  1. That’s not to say it would’ve had the tragic outcome as this, but it was a distinct possibility. If anyone sees similar changes in their own tyres on a journey, I’d strongly advise stopping and at least coming off higher speed roads and finding the nearest garage or outlet. If at night and not confident changing to the spare yourself (we wouldn’t have been tbh) then your breakdown provider should normally be able do it depending on your policy type.
  2. Me and the missus were in the Brecon Beacons a couple of weeks ago for the day. I had about 100 miles of fuel left and 30 or so left to home. Normally I’d have carried on and got fuel the next day. This time, I decided to stop at the Shell in Symonds Yat. Whilst filling up I noticed an egg had suddenly appeared on my front offside tyre that wasn’t there when we popped into Abergavenny on the way home. I diverted to the Forest of Dean away from the M50 and by luck found a garage just closing up. Very kind owner changed to my spare and said to me ‘that’s potentially lethal, you’ve hit a pothole recently and it’s popped the inner in the heat. There’s only the tyre surface between you and the road - that won’t last 30 miles and likely to blow out any moment’. Went onto say at 70mph it would be very difficult to control if it did. Bearing in mind the M50 doesn’t consistently have a hard shoulder…. Wouldn't take payment either - what a gent - but if I hadn’t stopped for fuel I’d never have known I was driving with a lethal fault as the car wasn’t handling any differently.
  3. Three kids. Terrible.
  4. Probably another Saints fan with the stress of watching the suicide ball around the defence under Russell Martin.
  5. Should have used their blue light discount at Specsavers.
  6. Markets don’t agree, once Starmer backed her the price of borrowing dropped sharply again. Strange situation this afternoon, all is clearly not well. The boss stabbed her in the back arguably but she’s not helped herself. As with Truss, not pleasant to watch someone unravel. Poor form from Badenoch though, the other parties behaving with some decorum and basic decency, but Kemi has no social skills. She’ll be gone before anybody else at least as leader of the opposition.
  7. Dalian Atkinson was wasn’t he?
  8. Is it to the Norwegian Fjords?
  9. They did, Tilak again, Brown and Dawson (again). Middleton, Stoneman, Albert, Weatherley, Prest and Gubbins need to play some local cricket and get into some form before our red ball or One Day Cup next games after the Blast resumes. Orr did at least make a couple of starts and should have been picked a while ago.
  10. I find it particularly relaxing and especially this time of year, You Never Give Your Money is a classic as is Golden Slumbers. I really enjoy Abbey Road but could make a counter argument for several of their albums.
  11. How the scouts thought he was worth £17m or whatever it was…staggering as Hoedt. Inept morons.
  12. I’d still buy a Honda even if the US-built car was half the price.
  13. This isn’t like affirmative action in the US or SA though - which has a history of civil rights abuses and apartheid, so went down a quantitative route. Mixed views on that, but as ever, the garbage from MAGA transplants to the likes of Reform UK and the ‘left behind’ voters. Here, it’s not quantitative in selection as such but recognising that more of an opportunity needs to be given for interview and assessment for people who might not have seen themselves say working at a brand name football club. That’s all, and unlike the above they still have to meet the majority of essential and desirable criteria, or be compelling on how they could develop to do so. The cream should rise to the top whether it’s white middle aged, black, women, disabled etc. Given the club’s performance since spring 2023, perhaps the odd different perspective might improve things?
  14. Sorry for your loss @Master Bates
  15. Looks good but would like to see some signings now for the first XI in 25/26 - an area SR have historically badly lacked in.
  16. In London, Edinburgh, Dublin, sure, but horses for courses according to the market and customer base. And depends on what your mission is.
  17. ☝️ and would add that all applicants, including white. from the most deprived SO postcodes should be encouraged too. Not PO ones though, there are limits… That potentially harms older white graduates from top universities like me but puts me on my top game.
  18. Yep, doesn’t mean they’ll get it and aren’t offered the role if not the best on the day but having the interview experience and feedback if they don’t succeed helps them compete on a more level playing field next time.
  19. 🤦‍♂️ Seriously? Social media has a lot to answer for. Do you go to SMS on a match day and never see a white face? And what about white applicants from different backgrounds? Ban women? Should disabled people be confined to the wheelchair section? All those white coaches, administrators and managers not getting an opportunity….https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Black_managers_in_English_football
  20. It isn’t, but I’ve tried to explain above why it isn’t and why the ‘white man’ losing out argument being pumped out online and by populists like Lowe and Farage is not true. I’m trying to inform and gently challenge rather than argue with a poster that I like.
  21. Come on FS, you’re much better than that. I’ve recruited into the hundreds for staff and it doesn’t work like Lowe is saying at all. And he doesn’t operate like that out of Withington either. For example people with neurodiversities have an employment rate miles below the average, yet no less talent. Small adjustments give them a chance to compete in recruitment - note compete, not an advantage https://www.gov.uk/government/news/employment-prospects-for-neurodiverse-people-set-to-be-boosted-with-launch-of-new-expert-panel
  22. And without re-treading old ground, Lowe didn’t know ‘where the next penny was coming from’ in 2005/6. Tidy at managing the Sky money until he believed his own press (and clearly still does) written by his public school chum Charlie Sale and we were relegated after the Wigley debacle. But not wealthy enough to be in charge of Gloucester City let alone Saints.
  23. Yes, I agree let’s get the best people, which includes reasonable adjustments for talented neurodiverse people for example so an interview becomes an assessment of mutual aims and someone’s true ability not a memory test. Or when two candidates are neck and neck, reflecting the diversity of my city of my birth (a seaport) in some appointments. Our fanbase is more diverse now.
  24. I’m going to give you tomorrow - Benny Troy Disco 2000 - Pulp A Pillow of Winds - Pink Floyd Design for Life - Manic Street Preachers Going Underground - The Jam Spandau Ballet - Gold Sun King - Beatles I’ll go where your music takes me - Jimmy James & Vagabonds You can go your own way - Fleetwood Mac Lake Poets - Shipyards
  25. The players are phoning it in, new owners need to move Birrell and White on, set up is stale. The players are shit but someone else might be able to survive in D1 this season.
