  1. Clearly you have not bothered to read this It was on Twitter. 2 hours go. It is helping the family. Leave it out now, OK? Quote specific attention seekers fine.
  2. Oh and in the "coming late" class I include the Tweet from Sepp Blatter today. But Hypo - look again at the TIMES that many of those reported Tweets were posted, MANY were as the events were unfolding (inc many by our lads). Those were sincere
  3. Anyone who watches that Video clip or read the reports as it happened that did not feel an upsurge of emotion and hope that he would pull through probably needs Special care. Anyone who did not give a thought or a prayer, well, I cannot think of a polite description of them, other than perhaps they have not spoken to anyone outside of their keyboard for the past 48 hours. It is a story that has touched everyone, everywhere. The outpouring of support on Twitter in the few hours after the event was deeply moving and incredibly sincere. My best pal, A Bolton fan living in Switzerland was absolutely devasted by it, as was the entire Pub he was in. The regulars in the Pub have all been calling HIM and asking if he was OK. And yes, IF he had a chance then he said he would get back to the Reebok this week, either to lay a memorial OR to give a Prayer that "A Miracle" occured and he will recover. I suppose some on here would knock the Liverpool fans who laid tributes at Anfield when Shankly passed away, or laid wreaths and demanded a Statue when Ted passed away... BUT. Having said that. SOME people DO now appear to be coming to the "outpouring" a little bit late in the day. I got a sense today that some players may have been given a kick by their managers or agents because they HADN'T "put something on Twitter yesterday", or "made sure they were filmed" going in to the Hospital. Not all, just some. That really leaves me feeling very uneasy. But I do think you & Hypo put your case a little wrongly guys
  4. Great post. From down here I think something like 18 "foreigners" have gone to see Saints play, some were taken by employees on an "event" (Guess who influenced their choice of venue), a couple I have taken to SMS & one to Derby Away (London Saints won't forget him in a hurry) I know 3 of them still ask me regularly "How are WE" doing, one who is currently trying to get his family out of Damascus has got Al Jazeera so he can see the games and still has his shirt from the day framed on the wall in his office. They aren't die hard "uber fans" of course, but they "Care" about us. For them it sure is nothing to do with "Winning Only" their trips to see us touched something (what DID you guys do on that damned train ride back that day?) One Arab businessman in Bahrain still asks about Saints - we played a mid season friendly over there way back in the mid 90's and I sent him along (with his family) and he got most of the team's autographs (his MLT one arrived via me many years later). None of them will do a "Oh my God Wembley Cup Final MUST fly" just to see the Saints, but I do know that if they were in England during the season on business and we happened to be near them, they would all want to go and see us. This time round as you say eric, I just think we are more of a "Club" now. They should never take the seat of a loyal die hard goes every week fan but it would be good if we get to 45,000 seats so they and their like would have that chance to feel SMS and have them go home and spread the word again. Emiratis wearing Lallana Shirts instead of Messi. Oh yes, that would be nice hell, we may even get more than 8 of us down the pub here for a televised game! (with thanks to StL)
  5. Don't think you are alone matey. Most of the Press have been creaming themselves over it as well (and ain't none of the reveiws I have see been by Teenage Chicks) Let us hope it is a modern Sci Fi Classic
  6. hehe.. Actually (God Bless the Director) she totally perked up early on when they mentioned the Polish & Czech squadrons. She was then laughing at the banter from the Polish "Training Flight" when they laid into some Heinkels. She even became able to spot the differences between the Spit (Rounded wing tips) Hurricanes (less rounded) and the ME 109's - almost square tipped. She also expressed an interest in actually visiting the Museum at Duxford. She Oh no'd when Michael Caine snuffed it (Jeez how she recognised HIS plane - I'd not noticed!) She did ROFL at the almost cartoon plane blowing up paintings and - God Bless her - even remarked - "That's at LEAST the 3rd time that Spitfire has flown past the Heinkel's Radio Mast" (Not that she had become MLG but because she had asked what it was in a previous shot (Thank God for Airfix I knew the answer!) Oh AND she made me re-tune from the "Sound from Telly) HDMI connection we have to the "Through the Home Theatre System" to hear the noise better. So ya boo sucks! As for Looking for Eric. She had NO idea who Eric Cantona was. She DID comment after seeing the clips of his goals in the movie - Wow I see what you mean, he looks almost as Good as Le Tiss She did ROFL that Steve Evets (Eric) did an uncanny impression of our Eric (minus the Eastleigh accent) (Not sure his pad up the road is quite as chaotic though) And she did say.... Oh Lord don't tell me that is what you lot used to be like on Coaches to Away days.... yep I said.. Even down to the baseball bats & paint guns in the Coach Luggage Hold....
