I think a lot of the vitriol is because we are genuinely gutted to lose him. He is a good player and we'd be a better team if he stayed. Things change quickly in football and if he doesn't want to fulfil his destiny as club legend that's fine. Let's show a bit of class ourselves and not act like dumped teenagers. Having met him I don't think he is up his own arse, I'd actually say he is quite shy and insular if anything, doesn't enjoy the limelight ala Scholes. We never got to see Billy Sharp in the Prem, and many wrote him off. For what it's worth I don't think he'd get many goals as a starter, but did however look like a poacher and would have been a decent option off the bench last year.

One of the senior players at the awards dinner said he wouldn't be surprised to see Shaw sold if someone offered £30m+. Our campaign last year was let down by the depth of our squad and not the quality of our first XI. If letting Luke go means we can resist big money offers for Lallana, Lovren and Morgan and we can plough back in the proceeds get a new LB,CB and couple of strikers I think it will be 1 step back 2 steps forward.

Gaston is a decent player who hasn't had a run because of his and / or the managers lack of desire to play. He has a lot of talent, whether we ever see it who knows. The same people who moan about Gaston were likely the ones who would have retained Wotton over Schneiderlin.
