I think thats a very benign interpretation. You don't try and go over your 'line manager's head - ie Reed at the moment - by approaching board members directly in any organisation. That's why they wouldn't return his calls, it was unprofessional and inappropriate.

The report was that Lallana was phoning the board members individually to plead his case. That's totally different to seeking information or clarification through proper channels, and totally unprofessional
