I watched Pearl Harbour on telly this evening (the 2001 version with Kate Beckinsale before Underworld woof woof) It is dire apart from the action scenes and flying sequences which (especially the Spitfire stuff) were almosy really really good

I saw this headline and thought... Middleton spent time in Jordan Bad things OK so here is the same story in full, but..... http://www.telegraph.co.uk/news/uknews/royal-wedding/8366374/Kate-Middleton-family-photos-reveal-her-time-in-Jordan.html

Just watched Pearl Harbour 2001 for the first time with the GF the Spitfire action scenes were very good.... But it reminded me of a moment many years ago when I was in my garden cutting the lawn and I heard THAT sound.... looked up to see an ME109 hurtle over the house followed about 2 seconds later by a Spitfire. They were landing at Old Sarum. I leapt in the car and there they were, turns out that the ME109 was a rebuild but they couldn't find the orignal engine so had found a Merlin and put it in. 20+ years ago and it was a summer evening that even to this day I can remember every time I hear that sound. On a related point I was at Middle Wallop for the 50th anniversary, they had a flypast that day and something like 5 or 6 Spitfires including the two seater (made in Salisbury) Damn something I REALLY miss from home

The meaning of Life, The Universe and Everything
dubai_phil replied to dubai_phil's topic in The Saints
OK so some basic maths I did when putting the OP up. The best guess is that Saints cost ML around 14mil. In theory (as it is privately owned these days) and forgetting for a moment asset value, IF we fail to gain promotion this year, AOC will go for 10mil (probably in one lump). RL, JF are worth at least 1mil each and Adam is worth at least 2mil, making the money back. With a few others possibly wanting to get off the bus then EITHER a profit arises OR the funds could be retained. So, IN THEORY, we could sell our best assets and the new owners COULD have recovered their investment. So my view on things is that as a 1 in 100 possibility, the Liebherr family get their money back without any (currently visible) huge emotional connection, We are left with a stable club earning it's way in the world and (IN THEORY) NC could have complete control and ownership of the club for a pound which gives the family a minimal profit. So IF we don't go up, ONE scenario could be that NC owns us runs us and gets NA to build an affordable team for next year on his Scunny model. Personally, rich owners or sustainable club, NPC or L1 I think we will do well next year. I HOPE we have continued committed owners with NC at the helm, BUT if we don't I still think we will be on the start of the road upwards -
Could we have a seperate thread for Alpine bashing?
dubai_phil replied to doddisalegend's topic in The Saints
The thing about Alps is he is really in need of therapy as we can tell in the way he uses his keyboard. But nobody really can tell if he is more or less sane than the rest of us. And, IF you take a BIG step back, then although he clearly doesn't strive to achieve it, his posts manage to have that one comedic genius that Deppo often fails to match - perfect timing. Deppo makes us smile, but I don't think ANY TSW poster will EVER stop laughing when reminded of the First Ashes Test post. Pure genius, matched only (on the same day) by Sir Geoff -
Just back online, been trying to plan my trips to the pub to watch football. I don't suppose anyone knows when England are playing Wales by any chance?

Ah ha, so 17mil of transfer fees owed from this appear to have been paid by the PL directly from Parachute payments Still do not see any comment in this excerpt about any Agents Fees (one source of dispute) but another 5mil of dues to players not paid from parachute, so 22mil of year one parachute money gone. left them with 6mil (If my fag packet maths is right Then Chinny is charging 20% interest and then the Admin costs, so basically they had no parachute this year AND there doesn't appear to have been enough to pay Chinny back any of his loan capital this year. So next year more interest and still capital repayments to make. They REALLY have to go up don't they

Is as we all know 42. Which is exactly how many points are now up for grabs in our remaining 14 matches until the end of the season. 42 points, possibly THE most important points we will ever try and win IMHO. Thought it would be fun to give the Happy's and the Wristy's the chance to put their money where their attitudes are. What will the meaning of our lives be IF we do not get enough points to get up automatically and fail in the play offs? What scenarios do you see? Why do us fans need to STFU with the moaning and push the team over the line? I'll put my prediction up later to avoid starting the fight!

If the idiots in the film had bothered to spend a couple of days reading the book before they went to that Island they wouldn't have (nearly) all got eaten

If you could say just one word to any Saints player past or present?

