  1. A personal favourite - 3-2 against Liverpool in 1983 (82-83 season). We scored first with a Martin Foyle penalty, they equalised and then took the lead, but the great Nick Holmes scored two, the second an astonishing lob over Grobbelaar from miles out. All that happened in the first half. No goals in the second (obviously enough), but it was still a great half. Liverpool did their considerable best to get a third, but Saints kept them out. Superb football played by both sides. The 2-0 win over the same opposition the following season was pretty damn good too.
  2. It's also fabulous on a nicely griddled burger. Best get out and replenish your stock...
  3. It's Orchestral Manoeuvres in the Dark, aka OMD, isn't it? Or is my knowledge of 80's electro-pop stars deserting me? If it is OMD, it's a splendidly fitting avatar right now.
  4. "Jeremy Sphincter sailed for Australia after the poultry scare. We won't mention him again." Vivian Stanshall, Rawlinson End
  5. I expected a 10-point deduction and wasn't surprised when we got it. I reckon we'd be on shaky ground any way you look at it if we tried to get that deduction rescinded. That said, the way the League acted was pretty poor - I'm not thinking of the past couple of weeks, but when they first sent in the accountants to look at the books, the way it was announced and so forth. But that's no more than a minor point. Like most others I imagine, I'll be mightily happy and relieved if we start in League One next season with a 10-point penalty.
  6. Is that Marc Jackson wearing his Lone Ranger mask?
  7. Fair enough, Phil - let's call it a query over your initial wording then... Personally though, I'll go for the c*ck-up rather than conspiracy explanation every time. Which would give a resounding answer of 'no' to each and every one of your questions above. Sh1t happens, I do believe. And, in the absence of concrete information, rumour, speculation (often wild) and gossip will always abound.
  8. How can you ask why something happened, when you have only an allegation that it actually did happen? If it happened and there's proof that it did then go ahead and ask why, but as it stands this is just another unsubstantiated rumour. The fact you heard it at Glastonbury doesn't exactly add anything to its credibility.
  9. You're probably right about the urban myth bit (Guildford has a Borough Council, so it isn't a city). But I don't think Reading has a cathedral. It has an abbey, and a prison where Oscar Wilde was once incarcerated, but no cathedral that I know of.
  10. Thanks for that - I couldn't remember exactly how many points Luton had been deducted and why. I do recall thinking that the penalty for previous wrongdoing (the agents' fees bit) was massively harsh, given that it had happened under the previous regime and the current one had actually drawn the FL's attention to it (I think that was the case). But that's the way the FL chooses to operate - it seems almost feudal at times.
  11. True, but my point was that it wasn't a case of SLH (or Lowe, which amounts to the same thing at that time) picking a moment for the company to go into administration. Lowe may think he's an ultra-successful businessman but I don't buy that any more than you do. I don't think he saw it coming at all - not that it makes any difference now, I guess.
  12. The decision to put SLH into administration was taken by the company's creditors (in this case Barclay's Bank when they refused to honour cheques). This is how these things normally happen (Leeds a few years back were an exception, as the creditors had close links with Ken Bates). So the timing of it had nothing to do with SLH.
  13. Indeed. Personally, I don't even think he got to the stage of detailed discussions with the administrators - anything suggesting that he did came from the Echo, who appeared to be getting it directly from Jackson himself.

    A Play!

How about a young man driven to drug addiction by spending far too much time reading (and contributing to) an internet forum about the club he supports? Many of the posts on here could drive anyone into the arms of Morpheus I'd have thought. The play itself could be a bit like Krapp's Last Tape, but with the protagonist sitting in front of a laptop rather than a tape recorder.
  15. LMAO - spot on.
  16. Well said that man. Hmm... Reading this and a couple of his other posts, I can't help but wonder if our dear old chum Flashdance Canteen Bear has added yet another id to his already impressive list.
  17. Well, I guess that I just don't know... "I'm gonna try to nullify my life" Sounds like a familiar way to spend a Saturday afternoon.
  18. He's the administrator of SLH plc. He's not meant to give a toss about anything other than getting the best deal possible for the creditors.
  19. That certainly sounds very plausible. After all, TL has stated on several occasions that it's not the 10 points per se that are the issue. I'd imagine the League don't want to be tied down in any way, and would prefer to reserve the right to impose whatever further deduction they choose.
  20. What was posted by Tony Lynam on here means nothing. What has been agreed between the various parties and their lawyers, and which will therefore be in the contracts, is what matters. HTH.
  21. I was in my first year at university, living in hall. A mate across the corridor (who had very little interest in football) told me that Saints had just signed Keegan. I think I told him to f*ck off. I did apologise when I heard it was true though...
  22. At home to the Skates, 2nd January 1987 (I'm sure someone will correct me if I'm wrong about the date ). They spent that one season in the top flight and were a truly woeful side. In that particular match, you could easily see just how bad they were. The only problem was that in that particular match we were even worse. And the worst of it is that I watched the whole sad spectacle stone cold sober...
  23. Few chairs and a couple of sofas.
  24. No, it's 300,000 - at least if my knowledge of Russian works with Polish! The word used in the original article is almost exactly the same as the Russian for thousand. Oh, and one other thing - the keeper's name is Bak, but as there's a little diacritic under the 'a' in his name it would actually be pronounced 'bonk'. As good a reason as any to sign him I'd have thought...
  25. How did the dolphins enjoy it?
