  1. Thats less subservient than kneeling or bowing imo. Hand kissing used to be quite common.
  2. If you sold both in January it would destroy the team's morale and end any claim to be aiming for CL. IF JayRod was back, fully fit and scoring I'd sell Pelle for £30m and keep Mane until the summer.
  3. So the budget of my local authority is £227m and the CEO is paid £148,000. How do you save £68m from that? Maybe your bank nurse should hand some of her money back? or is that different?

  6. Interesting that half the team spent years being relatively unsuccessful, playing for fairly lowly clubs before hitting the heights later in their careers.
  7. I think they genuinely have very little idea of the impact of doctrinaire policies in practice. The ministers have no experience of the services they are responsible for and normally neither do the civil servants implementing the minister's policy. Its classic blind leading the blind, in search of the massive mythical pile of waste waiting to be cut for no pain gains. The paradox is that their changes frequently mean more bureacracy, not less I used to work at a teaching hospital, one of only two non clinical managers in a department of over 600 staff. The advent of the Tories' internal market which was supposed to increase competition and efficiency resulted in the forced recruitment of another 16 people - data collectors, contract managers, expensive IT systems and support staff. These additional people wee employed to require the doctors and nurses to log and code every activity they did, taking time away from patient care. The data was then collated so the hospital could negotiate contracts with the Healthy Authority - who had also massively scaled up staffing. Nett result c30 extra admin staff and probably 12% of clinical time spent form filling so productivity down by around 17%. One day in a subsequent job I was relating to my CEO how crazy that reorganisation was. she happily piped up "oh I designed that!" very proud she was too. After talking to her it turns out she had spent most of her mandarin years in the Home office but had spent two years in the Department of Health. No experience of health or of markets but nonetheless designed the system we are all now stuck with. The Conservatives will tell you it is driving choice and efficiency. You can cut waste in heath services by cutting out the fat that ill advised government policies force it to carry. Perhaps the worst thing the internal market has done is to erode the public service ethos and replace it with a market mentality. Government has said to staff for years -" you're old fashioned, you need to compete in the market, the market decides value and worth". Guess what? eventually people have listened. You have CEOs earning three times what they did before. Nurses who wont work directly employed but will earn three times more as bank staff. You reap what you sow.

  9. Was Kelvin Davis still in goal?
  10. To paraphrase. van Gaal / Man U treat the players badly but pay them so much money they dont care.

  12. A lot of people still do unfortunately. 10-15 years ago I thought the growth of the internet and multiple digital channels would make us all better informed and less hostage to biased reporting. Instead all it seems to have done is cripple the serious newspapers and give airtime to any crackpot out there. Reasonably objective and informed news is harder to find than ever before imo.
  13. Thanks very much! I wonder what he means by physicality. That can either be a fitness issue due to the faster tempo of the English game and the pressing Saints use, or a size and bulk issue due to more pushing shoving and harder tackling.
  14. I came back from Minneapolis shortly after 9/11 and while the anthrax scare was raging so security was supposedly heightened and there were National Guard everywhere in the airport. Big lines to go through security, which was thorough. Trouble was anybody who wanted to smoke was happily allowed out again to the front of the terminal and not rechecked when they came back. Great flight back, maybe 40 people on a plane capable of carrying 300. Five seats to my self and slept 7.5 hours.
  15. Ooh. Mane to Bayern shocker.
  16. Its the 'look at me style' which is risible. If he's got something to say post it up without the drum rolls.

  18. Whereas Cameron's father jailed people for peaceful protest against nukes at Greenham common and his brother defended Rebekah Brookes in her phone tapping trial.
  19. I just think its better done at home on the NHS, clearly and openly . The current situation is a legal fudge of smoke and mirrors anyway. Very few people actually die of cancer, they die of a heroin overdose which suppresses their breathing. Legally this is a side effect of pain control - you have to keep raising the dose to effectively control the pain, until eventually they drift away. Its a humane, gentle way out administered by doctors with the patient's interests at heart. The assisted suicide problems largely come with patients who have unbearable terminal illnesses with symptoms which dont justiify painkilling opiates so some may die unpleasant and avoidable deaths.
  20. Because under the current law a dying woman has to fundraise using the pity of strangers to travel to Switzerland and her daughters are at risk of criminal charges. Its striking that 96% of the people responding to thr poll after the Welsh story want a change in thre law.
  21. Its more like 15 seconds standing up two or three seats before they get to you, waiting for them to pass and sitting down again. Multiply that by 10 or 15 and you've missed half of the last 5-10 minutes. Multiply that by four for the late arrivals, early leavers at half time, late arrivals at half time. One old guy who I used to sit near had to move from his season seat because he found it hard to keep getting up and down.
  22. Odd that you always parrot back whatever insult someone has just recently called you. Admittedly that does give you extensive choice. If they can leaver without disturbing others I dont care. If they expect 20 people to miss part of the game in order to let them go ahead in the queue to leave, then **** em. Hopefully it will be you.
  23. Exactly, or better still walk to the pub, have a beer and chat about the game to friends or other fans. By the time you leave not only will the stadium traffic cleared but also all the saturday afternoon shoppers and you'll get home in half the time.
  24. Stay home and avoid waiting for a beer in a busy pub. Dont have kids, they're always wanting to be driven somewhere. Never go an see a gig unless its **** and really unpopular.
  25. Or not go at all and avoid the traffic there as well and people thinking you're a ****. Double win.
