  1. There's a definite need to keep flights going for that reason. What's terrible is the fact people are still stepping off planes here and being allowed to just waltz out of the airport without being tested or having enforced quarantine.

  3. No. I'm going to bed. Hopefully someone will have the right answer by the morning.
  4. Which player scored the winning penalty in a shoot out against Oxford to see Saints triumph in the inaugural Ted Bates Trophy?
  5. Fulham? Were they 2 leagues below when Barry Hayles played for them?
  6. Eddie Howe and other members of the Bournemouth hierarchy are taking "voluntary" pay cuts after their bad press earlier.

Because one incident is obviously representative of the whole of the police force? You know it's likely that at the same time one of his colleagues in another department is putting the final touches to a case file which convicts a paedo? The copper who is talking could have done without leaning on the wall but nothing he said was technically incorrect. Someone has complained about a public order offence so he is going to find out more details and ask the guy if he would volunteer for an interview. He definitely should have offered to take more details regarding the theft and had a look into it though. I'd suggest that the couple outside could well be new student officers who have been taken along to observe. But yeah, you carry on bashing the police.

Before this started they were busy dealing with the sort of crime that isn't now happening. For example it takes an inordinate amount of time and people to deal with the sort of cretins who go out on a weekend evening, get hammered and have a fight. One fight, maybe 3 or 4 police to deal with. Drive the van to the station. Custody officers take over. Put them in a cell. Detectives then have to interview them all, plus any witnesses. Statements are taken and logged. Further enquiries happen. More statements. Now we have maybe 10 people involved trying to sort it out. All of these people have paperwork to complete, 3 months later they are warned for court. One murder takes up the time of maybe 50 officers and staff, in fact probably far more. Serious Crime team, specialist units, search teams, detectives, analysts, door to door enquiries, scene guards, victim support, safeguarding. I could go on. There's loads of other examples of crime that isn't happening now because most of the country are sat at home. People have been moved roles from departments with current low levels of work to go out on patrol. I'm not really sure why this is hard to understand? Would you prefer the teams who are currently dealing with less crime to be sat around out of sight or out on the streets? One minute people moan the police don't have enough of a visible presence and then when they have it people complain there's too many of them.

Quite often forces react to either Government direction or an HMIC report. So if a force is deemed to have a below average response to Domestic Abuse they will then ramp up training and victim support to get them to where they are expected to be. HMIC may then come back and inspect them again to make sure this has happened (it's basically like OFSTED for police) Possibly this is what happened in the Met with Hate Crime although it has been a government priority over the past 18 months or so.

If people are going around racially abusing Chinese students in Southampton because they think it's their fault people in the UK are catching the virus then they quite rightly should be dealt with. Luckily in this area that seems to have been an isolated incident. General crime is way down at the moment because of the lockdown, although unfortunately domestics are going up dramatically.

Owton's are quality. I thought everyone around Southampton already went there? Unity have started home delivering if you need some decent beer.

Strong measures although still some things open to interpretation. It's obvious by the lack of traffic that a lot of people are already staying at home but there's loads of companies who will still be telling their staff to come in because they don't want to lose money.

Lockdown is coming. Maybe not tonight but Boris will update from today's COBRA meeting later.
  15. We had Hugo Schekter as the player liaison officer before he left and went to West Ham. The general rule for foreign players coming in was to put them in the De Vere and then find them a permanent place to live, often Ocean Village. They used to do an awful lot for players. Some would get driven everywhere, they'd get help with things like paying bills etc, basically everything you'd need to know when moving to another country. Some players were obviously more demanding than others. This help often extended to family members. For example I believe Schneiderlin's girlfriend was driven to London quite a lot to go to Uni. I heard a story about Pelle giving someone his credit card and getting them to buy him a dining table on Xmas Eve because he his family were visiting but he had nowhere for them to sit. Not sure what we have in place these days although I'd imagine they still get a lot of help.

Good news. That's certainly going to add some much needed staff and resources.

It's the fear of what might happen, that the beds will be overwhelmed with patients, that people with other serious illnesses might not get the care they need because the hospitals are full of people with the virus. Yes, he's seen pretty much everything. Limbs hanging off, people dying in front of him, patients with stuff rammed up their butts. The difference is this is new and unknown. The staff don't have the equipment or resources they need to do their job.

My sister is a paramedic and my brother in law an A&E consultant. She just messaged me this: "Matt came home from work early this morning a different man. He was quiet and withdrawn and shocked at the change he'd seen overnight in A&E. He told me 2 junior doctors from St Thomas are in ICU. This has ramped up to crazy levels and it's only the beginning. In a few weeks when hospitals are at their limits we'll have to leave the elderly at home to die and save the young. I love my job but I'm petrified to go to work. Stay safe and stay indoors."
  19. We never did get to that magical 36 point contract renewal stage that Ralph mentioned. Does this mean Shane Long won't get offered one now? Joking aside there will be a whole load of players who might find they get offered substantially lower terms because clubs will be trying to save costs after losing out on cash.
  20. Being said locally that the person in Southampton who passed away from the virus was the old Sholing supporter who has helped out at the club for years. This isn't confirmed so I'm not mentioning his name just in case.
  21. Presumably this will be cancelled along with an absolute load of other gigs and shows. I went to a gig at Heartbreakers last night, probably the last for a while. There were maybe 50 people there, quite a few who had tickets didn't turn up after Boris's "don't go out but we aren't closing pubs" speech. Pretty grim times for the live entertainment industry, although a small chink of light today that they are suspending business rates for a year. The Joiners has started a GoFundMe to keep them open and have over 50% of the total donated already in half a day. It's vital that small venues and promoters make it through these times because the industry will collapse without them. Whether you go to gigs, just enjoy music or have pride in our city this is an important thing to support. There's some amazing people working tirelessly to make Southampton a well recognised city for shows and we've been lucky enough to have some incredible acts booked here in the past couple of years. Speak to most live music fans around the country and The Joiners is a name they will recognise. It's much, much more than just a pub with a back room and a stage. https://www.gofundme.com/f/help-us-survive-corona-virus

Good to see our Saints supporting chancellor bringing some well needed assurance to businesses. I'm no Tory supporter but he does seem to be speaking some sense. A quick look on twitter shows that his announcements are going down well with most people which is a strange situation for a politician to be in.

My partner's school have sent all pregnant teachers and high risk staff home and will have no kids from next week. Son's school are giving certain year groups days off to make sure they have the staff to keep teaching Year 11's who are doing GCSE's. I work for the Police as a staff member. We are pretty much all still there although people are being allowed to work more from home. Problem is we need to keep training running as much as possible because we're in the initial stages of recruiting a huge number of new officers that are desperately needed.
