I was kind of hoping for electric blue, to be honest. But still, it's good to hear that Glennforce is such an enlightened body of men.

You know, you could be right. It's just possible that it was a typo by Dalek - unlikely, I concede, but possible nonetheless. But did I block Richard's appointment, or was it Walter's? Time for the laudanum methinks...

Will I get to keep the orange jump suit?

In some respects I agree, but to describe the connection between a company and one of its directors as tenuous is way off. And as for the connection between a company and its executive chairman - tenuous? Do you own a dictionary?

I won't sleep soundly until I know who Haddle is. I also want to know if I played a part in blocking his appointment. It's only fair.

According to the club, Poortvliet paid off his year's salary out of his own pocket when he left Helmond, such was his desire to take the job here. The Echo put the sum he paid at £60,000 - admittedly, I don't know how accurate that is, but the Echo certainly seem very close to the club these days. I have no idea how much Jan is paid at SFC, but it would seem odd to leave a job in your home country for a bigger one in another country (given the upheaval and expense involved) and get paid - effectively - £20,000 less in your first year. Which, if he's on £100,000 here, is exactly what he has done. As to Pearson's salary, where did you get that figure from? Plucked from the air perhaps?

Before the season started I thought we would struggle, though certain performances in pre-season appeared to give grounds for at least some optimism. The first game I saw was Birmingham at home in the Carling Cup; after that, I felt genuinely optimistic myself. I then went to our next game, Blackpool at home, and came away thinking that inconsistency was likely to be the main feature of our season. That's the way things have turned out; a great performance and result is followed by either a nothing performance or a shocker. We have yet to put together a decent run of results, and this worries me enormously.

The Bates Motel. Now who'd play Norman I wonder?

Given his dress sense that's a task he certainly should be delegating!

Golac's going to get it, and probably by a landslide, but in my view he shouldn't. Fantastically entertaining player, terrific going forward, excellent crosser of the ball, scored one astonishing goal (I was at that game and can still see it now). But defensively? Not too great, especially away from home, where his tendency to bomb up the right wing often left us sorely exposed. Not a great tackler either, always as likely to take the player as the ball (or miss the tackle altogether). Golac is without doubt a true Saints legend. But as a right back Mick Mills was in a different league.

Oh yes, a hot pie with extra-hot gravy specially heated to burn your chin. What's not to like? This thread has been moved to the Muppet Show I see - where's the dedicated Plested's Pies board then? Oh - spitting off the top deck would probably make more sense... But you sound like a rebellious type, who may have contemplated speaking to the driver when the bus was moving. Now that would be scary!

Not just the apple ones - their individual steak and kidney pies were a treat. Not too much kidney, as I recall. Let's face it, nostalgia ain't what it used to be!

Something in me (Bombay Sapphire, if you really want the details) is telling me that the thread title should have a name at the end of it - and that Mrs Worthington would be a good choice. Then we could all sing it.
-
By crackey that was a fast response. Plested's - I think you have it there. If they still exist as a top-notch pie seller, it certainly isn't where they used to be, not least as the building they were in is no more. I think we're into snows of yesteryear territory here.
-
How many pies would we need though? Quite a few I'd think. In the days of Plastead's (sp? - by the old bus station), it would have been so easy to do...

In amongst all the blather about Lowe from all quarters, I rather think you've got it spot on there.
-
Gosh, how exciting. I wonder what you could be referring to. Let me guess: does it start with an 'h' and end with 'le', with an 'odd' somewhere in the middle?

Look at this another way. As far as I know, we've kept up payments on the stadium loan ever since they started. So we're not in arrears on the mortgage. Given that companies get pushed into administration by creditors, this is a good thing (except of course for those hoping for administration to happen), as it means that our single biggest creditor is happy and won't be pulling the plug.
-
So, as with Mark Twain, reports of his death are greatly exaggerated. OK, so it works better said first person rather than third...
-
I think Wilde could do that very easily - as far as I know he's not paid a salary anyway! Interesting idea for Lowe to do it though, purely as a gesture - but can you really see it happening? No, neither can I. And I'll break this to you as gently as I can - Cyril Smith died several years ago (well, he never was going to live to a ripe old age, was he?)

Put me in mind of Brian Blessed.

Can someone - anyone - please explain why Richmond puts one of these on every single one of his posts?

The subs bench is a great idea - can't think of any other way Nick Holmes will get in, and it just wouldn't be right if he wasn't there!

Saints Greatest XI - Nominations For Best CBs.

I agree. Both excellent centre backs, especially Watson, but as a combination they weren't so great. I think they had shared weaknesses, lack of pace being a key one, which made them considerably less effective as a pairing. Like so many others on here, I'd find it impossible to look beyond Watson and Wright as the ideal.
