A degree does improve your chances of getting a higher then average wage, equally there are many ways for you to get a high wages by taking routes outside of University. And as Hypo points out, if you do not get to that wage point you do not need to repay it. As far as i'm concerned the fact that uni isn't the only way should be made more socially acceptable to those who have the obvious ability to go to university but who's skills may be better served elsewhere.
