Arsenal - worst fans in football?
Fan The Flames replied to Legod Third Coming's topic in The Saints
There is something going on at Arsenal, it was always quiet but you had noise in the North Bank and Clock End, did these areas not coalesce properly when the new ground was opened or are they just lost in its vastness, and there are no old style roofs that used to hold the noise. When at Highbury my mate was 30000 on the season ticket waiting list, after a couple of years at TE he was offered a ST, now 30000 people before him surely didnt take up a ST. Some would have and some it would no longer be what they want and some, like my mate, couldn't afford one. But the ground still sells out (or very near to it), the club has to pull them in from some where and the crowd probably do reflect the gentrified areas of North London. The point to my ramble is economics suggests there was latent demand from non traditional fans, Arsenal now provide the supply but at a cost that prohibits traditional fans. But the have got to the last stages of the CL for 14 years in a row. What do we want football fans. By the way aren't we worst fans, highest cost of a team assembled ever, best position for 30 years, best football played for a generation in a nice stadium and we don't fill it. -
Rickie Lambert: Sports Personality of the Year?
Fan The Flames replied to jawillwill's topic in The Muppet Show
There is more to sport than just elite winners, sport is about doing your best and striving to continually improve yourself and Rickies 'journey' is a perfect example of that. Not SPOTY but worth an honourable mention. -
Why do people get so uptight over a bunch of pseudonyms for body parts. Strange world where its ok to say vagina but not **** or penis but not cock. Swear words only have the power we apply to them.

What's the new saying 'first world problems'. I would be ashamed to complain about this.

The whole premiss of CiN is for celebs to be seen doing something; they are doing something and you are so its a joint enterprise with the beloved celebs. It is all very visible but thats why it raised 31m. You seemed to be missing quiet a lot of points on this thread.

Even bigger w@nker then, not picking MLT to avenge some ancient slight. just because we were the minority it doesn't mean we were wrong.

He has used AL as the example, but to me AL was called up to the England first squad at the right time. His form wasn't the best last season and prior to that he was playing outside the prem. Now his form is hot and his confidence is high and we have a couple of decent friendlies to try out new players. The disconnect with AL and England has been at lower level, he was never fancied there by Stuart Peace and the others.

It's been a really good listen, it's great to hear all the positive pieces on us. We really are in dreamland.

What's the matter with you lot. I know we won't win every game and we will be beaten by lesser sides, I know how brilliant it is to be third in the league. Im not slagging the team off, I know it's against forum rules. I'm simply saying that MOTM and two new call ups doesn't make up in my opinion for the last two results, even if they are expected to happen at sometime. I don't care that Roy has chosen to pick them or that MP has got a bauble, it will have little impact on our season.
-
It was said at the beginning of the game so you can discount four home league wins and being third. MOTM and three players in the England squad doesn't make up for a draw against the third bottom club and a cup exit to the second bottom club. A string of home wins is great, but if we have any pretensions of finishing up the top end of the table we have to beat teams that came up last year or teams around the relegation zone.
-
Also what is this nonsense about us having a brilliant week, we were knocked out of the cup. A draw at Stoke, a cup elbow at Sunderland and a couple of England call ups doesn't in my opinion make for a brilliant week.

If I pick a couple more they will have to change the countries name to Southamptongland

I agree with the OP, we used to travel without tickets all the time and Ive never failed to get in to a match yet, be it through ticket touts, normal people, complimentary tickets or finding a way in the ground. I've been over the fence at the Goldstone, squeezed in two at a time in the turn styles at Elm Park, got given complimentary tickets in the players wives stand at Dellhurst Park, was in the away end at the recent Coventry promotion game, bought Wayne Bridge comp tickets in a pub at Charlton, got into a FA Caup semi at Old Trafford for a tenner, got a ticket in Brighton for the last game at the Dell. The best was Dellhurst Park, couldn't get in for love or money there just wasn't any spares going at all, I got to the ground four hours early and kept popping up there from the high street to see what was occurring. The word went up that the ticket office had a few more tickets so we all steam around there to find a a huge crowd and the ticket office closed, we tried to buy our way in at the turn styles and exit gates but nothing was happening. Just about to give up when we had one last walk around the ground and five minuets before KO we approached this fit black lad (must have been a player) in the car park with a coat draped over his shoulders and a bird on each arm, he pulled out a book of tickets and gave the three of us tickets. It was a real Wonka moment, brilliant.
