  1. And therein lies the problem. We've always had - and always will have - colloquialisms, dialects, and slang. Forum talk / textspeak are just new versions of that and they have their place. But anyone using them still needs to know the correct English and be able to use it when required. Without that central point of reference we could soon get to the stage where we are unable to converse. An example I know one person who used "cd" in texts to mean "could" whilst someone else uses "cld". I read both as "could". As long as we all know that it means "could" then not a problem but if, a couple of generations down the line the descendants on one only ever us cd because they think it's actually the correct way of spelling it, and the others descendants always use "cld" for the same reason then the two won't have a clue what each other are talking about.
  2. Course not. When you've had one Chinese half hour later you always want another one
  3. The map is just what was dropped over 2 nights not the entire was - there was plenty more to come
  4. Ditto
  5. So if that's not outright racism what is? Yet you consider it an "issue about which they have no concern" I'll ask again what Dune is asking, why aren't the UAF protesting against this ?
  6. Why? He hasn't claimed that. He's stated - correctly - that they turn a blind eye to them i.e decline to criticise them whilst objecting to other forms of extremism / racism. That's not the same as openly supporting them, although sometimes silence can speak volumes.
  7. I guess only time will tell, but I think a lot of people think of them as the same thing. I have a poppy collection tin in my shop every year, so far this year there seems to be more people putting money in than recent years. Also more kids seem interested in what it's about rather than just asking mum or Dad a poppy because it's there. Also had 2 French women come in purely to buy poppies because they'd seen the sticker in the window, they fully understood what it represented.
  8. To be fair I don't think he has either. Benjii's argument makes about as much sense as saying we shouldn't ignore people who try and stop others from wearing those red ribbons on World Aids Day because by doing so they are encouraging homosexuality. Poppies are a way of showing support for soldiers who are in a position to need our help because they have become injured/disabled/whatever whilst serving our country. Doesn't matter if it happened in a world war, The Falklands, Iraq or a training exercise, the soldier is affected just the same

    Torture

In an ideal everyone would live in peace and harmony. But it's not an ideal world. We are at war with terrorist extremists. And as the saying goes, "All's fair in love and war"

  12. Someone should point out to them that for as long as we've been at SMS, whenever we are at home in the early rounds of FA/Carling/JPT matches we are consistently amongst the highest, if not THE highest attendances of the round. Why? Because we get the price levels right for the game in question.
  13. Meanwhile, in another world, far far away, Dundee deducted a massive 25 points for going into administration !
  14. Aitch , it shouldn't even be open for discussion. Not only does Haitch sound wrong it even feels physically wrong in your throat when you say it. Having said that I'm the only person I know that pronounces "nearly" to rhyme with early instead of yearly. A habit I've never got out of, but as I don't know anyone else that says it that way I don't even know where I got it from in the first place.
  15. Damn 3 a day rule, had to wait 2 hours to post this Baj, what legal implications are there? The only details of what benefits subscribing gives you I can find are if I click the "Subscribe now" link at the top of the page. All that mentions is No mention of exclusive ability to start threads.
  16. Why not try a subscribed members only Poll to gauge the balance of their opinion on this.
  17. What Ess said. If I want to discuss Anthony Pulis* I have 2 options (well 3 if you include paying my fiver) 1) Wait for someone to start a thread about him. 2) Mention him on a thread about something totally different and hope to divert that thread off-topic. As I can't be arsed to do either I (and sounds like I'm far from alone) simply don't bother. *This was an eaxample, I have no wish to start a Pulis discussion
  18. Me too. Took the wife to see Alice in Wonderland 3d at the Imax. Rest of the audience was ducking and oohing and aahing, I spent most of the film trying glasses upside down, back to front, contact lens in, out, eyes crossed, uncrossed etc - everything just looked normal Chris Evans was reporting the other day being shown a new hologram type of transmission which he reckoned makes todays HD and 3D tvs look as outdated as a b&w set. He honestly thought it was a wind up and they'd simply stuck a real person in front of him.
  19. Always assumed it was a childish attempt at retaliation for the (universally accepted as genuine) Skate insult, based on absolutely no evidence whatsoever except for the tenuous fact that we are closer to the New Forest than them

  21. If you have problems with Virgin forget the usual channels and contact them on Twitter via @virginmedia . The team on there get things sorted in no time.
  22. At least one commentator, I think it's John Motson, insists on calling it that every time he commentates from there.
  23. You 're right. Came out on a high having witnessed 10 goals only to hear that HMS Sheffield had been sunk by the Argies before we even reached the car, put a slight damper on the evening

  25. Was expecting the "man dressed up as strange animal" type mascot, not the kids. Now that was funny
