Was Lowe a lot closer to being right than we give him credit for?
dubai_phil replied to trousers's topic in The Saints
An equally valid tale on this delay is that it would be next to impossible to actually set the level of pricing when the club do not know themselves whether they will be in League 1 next season? Somehow if we go down I would expect the season tickets and admission prices to reflect the new realities of the opposition and be 20-30% cheaper. How many early birds would be on here screaming if that happened. And the idea of giving refunds? no because the ST money is linked to the bond payments and the overdraft and I can't see THEM wanting to give a refund. (mind you still think the delay is due to possible admin) -
Remember when Brett Omerod scored 40+ goals for Blackpool in a season so we signed him.... Wonder where his nose for goal went? (No I wasn't comparing BO with DMG, but it does happen)

I gotta cut back on the beer on a Tuesday night. All a bit odd getting home after a txt saying we'd won 3-0 and I thought I'd woken up sober, but can't be otherwise this would be a true thread and they really said those things about us!

I still think we'll get beaten at Birmingham though

Sort of agree with you. The build up of confidence and winning mentality is great, they sound like they are playing well and we seem to play better against teams in the top half, but I also think because of the inexperience we may need a reverse to set us on the road for the rest of the season - it's sort of what always happens to us, but I do feel we now have a chance of getting enough points as long as we don't crash badly or get injuries/suspensions -

oops. Maybe Lowe has been right to try and match our income and expenditure (if not with his footballing decisions). This article I found today could be a real issue for the gravy train of "free money" from TV. Setanta considering giving back tv rights across many sports....... Is this the end of the beginning again? or will ESPN ride to the resuce and pay up top dollar and keep the PL players & agents in bling? http://www.telegraph.co.uk/sport/football/leagues/premierleague/4934482/Cash-strapped-Setanta-ready-to-hand-back-TV-contracts.html -
Ah the morning after the night before...... Just feels GOOD for a change. We are still in deep trouble, I really hope the team have taken on board confidence but not Happy Clappy complacency, we all know how that can work. Somehow I think Wotte will keep them more focused on the job in hand, he is still - in his OWN words - a "rubbish manager" because until we are mathematically safe he could still fail to keep us up and again - as he said it is his results which determine how he will be judged. For now, it seems we finally have somebody who knows what they are doing, doing what needs to be done, and blimey - look at that - it is working. Let us hope it can keep going and get the 4 or so more wins we will need to stay up. Not happy clappy but boy after a couple of years down in the dumps doesn't even this little spark feel good. Keep it up guys, we're counting on you to disprove your own theory MW and become the best since WGS and maybe more

-
Just back from the pub, we had a celebration for getting our trade licence after one year of work and were p*ssed before the txt's started coming in. Suffice to say I really did NOT give a t*ss about looking like a tw*t leaping up and running around going YEEEAAARRRGGGGGHHHHHHHH. Long way to go but Wotte's going on?

Seeing as it is the PLAYERS who we want to be motivated by the music when THEY run on the pitch, how about we let THEM choose? Oh what's that? They did. But we're still debating other choices in the 457th thread on the same subject

Now THERE is a line from a Saints manager that we have not heard in a few years! All those Burley tinkerings and the JP lotto. Hope it works

Lol - how come this never made it to a caption competition!

Nice country, with a lot of very nice people. But a very large amount of VERY nasty people. Many of whom were made that way in good old blighty by the "asylum seeking nutters" who were allowed to take over some of the Mosques. But this was an event that was always going to happen and because of the internal politics of the "ruling elites" in ****stan always being in denial of their problems, the country is not far off becoming another Afghanistan. To have allowed the SWAT valley area to become Taliban controlled is the thin end of the wedge. I went there some 11 years ago and it was one of the most stunning places on earth. Now it is simply one of the most dangerous because of neglect and incompetence at the top. Many good friends and business colleagues over there and I used to go across and be looked after so well. Now they are really worried. An interesting anecdote from friends there - they kicked out all their "trash" in the 60's and 70's and the UK took the lot of them, radicalised them and now is letting them go back and fook up their country.

Now let's just have a think back shall we..... How successful were WE when we let the world know we wanted to get investment in? Precisely. Maybe like what happened with Man City, professionals with money prefer to do their business in board rooms NOT the media or the internet

Somebody posted on here that this idea COULD have been a ruse to buy us extra time with the bank. They would have taken the ST early bird money and simply reduced the overdraft giving us no benefit from the cash. Possibly still leading to admin. That seems sensible to me The idea that nasty Rupe's may have pulled a fast one on the bank by making them wait could have bought us time, what for I have no idea. It is almost smart - we have a better chance of knowing what League we will be in and can price accordingly, not to mention avoiding the pain of people paying and "becoming creditors" if we went into admin early. Now where's the yacht....... oh

HEY this was MY idea earlier in the season.... Luker - where's MY ticket for posting this idea!! :-)

According to Drew :smt042 http://www.dailymail.co.uk/sport/football/article-1158381/Southampton-1-Cardiff-0-Jones-fumes-Saints-hit-Bluebirds-promotion-bid.html Midfielder Andrew Surman pointed out another group of people should also take credit for Saints' recent success - the Kings of Leon. 'We got our pre-match music changed to give us a lift when we came out. Sand Storm by Darude used to bring us out, but now it's Sex on Fire.'
-
Well, here's the answer to the OP then http://www.dailymail.co.uk/sport/football/article-1158381/Southampton-1-Cardiff-0-Jones-fumes-Saints-hit-Bluebirds-promotion-bid.html ...... striker Marek Saganowski says new boss Mark Wotte is right to select more experienced players, after previous manager Jan Poortvliet picked mainly youngsters. 'He likes to play older players, which is good because you need experience in the position we are in,' said Saganowski, 30. See we're not the only ones who think it was "bleedin obvious"

The utter madness of the Poortvliet experiment

I liked a comment from someone else somewhere on here along the lines of Lowe telling the bank he wouldn't do an early bird scheme - so the bank don't get cash...... Also I WORRY that Lowe may have found some finance to keep us going (oh heck I hope not and expect not) So I go with the view - to hell with the bank, let's go down fighting and pray for a rescue -
You must be referring to Alpine there then, nobody else sees it that way, think most have only found some hope

Here's a question for you....... Saga was fantastic for us when he was on loan He went "off the boil" when he had a contract (according to many on here) He went out on loan and played in the Champions League after playing in the Euro's So, my question - (in the spirit of Trousers' thread) Is it possible that we are LUCKY he went out on loan in that his current rich vein of form is down to him having played regularly at a higher level for half the season? (and no I don't think it was a good idea sending him out, but MAYBE with the mess of the JP days, HE was better off NOT being here and now we are reaping the rewards)
-
I agree we would likely have been more than 10 points better off, but please as others have said, don't fall into the trap of thinking that the ONLY penalty for admin would be a 10 point deduction. It would be a heck of a lot worse than that. We do not ACTUALLY know how bad things were, opinions are valid but we lack the FULL facts on what had to be done versus what some stupid doctrine WISHED to have happen. Meanwhile yes word for word on your last paragraph and yes not keeping ONE playing was insane but I've said that enough elsewhere

 I did a similar analysis a while ago so I did know the answer, just didn't want to leave a get out clause in there. -

Perhaps the wisest course of action for those who've posted on here who were around the area Anyone with information can contact Shirley CID in Southampton on 0845 045 45 45 or the Crimestoppers charity 0800 555 111, quoting Operation Supervisor.