  7. Choice. Weekend Away day to Amsterdam or Glasgow? No brainer
  8. They have a REAL problem. From where we sit with our view of reality they do not have a cat in hell's chance of staying up - Football is a mental game and a team sport. You simply cannot disrupt the Team ethic and expect a miracle. So they HAVE to offload to survive, but are gambling one win may save them... IF they only start the fire sale on Wednesday, they have two days to get players out the door and two days to sign out of contract players on a freebie. The lower Leagues are all about Journeymen trying to scrape together a career and there are numerous out of contract players there who would be ecstatic to be given a 3 month 5k a week contract, hell they could probably find comeptent players for half of that. We keep saying - It's The Hope that Kills You. In their case it COULD be true - delay shipping players out, MAY get stuck with them or get far worse deals - also less time to get FL approval for short term out of contract replacements. Tick Tock Admit it is a Dead Parrot & you are bound for L1 or you may not make the season after all
  9. ORLY? Wow, never knew that. Thanks for pointing it out.
  10. Me & Eric shout it at all of you lot all the time...
  11. TV turned up 2 classics tonight. I glued future Mrs D_P to the sofa and told her to sit down & shut up First I had spotted thanks to the thread in the Lounge about "The Greatest Sound"... Yeah the duplicate shots, the dodgy explosions, but ah the beauty of seeing the flights of Spitfires flying in formation Spent a lot of the film explaining who the mega star actors were! The Battle of Britain - 1st time she'd really understood any of what went on, but she was totally captivated by it and FINALLY understood why I had been retelling teh stories of Middle Wallop Airshow & the night an ME109 chased a Spitfire & did an impromptu Dogfight over Old Sarum airfield back in the 80"s 2nd film - another brilliant capture of "English life" but one much closer to our hearts - Looking for Eric. (No not our OSH expert) the Cantona movie. Saw it before on a plane, saw it tonight in HD, just a great portrayal of the harsh loneliness of life in the UK for many and the culture of the Footie fan. Loved both movies
  12. I see a value in them being allowed to join the FL, but then when you made this point so perfectly I have to say Yes totally agree, Play for Team GB or fook off
  13. I fully accept the Criticism, yet I do have someone else to blame.... Rickie Fecking Lambert... As mentioned on the match thread I went down at 2-1 to sort these out only for the gang to give a huge roar upstairs and call me back for the first pen... get up to hear the ball hitting the net - head back down and ... well So yeah they should have had quite a bit longer I do however undertake to try out the Proper way, next time I do a Roast Beef dinner proper like.
