  1. Spurs think we are overpaying. They're probably right. http://www.independent.co.uk/sport/football/transfers/tottenham-end-interest-in-leandro-damiao-but-step-up-pursuit-of-david-villa-with-plan-to-fund-move-for-barcelona-striker-by-selling-emmanuel-adebayor-8688417.html
  2. Maybe not on a contract but I'd certainly hire her for session work.
  3. Its the same with tyre treads. I don't know why people discard them, it would make the journey home much safer.
  4. Holepuncture seems a little ambivalent.
  5. Come come, not so street. I think we've all seen pics taken from your phone that Bearsy has been pm ing around.
  6. I did have you marked as an older gentleman Tokes, but this degree of archaic surprises me.
  7. This is circa no.35. Tough choice.
  8. Put 'spudders attractive italian girlfriends' into google images and this comes up no.1. Lardass.
  9. The big spike in tax as % of GDP is much more to do with a fall in GDP than increase in spending. You can argue that Brown's increase in government spend to around 41% from around 2001 onwards was wrong and maybe 1or 2% too high but until the 2007 bank collapse (which no-one foresaw) his growth in spending was supported by growth in GDP.
  10. It not as simple as that. One example, there are many permutations. Arsenal rate a player in La Liga and want to sign him, their maximum offer is £10m and £80,000pw . Saints offer £12m and £50,000pw, not because we are richer than them, but because for us its a marquee signing, for Arsenal, not. Player wants to go to Arsenal but selling club refuses, so players option is to stay on the contract he signed in Spain for £20,000pw or come to Saints. He signs but thinks he should be somewhere else.

    UK Holiday

How about the area around Barmouth in West Wales. Good beaches and right next door to Snowdonia National Park. Whether there is plenty to do obviously depends on what you like. Not much commercial stuff but lots of beaches, sailing, hills and walking etc.
  12. I'm not sure paying top money works for clubs like Saints. You just end up with a player who has been sold by his club because we offered most, but who feels he should be playing Champions league somewhere. Our best signings have been in the lower leagues when we were the big fish there, or players with a point to prove. I'd be happier signing up the Championship players of the season than an import deal driven by $$$.
  13. Somewhere between 35% and 39% has been pretty the much the normal range for the UK for decades though. Its only shot up as a percentage in the last few years due to the long and deep recession. Regardless of who is in power you can bet it will be back to c37% a few years after the country returns to trend growth (assuming it ever does).
  14. Is that really the best you can do? take one of the very few exceptions, Zimbabwe which is totally ****ed as everyone knows precisely because of corruption and taxes NOT being spent on public services and try and pretend that proves the rule? even adding a rofl for extra weight and gravitas. Desperate stuff Wes, desperate.
  15. Totally. The one in Hove is staffed by a bunch of surly, useless tossers whilst the one in Portslade has been fantastic and have always gone the extra mile to help. They are 1 mile apart.
  16. Picking up on Verbal's point, just scroll down the list below. Almost without exception (barring a few small island tax dodge havens) the countries you might actually want to live in have tax as a share of GDP of over 30%, the marginal countries have tax rates of 20-30% and the 'no way am am I bringing up my kids there' places have tax rates of under 10%. http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/List_of_countries_by_tax_revenue_as_percentage_of_GDP
  17. She used to be great at 18 hole games. Think she might have given up the sport now though since she suddenly came into a lot of money.
  18. I like Boris whilst Brand makes my skin crawl. Whilst policies play in part in choosing politicians, ability to relate to them and faith they aren't out to grab for their faction counts for more.
  19. Agree, its incredible that two nations want to claim Michael Flatley.
  20. Its an affliction, he thinks it makes him look smart. Everyone else is smart enough to know it makes him look a ****. Its a standoff.
  21. What proportion of genetic diseases do you think we could 'select out' and make extinct and what proportion are due to spontaneous mutation / poor copying etc?
  22. Like that with black shorts would be perfect.
  23. But I do think you missed the subtext to the question. Sure maybe this particular mitochondrial DNA technique doesn't have wider implications - but the fact of allowing manipulation of embryonic DNA to achieve a different kind of baby does.
  24. Would a poll unite or divide us? Thoughts?
  25. Thanks, I didn't know that. Does it not open up Pandora's box though? Once you have breached the principle of changing an embryos DNA to order for one situation it becomes easier to agree to do it for something else. What can start as a process designed to avoid medical issues can end up as a process positively selecting genes for looks, physique, intelligence etc.
