Well, if he hangs Lowe and chums upside down from meat-hooks he'll be doing a fine job as far as I'm concerned.

You know, I think you're onto something there...
-
You've just identified the primary purpose of the OS there.

If Dodd and Gorman had stayed in charge, it's a pretty safe bet that we would have been relegated well before the final game of the season. No, of course that can't be proved, but if you look at how results went with that pair in charge it looks highly likely. Pearson slowed the Dodd/Gorman plummet to a decline, then stabilised and improved things. He wasn't a miracle worker, but I'd say he made a positive difference.

Can't argue with you there - a true classic. I think it was Ottery who coined the phrase 'Lavender Hill Mob' to describe Lowe and his chums; personally though, I think of them more as the Ladykillers: http://www.britmovie.co.uk/studios/ealing/filmography/85.html

Won't it be nice when we don't have to any more though...

What a strange question. Footballers enter their prime in their late teens; by their early twenties they're able to exhibit their full, fantastic range of skills, play 46 games or more in a season and compete quite brilliantly against the gnarled old pros who can still be found lurking in the teams of sadly unenlightened clubs. This must be the case, because otherwise our whole strategy as a club is just plain wrong. Oh.

I saw him play in a reserve game. I'm not bemused.

I was about to post pretty much the same thing. I'm not at all convinced by all the stuff about Lowe being a major player in the City. What's his latest gig? Chairman of a provincial firm of stockbrokers. Scarcely making big waves in the square mile then. And how did he get that particular gig? Via his Old Radleian chum Lord Marland. Lowe was born into wealth and he still has wealth. And if you're born rich, staying that way is a piece of p1ss; getting richer is pretty easy too.

Excellent letter. I reckon the Echo will probably publish it; they may even decide to make more of it than they normally would of a letter, who knows. After all, their business is selling papers, and something like this could up circulation somewhat. If they don't then I think it's safe to say that Wilde, a man with all the courage of a louse, won't reply. If they do, and particularly if they give it major coverage as well, Wilde's position will be considerably more difficult. But I still wouldn't expect a response from him that actually means anything.

I agree with most of that. However, the fact remains that three years ago Lowe did use a PR firm to post on this forum's predecessor. At that time it hit the national press, and was admitted (and played down for all they were worth) by officials of the club. Personally, I don't think it's likely to happen again now, as it would be so much more difficult to do. Plus, of course, it didn't work last time anyway. The single worst result of that whole farrago is the suspicion it engendered - an effect that's still being felt three years on. The very fact that this thread has been started at all bears gloomy testimony to that.

He's ours to keep I do believe...

So was his dad, apparently.

I want them both to lose heavily. Can't that be arranged somehow?

It is indeed. It's also Muhammad Ali's.

Saints Greatest XI - Nominations For Best left Side Striker
Fowllyd replied to St Landrew's topic in Golden Posts
Big Ron - officially the greatest living Welshman. He'll walk this poll. -
I can see your point there, but the thread you picked on to illustrate it was definitely not the right one! FF's 'name-dropping' thread is a delight to read - yes it's nostalgic, but there's little if any slating of Lowe or the current regime on there at all. In fact, the only sour note I can recall was Sundance's odious little contribution (little in every sense of the word, too). No agenda in evidence, just some cracking and often hilarious stories. But then two bottles of Shiraz in an evening is some going!

Has it escaped your attention that this is in fact an internet forum? Just wondered...

Saints Greatest XI - B-Team Right Side Striker Poll
Fowllyd replied to St Landrew's topic in Golden Posts
I think you'll find that people are in fact colluding for Ron, because they want him to be in the A team where he belongs, not the B team which this vote is for. -
As did I. I think the problem is that a lot of people haven't picked up on how the poll is working. A little reading can go a long way - unfortunately that's a little more reading than many appear to have done. If Ron isn't in the A team it'll be a travesty.
-
I think that's a brilliant idea.

Am I missing something here? I thought this was an internet forum, nothing more than that. What's said on here has no effect on SFC. If posters on here launch a vast and spectacular b1tch-fest before Saturday, will it make us more or less likely to win against Doncaster? The simple answer is neither - because posts on here have no effect whatsoever on the team's performance. If anybody chooses not to attend home games, that's their choice and theirs alone - I find it hard to believe that they're doing it because they saw a post on here. Added to which, as far as I'm aware many posters on here who are strongly opposed to the current regime at Saints attend matches - isn't that what's meant by getting behind SFC? Or is their support of the team somehow devalued because they don't like the chairman?

the things Rupert Lowe has said over the years

I think you'll find that Sundance has a Radley School dog lead...
