistle with no red cards.
-
Up to 3rd as Nawwwich equalise!
-
Fox needs to attack the ball rather than constantly running back towards the touch line. If Dyer skins him, then fair play to Dyer, but dont just let him have a free cross.
-
Good game so far with plent of opportunities to notch for both teams. Very concerned about the space coming down our left, not having a pop at Fox, but the space needs closing down so the service cant be given to Bony or Michu.

Post Match Reaction & MotM: SAINTS 2-0 Crystal Palace
Scoobysaint replied to Saint-Armstrong's topic in The Saints
Easiest victory I've seen in a while. Never really troubled and it was just a matter of when would the scoring begin. Big Vic did a great job breaking their play up but at times his first touch is simply woeful. Delighted with the impact Lovren has had on the whole back five, just pure quality. Exciting times to be a Saints fan. -
I think we will get a draw at worst. Generally when teams park the bus we struggle to score and get far to tippy tally! Liverpool will be venturing forward leaving much more space to exploit. If Ossie starts I fancy him to tear them a new one!

Not too fussed at all as I don't think he would have been that close to the 18 man squad, let alone the starting eleven. Fair play to him for actually wanting to play football rather than many professionals who are happy to just go through the motions at training and take their pay cheque. Good for him, good for Palace and good for us as it frees up a squad space. -

Don't see this as any great loss really as he we have better, are going better places and will get in better, if Isgrove isn't already viewed as such. He'll be much happier in the big smoke too I would imagine and playing each week. Win Win. Only loser will be George Mells! -
Latest update from Italian journo: Southampton wants at all costs Pablo Daniel Osvaldo. And in the last few hours there have been contacts between the player and the coach of the Saints Mauricio Pochettino that knows him from RCD Espanyol. This was revealed by Alfredo Pedullà is on the pages of its site: "Southampton has lifted an incredible pressure against Pablo Daniel Osvaldo. Roma striker are assigned other clubs, but days that we present of Southampton, including the written offer formalized yesterday and that implies a willingness to close. In the last few hours frantic contacts between coach Pochettino and Osvaldo: you know the time of Espanyol, there is mutual esteem. And so the Southampton hopes to Crown a long Chase

Does seem a bit strange but Monaco are alledgedly getting shot of him because of the tax burden?
-
Aside from Osvaldo, it seems Falcao has been transfer listed according to Marca? HCPDAJFU!
-
Sorry, meant from their personal accounts - Jordan Sibley, Jim Lucas.
-
Not sure if its to do with Osvaldo but I would presume that something is in the offing as all of the saints PR crew have been exceptionally quiet on Twitter today and yesterday. They tend to say nothing than pretend they're up to nothing. Have to wait and see. May be a new hospitality / catering drive....... may be a new signing.

I don't think it would be a much of an issue if there wasn't a world cup at the end of the season. As for MP not being the big attraction, I think if we were in the same league position as Spurs and could offer the same prospects then I think Osvaldo would come here. The other major drawback we have is that Southampton is not a very desirable cosmopolitan place to live. Harsh but nowhere near the appeal of London or even Manchester.

I am not convinced this one will happen although I think it does show other clubs and players that we mean business in progressing. It is a tricky situation as not many international players are going to be content not playing CL in a world cup season. It may be case of another team rebuild to get to the next level. Just as Hammond, Harding, Butterfield got us promoted, maybe we now need players who can get us into the top seven and then after that rebuild again to hit even higher marks. But as has been said before.... evolution not revolution. We cant simply expect top, top, top players to be happy playing for a mid table Prem team regardless of ambition.
-
Fantastic news. How he has been overlooked for so long is absurd. Top player, great role model, all round lovely chap. Hope he fills his boots against the sweaty socks.

Not too fussed about losing on penalties as wouldn't imagine any of them would be anywhere near a penalty kick on true match day. From what I could pick out from the slightly suspect stream, we played very well and the passed the ball about with pace and poise. Unfortunately we are still struggling in the final third and are desperately needing that new CF to provide some competition for places. Good to see Gaston have a good half and link up nicely. All in all, seeing as we are still a couple of weeks till the league starts, we are doing alright.

Jamie White was scoring for fun till he did his cruciate and the broke his ankle. Was at Winchester where he scored something like 52 in 36 games. Now at Salisbury I think.

I never worried about whether the players would get burnt feet (trust MP more than that) and wasn't ever moaning about it being "dangerous" team bonding fun! I was merely trying to get my head around why the body doesn't burn when placed on hot coals. Thanks to some informative posters I am now suitably enlightened. Cheers.
