Terrorist Attacks - WARNING: CONTAINS DISTRESSING IMAGES

Totally agree. Politicians tend to speak much more sense and are more of one voice when they arent grandstanding for votes. That hat and weird lighting for a debate programme though. Looked more like he was going into a saxophone solo. -

That would be cushier and easier to escape from than prison. -

Interesting study of attitudes to IS in different countries. Most had negative attitudes to IS except in Pakistan where although only a minority declare support over nearly thirds say they 'dont know' which reads to me to be more like 'rather not say'. Also intresting is that in countries with mixed religious beliefs the Muslims werent much more supportive than Buddhists or Christians, which suggests lack of access to information in country. http://www.pewresearch.org/fact-tank/2015/11/17/in-nations-with-significant-muslim-populations-much-disdain-for-isis/ -

tbf there were violent jihadists living in this country but the brothers enabled their travel to Syria where they were killed. Its kind of a good news story. -
Thats a large part of it imo. Image is unfortunately a big part of getting people to trust you.

Antibiotic resistance: World on cusp of 'post-antibiotic era'
buctootim replied to doddisalegend's topic in The Lounge
And thats in a country with relatively good vetinary and farming practice. Some countries use antibiotics for farm animals as a treatment for outbreaks of disease but many use massive amounts as prophylactics - ie to prevent the disease which is inevitable from stocking too many animals in too small a space. Chile for example uses 1,000 times more antibiotics in its farmed salmon than Norway does. And what happens it you add antibiotics to sea creatures in pens? it leaches out and hgets into wild fish at low doses, perfect for breeding resistance. http://oceana.org/blog/chilean-salmon-industry-found-use-highest-amount-antibiotics-worldwide -
Antibiotic resistance: World on cusp of 'post-antibiotic era'
buctootim replied to doddisalegend's topic in The Lounge
I don't think its extreme. almost every problem this planet (and humanity) faces is directly linked to over population - from climate change and species extinctions to food and asset prices. If you look at the population charts we were relatively stable at around 250-300m for at least 2,000 years until the advent of modern science. -

All because we insisted on using them so we could pack more animals into smaller spaces when they would otherwise die. Criminally dumb. If it really happens it will quickly sort out the over population problem. -

Not the best preparation https://citizentv.co.ke/sports/panic-as-harambee-stars-trip-to-cape-verde-is-delayed-by-over-8-hours-106372/ "The country’s football fraternity was thrown into panic on Monday after national team Harambee Stars delayed to take off for Cape Verde by over 8 hours. The team was first unwilling to depart for their return fixture against Cape Verde over unpaid allowances, with some of the international players claiming a refund of the air tickets they purchased to honour the first leg encounter in Nairobi. After the issue was resolved, the players travelled to Wilson Airport ready to depart for Cape Verde but the trip was delayed after the owner of the airplane demanded payment before the trip. The turn of events left the team stranded at the airport, with many concerned over whether they will get to Cape Verde and rest ahead of the kickoff slated for 4pm. The incident had infuriated Kenyans with most football fans calling for the arrest of FKF President Sam Nyamweya over the disorganisation. Through the hashtag #ArrestNyamweya, Kenyans expressed their displeasure with the FKF boss and his management team for failing to settle the players’ arrears. The Kenyan team finally managed to travel, minutes past 7:30pm, following intervention by the government. Reports indicate that Sports Cabinet Secretary Hassan Wario arrived at the airport and facilitated travel arrangements for the team saying he had learned of the situation through the media and social media."

Security at St Mary's in light of the Paris attacks

I think it was reported they turned up when the game was well under way, almost over in fact - which would have aroused suspicion and also ensured that few people were milling around. -

Lets face it, if they were good practising Muslims or Christians they mostly wouldnt be in prison. The fact that most of the recent European bombers and terrorists have a criminal record for things like drugs would suggest they arent really muslims. Claiming a religious belief to justify theft, rape, slavery, war and sadism seems closer to the truth to me. -

Southampton bid for Cheltenham Town's 16-year-old prospect Luke Thomas?

I never had you down as a slow reader CB. Most football books you can read whilst queuing up at the till in Tescos.

Not only that, but one who was manager 7 years before he was born!

Exactly this. Meet deadly force with deadly force, but I never want Britain to become the kind of country where we shoot first just in case - like the US where a 12 year old with an airgun can get blown away.

I dont have a problem with military intelligence under any circumstances nor current governments spying on the general population. The problem is that, as Doddisalegend said, once you have given up hard won liberties they are pretty much gone for good and the bulwarks which protect us from a totalitarian regime who would want to wipe out all opposition are weakened. -

I was genuinely shocked to read the intelligence services already employ 10,000 people and the Government is going to give them another 1,800. You have to question whether we are all so paranoid about security that we are prepared to give up essential liberty . I know that sounds a bit St George but there is a difference. -

Its an ignorant post but doesn't justify arrest.