You should live more than 3,000 miles away. Each trip to watch a game should cost you in excess of 600 pounds in air fares and car rentals You should sit up until at least 2am to listen to intermittent commentary You should buy at least one rubbish quality Polo or Tee-Shirt each visit and you should also have bought a full set for your (in many cases) foreign girlfriend or wife. You should spend hours surfing indecipherable foreign language web sites to attempt to see where and when your team might be shown on telly and you will spend an average of an hour a week on Skype or the mobile discussing all matters Saints with your buddies. Anything less than that and you are only a pathetic uber-fan

We won't stand a chance. Mitchell will have assembled all the Dark Forces and will be leading the team in a voodoo worship ceremony before the game. (you know that was a voodoo tattoo don't you) Shouldn't even turn up, we'll just embarrass ourselves and then we'll never hear the last of it from Boscombe boys
-
Quick quick - Somebody get round to faraway's place - he's a yarpie & needs the Heimlich Manouvere or he'll choke Well we didn't see that coming (expecially as I don't have it on the telly - lol)
-
Lol isn't that the most blatantly obvious post ever :-) Let's just revisit our recent past Souness not backed Dave Jones (difficult position but had to leave as it wasn't good to back him) 'Arry - well, C'mon let's face it he's pretty rubbish at Spuds Pearson Go elsewhere and you could add in Jose at Chelsea etc etc etc Being a successful MANAGER in ANY type of job is about TWO way role - you manage your employees for sure, but you MUST also manage your manager. AP - Nicko I need to buy a Centre Forward for 1mil - a year ago - no problemo Al baby. This summer? 'Arry to Rupes in the pL - I need to buy a CB - no way you dodgy peice of poopey slime go ask SCW. If the relationship is BAD then it affects the performance of the manager - players don't like their boss - they won't play for him. "He loses the dressing room" It ain't rocket science to understand that the same happens up the chain. NC is a single minded focused wants success at costs man. Does NOT mean he is not a complete c**k to work for. I'm sure MANY on here have seen their performance drop off in a job somewhere simply becausse they couldn't manage their manager, often through no fault of their own
-
IF everything in the garden had been rosy then no doubt we would have walked this League. But it wasn't. There was friction between AP & NC and an entire close & pre-season did not resolve that situation. That was a fault of NC as he was one of the parties to whatever breakdown in relationship occurred, But it was also a fault of AP who could have accepted whatever conflict was occuring and worked within it. So with ML still around at the time NC wasn't going to be fired. AP held his ground or principles or whatever else happened and there was a clear conflict. So IF AP had stayed that would have eaten away like a cancer, ergo he could not stay, ergo any comparison or If Only scenario is flawed from the beginning. IF AP had stayed in that situation I personally do not believe we would even be in the play off places. AP would have lasted another month or two and still been fired. That's reality IMHO. In La La land where everything stayed rosy & NC listened when having a conversation with anyone, we'd have been top

Yeah so the whole tournament is on pitches that turn miles and favour the spinners and we take Yardy who has totally lost form since the ODI's in Aus. Look at the SA line up 7 bowlers used and loads of tweakers. Just felt we are too rigid in our best team concept in these tournaments (look how long it took to drop Colly) as well as being burnt out from the Ashes. Luckily we'll now get knocked out by WI and won't have to worry about it
-
We never learn do we. The Walsall build up thread was full of we're gonna score 3 or 4 gonna be a piece of cake, blah blah blah. The Colchester Build up was worried about the game, tough team bogey side. And look back at Tranmere & Notts County build ups as well. The fact is that it seems pretty clear that we as fans change our tune according to the league position & the result in our last match, and at the same time the TEAM appears to do the same. So from now until the end of the season we have to grind out results, we have to battle for the right to play our football and we have to understand that luck, bad bounces of the ball and inconsistent refereeing will all have an impact. IF we go out with that mindset and battle then we will break down soms teams and wallop them, but more important we will pick up wins when our passing game cannot be imposed due to conditions, opposition tactics, referees or sheer plain bad luck. I don't give a damn how we win between now and the end of the season but I sure as hell would take a 1-0 win in a rubbish game in all of them.

Colchester 0 - 2 Saints - Post Match Reaction

I've been blaming the Wild Mushrooms I brought back from a Polish Deli in Boscombe for my weird weekend, but have to say I'd love a pint of what you've been on. Oh and if you want to make a nice little side earner, bottle some up & send to the Eastern Med, Austria & that place in the fridge where the cooking fat is kept -
Not only are we bigger than the other 3 South Coast clubs, but our Culinary skills outstrip them by a country mile. Now, if only we could become the least arrogant club on the South Coast (after we have beaten them all next season in the NPC)

Has become a surprise bestseller, selling out on Amazon Online at 4.69 a pop. As the article says I have to say that I do not think a more accurate book has EVER been printed http://www.telegraph.co.uk/culture/books/booknews/8358538/What-Every-Man-Thinks-About-Apart-From-Sex-book-of-blank-pages-become-surprise-bestseller.html Yes the contents are totally blank pages. After ROFL'ing it made me think, what other books could we dream up from here? The Alpine Book of Positive Thinking.....

I've heard that Saints injury problems have been compounded of late because Connelly has now become stuck to the Physio's table

The opposition forward was left feeling a right t1t as Kelvin made the save look so easy (well it is on the right hand side of the photo if not actually KD's right one....)