  14. That one in the middle looks like a sort of Tempura Shrimp But not bad.
  15. what a crock of drivel Obviously "The End of The Working Class" and Lifestyle Changes has seen a major drop in the ST holder numbers & attendances at SMS this year. But nice he does hit the nail on the head finally about their support - a hard core of around 8,500. Very few fans actually from the City. (Yes, that was mentioned some 700 or so pages back - People who wanted to watch PL Football went to Nottarf Krap from all over the south. They had no other choice) They were NEVER "fans" of that decrepid club. Oh and guess what? Many of them will be keeping regular hard core Saints fans out of SMS until we increase the capacity. But we won't care, we will welcome the extra revenues that they bring so that our ACADEMY can be made stronger and we can build for a better FUTURE
  16. OK that is out on Phi Phi Island. Trust me it really is not worth staying out there. It is a FANTASTIC place to go on a day trip - stunningly beautiful bay - the whole Leonardo Beach filmed there gig. BUT it is a SMALL Island and you really have nothing else apart from a few hotels out there. A Speedboat Day Trip can be booked from any hotel on the main Island, or even spend a couple of nights there, but more than that you'll go stir crazy AND will make the "First Timer" mistake of booking Full Board. Thailand is as much about the food, you REALLY do not need an "International Buffet" every night. Patong (main resort) has Indian, Thai, Pizza Hut McDonalds, French, Steakhouses etc. The Seafood market is a row of open air "seating areas" on the second road in from the beach where you choose your fish and they cook it. Away from the strip turning right facing the sea you can it on a beach cafe and eat Pad Thai for about 4 quid. Patong Beach Hotels are all Inverted U shapes with the U open to the sea (but with a road between hotel & sea, and all the rooms around a central set of pools). The Beach is busy and full of touts all day long, BUT it has it's quaintnness. Going out to the smaller resorts - Karon (REALLY there is no better hotel than Centara) you get more beach and less hassle but still have a choice of 8 or 10 restaurants for lunch/dinner each day and it is only a 5 quid tuk tuk fare each way into Patong. Also you have Banyan Tree and the bigger hotel resorts on their own beaches. Patong has a Micro brewery with an English Ale through to Go-Go bar areas and Lady Boy areas (actually Soi Katoy is one of the busiest areas in the evening as it is all part of "The Show" further out from Karon you have Kata again some lovely hotels stayed at KataThani on a family holiday http://www.katathani.com/ ( a PROPER beach resort) There is also a Club Med up there (All inclusive stuff). The down side we found was the cost to get into Patong was high and there were fewer local eating places so we got stuck in the hotel Restaurant a few times. Bungalow Accom in rain forest looks through trees to the sea all on a cliff so if down by the pool they have a golf buggy to get you up to the Reception & Breakfast area. The normal Beach Resort is two storey blocks looking at a pool. Rack rate is 6300 Baht but Late stays get it for around 2700 which is not far off 50 quid a night http://www.latestays.com/centara-villas-phuket/ Like I said, Karon Beach is pretty quiet but has everything you need Use AsiaWeb or Latestays to pick the town village then it lists all the hotels and the reviews and prices Google Maps to see if by the beach and TripAdvisor for independent reviews. In Bangkok if you stop over Royal President Hotel is a great value around 40 quid a night and handy for Sky Train to get around but for a bit more everyone from here loves The Amari Boulevard (SUPERIOR room) - don't pay extra for breakfast you can buy Bacon & Eggs @ foodland opposite with coffee for about 2 quid http://www.latestays.com/thailand/ www.asiawebdirect
  17. TBH, you can, you can do Phi Phi Island or some of the Andaman Islands. But 2 weeks in one hotel I've found is too much. However, with Air Asia, Bangkok Airways and One two Three Go, Phuket Air, or Orient Air whatever they are called you have a lot of Low Cost airline choices. Phuket I have been many times and around 5 or 6 nights is perfect. You can stay in the "bigger resorts" you can move from one beach area to another, but Centara is just so chilled and "romantic" You can then head to Krabi or go wider - Koh Samui, down to Malaysia Langkawi, Penang, Singapore etc or up to the North. BUT you do have to transit through Bangkok and 2 or 3 nights there just for the shopping (The Street markets in BKK are about 20%/30% cheaper than Phuket) IF you choose that route I can give you links to two great hotels in BKK. Etihad via Abu Dhabi will be cheaper than Emirates who will be cheaper than BA/Thai. Singapore are the best of course. Etihad are short on leg room, EK are short on width in the seat BUT you can fly direct out of Glasgow to Dxb then on to Asia. Just one thing though - Check your dates against Rainy Seasons. Rainy Season in Phuket means you will see THE most MoFo Shower ever each afternoon - real ROFL if you have a Brolly (Warm rain). It is a lot cheaper and you will still get mega tanned through the clouds and it is still in the 30's. We found we just got cheaper ponchos and it added to the whole fun, BUT it can curtail some of the water based stuff like Diving or Phang Nga bay trips. Phuket being also slightly Industrial has more amenities - decent Malls, Outlet Stores, Golf Courses but also the main Town Phuket is a break from "Tourist Resort."
  18. Think this is without a doubt, the nub of their problem. They harp on and on about "Their History" They bang on about the title. They are being urged to turn up as Old Pop Stars or the even older Bananaman joke. I say, let them have their History. Because this is what they deserve. In the past 10 years they have NEVER, EVER thought for one moment about Their Future. They do not have one. They are a 70's club totally unaware of the nature of Modern Football They are, without a doubt, History
  19. This. Football regained a lot of respect today with the performances of the medics and the fans
